માથ્થી 14
Just then Herod, the Tetrarch, heard of Jesus’ fame, and said to his courtiers.
2 ૨ તેમણે પોતાના ચાકરોને કહ્યું કે, “આ તો યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્મા કરનાર છે; તે મૃત્યુમાંથી સજીવન થયો છે, એ માટે એવાં પરાક્રમી કામો તેનાથી થાય છે.”
"This man is Johnthe Baptist; he is risen from the dead. That is why miraculous powers are working through him."
3 ૩ કેમ કે હેરોદે તેના ભાઈ ફિલિપની પત્ની હેરોદિયાને લીધે યોહાનને પકડ્યો હતો અને તેને બાંધીને જેલમાં નાખ્યો હતો.
For Herod had apprehended John, shackled him, and thrust him into prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
because Johnkept telling him, "It is not right for you to have her."
And although he wished to kill John, he feared the people, for they considered Johna prophet.
But when Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company,
and so pleased Herod that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked for.
So, prompted by her mother, the girl said, "Give me at once, upon a dish, the head of Johnthe Baptist."
9 ૯ હવે રાજા દિલગીર થયો, તોપણ પોતે સમ ખાધા હતા તેને લીધે તથા તેની સાથે જમવા બેઠેલાઓને લીધે, તેણે તે આપવાનો હુકમ કર્યો.
The king was displeased because of this, but because of his oaths and his guests he ordered it to be given her.
He sent and beheaded Johnin prison;
the head was brought on a dish, and given to the young girl, who took it to her mother.
12 ૧૨ ત્યારે તેના શિષ્યોએ પાસે આવીને તેનો મૃતદેહ ઉઠાવી લઈ જઈને તેને દફનાવ્યો અને જઈને ઈસુને ખબર આપી.
Then John’s disciples went and removed his body, and came and told Jesus.
13 ૧૩ ત્યારે ઈસુ એ સાંભળીને ત્યાંથી હોડીમાં એકાંત જગ્યાએ ગયા. લોકો તે સાંભળીને નગરોમાંથી પગરસ્તે તેમની પાછળ ગયા.
When Jesus heard it he went away privately by boat to a lonely spot; but the crowds heard about it, and followed him on foot from the cities.
14 ૧૪ ઈસુએ નીકળીને ઘણાં લોકોને જોયા, ત્યારે તેઓ પર તેમને અનુકંપા આવી; અને તેમણે તેઓમાંનાં માંદાઓને સાજાં કર્યા.
So when he landed he saw a great multitude, and felt compassion for them, and healed their sick.
15 ૧૫ સાંજ પડી ત્યારે તેમના શિષ્યોએ તેમની પાસે આવીને કહ્યું કે, “આ જગ્યા ઉજ્જડ છે, હવે સમય થઈ ગયો છે, માટે લોકોને વિદાય કરો કે તેઓ આસપાસનાં પ્રદેશમાં તથા ગામોમાં જઈને પોતાને સારુ ખાવાનું વેચાતું લે.”
As twilight fell, his disciples came to him and said. "This is a lonely spot, and the day is far spent; send the crowds away, so that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food."
"They need not go away," said Jesus, "do you, yourselves, give them something to eat."
"We have nothing here," they replied, "except five loaves and two fishes."
"Bring them here to me," said Jesus.
19 ૧૯ પછી તેમણે લોકોને ઘાસ પર બેસવાની આજ્ઞા આપી. અને તે પાંચ રોટલી તથા બે માછલી લઈ સ્વર્ગ તરફ જોઈને આશીર્વાદ માગ્યો અને રોટલી ભાંગીને શિષ્યોને આપી અને શિષ્યોએ લોકોને આપી.
Then he told the people to sit down on the grass, and after taking the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven and blessed them. Then he broke the loaves and handed them to the disciples, and the disciples handed them to the crowds.
And they all ate and were fully satisfied, and they took up of the fragments that remained, twelve basketfuls.
Those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 ૨૨ પછી તરત તેમણે શિષ્યોને આગ્રહથી હોડીમાં બેસાડ્યા અને તેઓને પોતાની આગળ પેલે પાર મોકલ્યા અને તેણે પોતે લોકોને વિદાય કર્યા.
Then he made his disciples get aboard the boat and precede him to the other side, while he sent away the crowds.
23 ૨૩ લોકોને વિદાય કર્યા પછી, ઈસુ પ્રાર્થના કરવાને પહાડ પર એકાંતમાં ગયા અને સાંજ પડી ત્યારે ઈસુ ત્યાં એકલા હતા.
After he had sent the crowds away, he went up into the mountain alone, to pray. When night came he was there alone.
But the boat was already a long way from shore, buffeted by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
And in the fourth watch of the night he came toward them, walking upon the sea,
26 ૨૬ શિષ્યોએ તેમને સમુદ્ર પર ચાલતા જોયા, ત્યારે તેઓએ ગભરાઈને કહ્યું, “એ તો કોઈ ભૂત છે” અને બીકથી તેઓએ બૂમ પાડી.
but when the disciples saw him walking upon the sea, they were terrified. "It is a phantom," they said, and cried out for fear.
But at once Jesus spoke to them, "Courage," he said, "it is I. Fear not."
28 ૨૮ ત્યારે પિતરે તેમને ઉત્તર આપતાં કહ્યું કે, “પ્રભુ, એ જો તમે હો, તો મને આજ્ઞા આપો કે હું પાણી પર ચાલીને તમારી પાસે આવું.”
Peter answered, "Master, if it is you, bid me come to you upon the water."
"Come," said Jesus. Then Peter got down from the boat and walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30 ૩૦ પણ પવનને જોઈને તે ગભરાયો અને ડૂબવા લાગ્યો, તેથી તેણે બૂમ પાડતાં કહ્યું કે, “ઓ પ્રભુ, મને બચાવો.”
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and as he began to sink, he cried out, "Master, save me!"
31 ૩૧ ઈસુએ તરત જ હાથ લાંબો કરીને તેને પકડી લીધો અને તેને કહ્યું કે, “અરે અલ્પવિશ્વાસી, તેં શંકા કેમ કરી?”
At once Jesus stretched out his hand and caught hold of him, saying to him. "O little faith! What made you doubt?"
Then as they climbed into the boat the wind grew weary,
and the men in the boat fell upon their knees before him, saying, "You are, indeed, the Son of God."
Then they crossed over and came to land at Gennesaret;
35 ૩૫ જયારે તે જગ્યાનાં લોકોએ તેમને ઓળખ્યા, ત્યારે તેઓએ તે આખા દેશમાં ચોતરફ માણસોને મોકલીને બધા માંદાઓને તેમની પાસે લાવ્યા.
and when the men of that country recognized him, they sent into all the country round about, and brought to him all the sick,
36 ૩૬ તેઓએ ઈસુને વિનંતી કરી કે ‘કેવળ તમારાં વસ્ત્રોની કોરને જ તમે અમને અડકવા દો;’ અને જેટલાં અડક્યા તેટલાં સાજાં થયા.
and kept begging him to let them touch the tassel of his cloak - and all who touched were completely cured.
