નીતિવચનો 13

1 ૧ જ્ઞાની દીકરો પોતાના પિતાની શિખામણ માને છે, પણ અડિયલ દીકરો ઠપકાને ગણકારતો જ નથી.

A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer listens not to rebuke.

2 ૨ માણસ પોતાના શબ્દોથી હિતકારક ફળ ભોગવે છે, પણ કપટીનો જીવ જુલમ વેઠશે.

A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth, but the soul of the treacherous, violence.

3 ૩ પોતાનું મોં સંભાળીને બોલનાર પોતાના જીવનું રક્ષણ કરે છે, પરંતુ જીભને છૂટી મૂકનાર વિનાશ નોતરે છે.

He who guards his mouth keeps his life. He who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 ૪ આળસુનો જીવ ઇચ્છા કરે છે, પણ કશું પામતો નથી, પણ ઉદ્યમી વ્યક્તિ પૂર્ણ રીતે સંતુષ્ટ હોય છે.

The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 ૫ સદાચારી માણસ જૂઠને ધિક્કારે છે, પણ દુષ્ટ માણસ અપમાન અને ફજેતીનો ભોગ બને છે.

A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.

6 ૬ નેકી ભલા માણસોનું રક્ષણ કરે છે; પણ દુષ્ટતા પાપીઓને ઉથલાવી નાખે છે,

Righteousness guards him who is upright in the way, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

7 ૭ કેટલાક કશું ન હોવા છતાં ધનવાન હોવાનો દંભ કરે છે અને કેટલાક એવા પણ છે કે જેઓ કંગાળ હોવા છતાં ધનવાન હોય છે.

There is he who makes himself rich, yet has nothing, and he who makes himself poor, yet has great wealth.

8 ૮ દ્રવ્યવાનના જીવનો બદલો તેનું દ્રવ્ય છે, પણ ગરીબ વ્યક્તિને ધમકી સાંભળવી પડતી નથી.

The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor hears no threatening.

9 ૯ નેકીવાનોનો પ્રકાશ આનંદ છે, પણ દુષ્ટનો દીવો હોલવી નાંખવામાં આવશે.

The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 ૧૦ અભિમાનથી તો કેવળ ઝઘડો જ ઉત્પન્ન થાય છે; પણ સારી સલાહ માનનારાઓ પાસે ડહાપણ છે.

Through pride a vain man causes contention, but wisdom is with the well-advised.

11 ૧૧ કુમાર્ગે મેળવેલી સંપત્તિ કદી ટકતી નથી. પણ મહેનતથી સંગ્રહ કરેલી સંપત્તિની વૃદ્ધિ થાય છે.

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished, but he who gathers by labor shall have increase.

12 ૧૨ આશાનું ફળ મળવામાં વિલંબ થતાં અંતઃકરણ ઝૂરે છે, પણ ઇચ્છાઓની પરિપૂર્ણતા જ જીવન છે.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

13 ૧૩ શિખામણને નકારનારનો નાશ થાય છે, પણ આજ્ઞાઓનો આદર કરનારને બદલો મળે છે.

He who despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 ૧૪ જ્ઞાનીનું શિક્ષણ જીવનનો ઝરો છે, જે તે વ્યક્તિને મૃત્યુના ફાંદામાંથી ઉગારી લે છે.

The law of a wise man is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 ૧૫ સારી સમજવાળાને કૃપા મળે છે, પણ કપટીનો માર્ગ ખરબચડો છે.

Good understanding gives favor, but the way of the transgressor is hard.

16 ૧૬ પ્રત્યેક ડાહ્યો માણસ ડહાપણથી નિર્ણય લે છે; પણ મૂર્ખ પોતાની મૂર્ખાઈ જાહેર કરે છે.

Every prudent man works with knowledge, but a fool flaunts folly.

17 ૧૭ દુષ્ટ સંદેશાવાહક મુશ્કેલીમાં સપડાઈ જાય છે, પણ વિશ્વાસુ સંદેશવાહક સમાધાન લાવે છે.

A wicked messenger falls into evil, but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 ૧૮ જે શિખામણનો ત્યાગ કરે છે તેને ગરીબી અને અપમાન પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે, પણ ઠપકાનો સ્વીકાર કરે છે તેને માન મળે છે.

Poverty and shame are to him who refuses correction, but he who regards reproof shall be honored.

19 ૧૯ ઇચ્છાની તૃપ્તિ આત્માને મીઠી લાગે છે, પણ દુષ્ટતાથી પાછા વળવું એ મૂર્ખોને આઘાતજનક લાગે છે.

The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 ૨૦ જો તું જ્ઞાની માણસોની સંગત કરશે, તો તું જ્ઞાની થશે. પણ જે મૂર્ખની સોબત કરે છે તેને નુકસાન થશે.

Walk with wise men, and thou shall be wise. But the companion of fools shall smart for it.

21 ૨૧ પાપીઓની પાછળ નુકસાન લાગેલું રહે છે, પણ જે સારા માણસો છે તેઓને હિતકારક બદલો મળશે.

Evil pursues sinners, but the righteous shall be recompensed with good.

22 ૨૨ સારો માણસ પોતાનાં સંતાનોનાં સંતાનોને માટે વારસો મૂકી જાય છે, પણ પાપીનું ધન નેકીવાનને સારુ ભરી મૂકવામાં આવે છે.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his son's sons, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

23 ૨૩ ગરીબોના ખેતરમાં ઘણું અનાજ ઊપજે છે, પણ અન્યાયના કારણથી નાશ પામનારા માણસો પણ છે.

Much food is in the tillage of the poor, but there is that is consumed because of injustice.

24 ૨૪ જે પોતાના બાળકને શિસ્તપાલનની કેળવણી માટે સોટી મારતો નથી તે પોતાના બાળકનો દુશ્મન છે; પણ તેના પર પ્રીતિ કરનાર તેને વેળાસર શિક્ષા કરે છે.

He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him chastens him promptly.

25 ૨૫ નેકીવાન પોતાને સંતોષ થતાં સુધી ખાય છે, પણ દુષ્ટનું પેટ હંમેશાં ભૂખ્યુંને ભૂખ્યું જ રહે છે.

A righteous man eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked shall want.
