યહોશુઆ 8
1 ૧ અને યહોવાહે યહોશુઆને કહ્યું, “બીશ નહિ, હિંમત હારીશ નહિ. તારી સાથે સર્વ લડવૈયાઓને લે અને આય જા. જો, મેં આયનો રાજા, તેના લોક, તેનું નગર અને તેનો દેશ તારા હાથમાં આપ્યાં છે.
Then said Yahweh unto Joshua—Do not fear nor be dismayed, take with thee all the army, and arise, go up to Ai, —see! I have given into thy hand, the king of Ai and his people, and his city, and his land;
2 ૨ જેમ તેં યરીખો અને તેના રાજાને કર્યું તેમ આયને અને તેના રાજાને કર, તેનો માલ અને પશુઓ તમારા પોતાને માટે લૂંટી લેજો. તું નગરની પાછળ માણસોને છુપાવી રાખજે.”
so shalt thou do unto Ai and to her king, as thou didst unto Jericho unto her king, save only, the spoil thereof and the cattle thereof, shall ye take as your own prey, —set thee an ambush for the city, behind it.
3 ૩ તેથી યહોશુઆ આય પર ચઢાઈ કરવા માટે તૈયાર થયો. સર્વ લડવૈયાને સાથે લીધાં. યહોશુઆએ ત્રીસ હજાર માણસોને પસંદ કર્યા, તેઓ બળવાન તથા હિંમતવાન પુરુષો હતા. તેણે તેઓને રાત્રે બહાર મોકલ્યા.
So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai, —and Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valour, and sent them forth by night.
4 ૪ તેઓને આજ્ઞા કરી કે, “જુઓ, નગર જીતી લેવા માટે તમે તેની પાછળ સંતાઈ રહેજો. નગરથી બહુ દૂર જશો નહિ, પણ તમે સર્વ તૈયાર રહેજો.
And he commanded them, saying—See! ye, shall be lying in ambush against the city, behind the city, do not go very far from the city, —so shall ye all be ready.
5 ૫ હું ને મારી સાથેના સર્વ માણસો નગર પાસે પહોંચીશું. અને જયારે તેઓ અમારા પર હુમલો કરવાને બહાર આવશે ત્યારે પહેલાંની જેમ અમે તેઓની આગળથી નાસીશું.
But, I, and all the people who are with me, will draw near unto the city, —and it shall be, when they come out to meet us, as at the first, then will we flee before them;
6 ૬ તેઓ અમારી પાછળ બહાર આવશે. પછી અમે તેઓને નગરથી દૂર ખેંચી જઈશું. તેઓ માનશે કે, ‘પહેલાંની જેમ તેઓ આપણાથી દૂર ભાગી રહ્યા છે.’ માટે અમે તેઓથી દૂર નાસીશું.
so will they come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, Fleeing before us, as at the first! therefore will we flee before them.
7 ૭ પછી તમે તમારી સંતાવાની જગ્યાએથી ઊઠીને બહાર નીકળી આવજો અને તમે નગરને કબજે કરી લેજો. યહોવાહ તમારા પ્રભુ નગરને તમારા હાથમાં આપશે.
Then, ye, shall rise up out of the ambush, and take possession of the city, —and Yahweh your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 ૮ નગર કબજે કર્યા પછી તમારે નગરને સળગાવી દેવું. યહોવાહનાં વચન પ્રમાણે તમારે કરવું. સાંભળો, મેં તમને આ આજ્ઞા આપી છે.”
And it shall be, when ye have seized the city, then shall ye burn the city with fire, according to the word of Yahweh, shall ye do, —see! I have commanded you.
9 ૯ યહોશુઆએ તેઓને બહાર મોકલ્યા અને તેઓ હુમલો કરવાની જગ્યાએ ગયા. તેઓ બેથેલ તથા આય વચ્ચે એટલે કે પશ્ચિમ તરફ આયની વચ્ચે સંતાયા. પણ તે રાતે યહોશુઆ લોકોની વચ્ચે રહ્યો.
So Joshua sent them forth, and they went into ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west of Ai, —but Joshua lodged that night in the midst of the people.
10 ૧૦ યહોશુઆ સવારે વહેલો ઊઠયો અને તેણે સૈનિકોને તૈયાર કર્યા. યહોશુઆ અને ઇઝરાયલના વડીલોએ આયના લોકો પર હુમલો કર્યો.
And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and mustered the people, —and went up—he and the elders of Israel, before the people, to Ai.
11 ૧૧ સર્વ લડવૈયા પુરુષો કે જે તેની સાથે હતા તેઓ ઉપર ગયા અને નગર પાસે પહોંચ્યા. તેઓએ નગરની નજીક જઈને આયની ઉત્તર બાજુએ છાવણી કરી. ત્યાં આય અને તેઓની વચ્ચે ખીણ હતી.
And, all the people of war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came in, right before the city, —and pitched on the north of Ai, with, a valley, between them and Ai.
12 ૧૨ તેણે આશરે પાંચ હજાર પુરુષોને પસંદ કરીને બેથેલ તથા આય નગરની વચ્ચે પશ્ચિમ બાજુએ છાપો મારવા માટે તેઓને ગોઠવ્યા.
And he took about five thousand men, —and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city.
13 ૧૩ તેઓએ સર્વ સૈનિકોની આ પ્રમાણે વ્યૂહરચના કરી. મુખ્ય સૈન્ય નગરની ઉત્તરે અને પાછળના સૈનિકો નગરની પશ્ચિમ બાજુએ હતા. યહોશુઆએ તે રાત ખીણમાં વિતાવી.
And, when the people had set all the host that was on the north of the city, with the rear thereof on the west of the city, then went Joshua, during the night, into the midst of the valley.
14 ૧૪ જયારે આયના રાજાએ તે જોયું ત્યારે એમ બન્યું કે, તે અને તેના સૈનિકો વહેલા ઊઠયા અને યર્દન નદીની ખીણ તરફ ઇઝરાયલ પર હુમલો કરવાને ધસી આવ્યા. તેને ખબર ન હતી કે છાપો મારનારાઓ પાછળથી હુમલો કરવાને માટે નગરમાં લાગ જોઈ રહ્યા છે.
And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted, and rose up early, and the men of the city came out to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people, at an appointed time, before the waste plain, —he not knowing that there was an ambush lying in wait for him, behind the city.
So then Joshua and all Israel suffered themselves to be smitten before them, —and fled, by the way of the wilderness;
16 ૧૬ તેઓની પાછળ પડવા માટે જે બધા લોકો નગરમાં રહેતા હતા તેઓને બોલાવીને એકઠા કરવામાં આવ્યા. તેઓ યહોશુઆની પાછળ ગયા અને તેઓને નગરથી દૂર લઈ જવામાં આવ્યા.
and all the people who were in the city were called out to pursue them, —and they pursued Joshua, and so were drawn out away from the city.
17 ૧૭ હવે આય અને બેથેલમાં ઇઝરાયલની પાછળ બહાર ગયો ન હોય એવો કોઈ પુરુષ રહ્યો ન હતો. નગરને નિરાશ્રિત મૂકીને તથા તેના દરવાજા ખુલ્લાં મૂકીને તેઓ ઇઝરાયલની પાછળ પડયા.
And there remained not a man, in Ai or Bethel, who had not gone out after Israel, —and they left the city, open, and pursued Israel.
18 ૧૮ યહોવાહે યહોશુઆને કહ્યું, “તારા હાથમાંનો ભાલો આય તરફ લાંબો કર. કેમ કે હું આયને તારા હાથમાં સોંપીશ.” યહોશુઆએ પોતાના હાથમાં જે ભાલો હતો તે નગર તરફ લાંબો કર્યો.
Then said Yahweh unto Joshua—Stretch out with the javelin which is in thy hand, towards Ai, for, into thy hand, will I deliver it. So Joshua stretched out with the javelin which was in his hand, towards the city.
19 ૧૯ જયારે તેણે પોતાનો હાથ લાંબો કર્યો ત્યારે સંતાઈ રહેલા સૈનિકો ઝડપથી તેમની જગ્યાએથી બહાર ધસી આવ્યા. તેઓએ દોડીને નગરમાં પ્રવેશ કર્યો અને તેને કબજે કર્યું. તેઓએ ઝડપથી નગરને આગ લગાડી.
And, the ambush, rose up quickly, out of their place, and ran, when he stretched out his hand, and entered the city, and captured it, —and hasted, and set the city on fire.
20 ૨૦ આયના માણસો પાછા વળ્યા. અને તેઓએ જોયું કે નગરનો ધુમાડો આકાશ પર ચઢતો હતો. તેઓને માટે બચવાનો કોઈ માર્ગ રહ્યો નહિ. કેમ કે જે સૈનિકો અરણ્ય તરફ નાસી ગયા હતા તેઓ હવે તેમની પાછળ પડનારાઓનો સામનો કરવા પાછા આવ્યા હતા.
And the men of Ai turned behind them, and looked, and lo! the smoke of the city had risen up towards the heavens, and there was in them no strength, to flee this way or that way, —moreover, the people that were fleeing to the wilderness, turned back upon the pursuers.
21 ૨૧ જયારે યહોશુઆએ અને સર્વ ઇઝરાયલે જોયું કે, હુમલો કરનાર ટુકડીઓએ નગરને કબજે કરીને સળગાવ્યું છે ત્યારે તેઓ પાછા આવ્યા અને તેઓએ આયના માણસોને મારી નાખ્યાં.
Yea, when, Joshua and all Israel, saw that the ambush had captured the city, and that the smoke of the city had risen up, then returned they, and smote the men of Ai.
22 ૨૨ ઇઝરાયલના બીજા સૈનિકો જેઓ નગરમાં હતા તેઓ પણ હુમલો કરવાને બહાર નીકળી આવ્યા. તેથી આયના માણસો, કેટલાક આ બાજુ અને કેટલાક પેલી બાજુ એમ ઇઝરાયલની સેના વચ્ચે સપડાયા. ઇઝરાયલે તેમની પર હુમલો કર્યો અને તેઓમાંના કોઈને પણ બચી કે નાસી જવા દીધા નહિ.
And, the others, came forth out of the city to meet them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side, —and they smote them, until there was left them none to remain or to escape.
And, the king of Ai, they caught alive, —and brought him near unto Joshua.
24 ૨૪ એમ થયું કે, અરણ્યની નજીકની જગ્યામાં જ્યાં તેઓ તેમની પાછળ પડયા હતા ત્યાં ઇઝરાયલીઓએ પાછા ફરીને તેઓમાંના સર્વને, એટલે, આયના સઘળાં રહેવાસીઓને મારી નાખ્યા. તેઓનો તલવારની ધારથી નાશ કર્યો.
And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness whither they had pursued them, and all of them had fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, then all Israel returned to Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
And so it was, that all who fell that day, both of men and of women, were twelve thousand, —all people of Ai.
26 ૨૬ યહોશુઆએ જ્યાં સુધી આયના સર્વ લોકોનો સંપૂર્ણ નાશ ન થયો ત્યાં સુધી જે હાથથી તેણે ભાલો લાંબો કરી રાખ્યો હતો, તેને પાછો ખેંચી લીધો નહિ.
Now, Joshua, drew not back his hand which he had stretched out with the javelin, —until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 ૨૭ જે આજ્ઞા યહોવાહે યહોશુઆને આપી હતી, તે પ્રમાણે માત્ર ઇઝરાયલીઓએ પોતાના માટે નગરનાં પશુઓ અને માલ મિલકતની લૂંટ કરી.
Nevertheless, the cattle and the spoil of that city, Israel took as their own prey, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he commanded Joshua.
28 ૨૮ અને યહોશુઆએ આયને બાળી નાખીને તેનો સદાને માટે વિનાશનો ઢગ કરી દીધો. તે સ્થાન આજ દિવસ સુધી વેરાન રહેલું છે.
So then Joshua burned Ai, —and made of it an age-abiding heap—a desolation, [as it remaineth] until this day.
29 ૨૯ તેણે આયના રાજાને સાંજ સુધી ઝાડ પર લટકાવી રાખ્યો. જયારે સૂર્ય આથમતો હતો ત્યારે યહોશુઆએ તેઓને આજ્ઞા આપી. તેથી તેઓ રાજાનું શબ ઝાડ ઉપરથી ઉતારી લાવ્યા અને નગરના દરવાજાની આગળ નાખ્યું. તેના ઉપર તેઓએ પથ્થરનો મોટો ઢગલો કર્યો. તે આજ દિવસ સુધી છે.
And, the king of Ai, hanged he on a tree until eventide, —but, at the going in of the sun, Joshua gave command and they took down his dead body from the tree, and cast it in at the opening of the gate of the city, and raised up over it a great heap of stones—[which remaineth] until this day.
Than, built Joshua, an altar, unto Yahweh, God of Israel, —in Mount Ebal:
31 ૩૧ જેમ યહોવાહનાં સેવક મૂસાએ ઇઝરાયલના લોકોને આજ્ઞા આપી, જેમ મૂસાના નિયમશાસ્ત્ર લખેલું છે તે પ્રમાણે, “તે પથ્થરથી કોતરેલી નહિ એવી અને જેના પર કોઈએ કદી લોખંડનું સાધન ચલાવ્યું ના હોય એવી વેદી હતી.” અને તેના પર તેણે યહોવાહને સારુ દહનીયાર્પણ અને શાંત્યર્પણના યજ્ઞ કર્યા.
as Moses, the servant of Yahweh, commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the scroll of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, whereon had not been wielded any tool of iron, —and they caused to go up thereon, ascending-sacrifices unto Yahweh, and sacrificed peace-offerings.
Then wrote he there, upon the stones, a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the sons of Israel.
33 ૩૩ અને સર્વ ઇઝરાયલ, તેઓના વડીલો, અધિકારીઓ, અને તેઓના ન્યાયાધીશો, પરદેશી તેમ જ ત્યાંના વતનીઓ પણ, લેવીઓ અને યાજકો જેમણે યહોવાહનો કરારકોશ ઊંચક્યો હતો તે કોશની આગળ બન્ને બાજુ ઊભા રહ્યા, તેઓમાંના અડધા ગરીઝીમ પર્વતની સામે; અને અડધા એબાલ પર્વતની સામે યહોવાહનાં સેવક મૂસાએ અગાઉ ઇઝરાયલ લોકોને આશીર્વાદ આપવા તેઓને આજ્ઞા આપી હતી તે પ્રમાણે ઊભા રહ્યા.
And, all Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, were standing on this side and on that side of the ark, before the priests the Levites, who were bearing the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, as well the sojourner as the home-born, half of them over against Mount Gerizim, and half of them over against Mount Ebal, —as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded to bless the sons of Israel, first of all.
34 ૩૪ ત્યાર પછી યહોશુઆએ નિયમનાં સર્વ વચનો, આશીર્વાદો અને શાપો, જે નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાં લખેલાં હતાં, તે સર્વ વાંચી સંભળાવ્યાં.
And, after that, read he all the words of the law, the blessing and the cursing, —according to all that was written in the scroll of the law.
35 ૩૫ ઇઝરાયલ આગળ તથા સ્ત્રીઓ, નાના બાળકો તથા પરદેશીઓ જે તેઓની મધ્યે રહેતા હતા તેઓની સભા સમક્ષ મૂસાએ ફરમાવેલી આજ્ઞાઓમાંથી એક પણ એવી નહિ હોય કે જે યહોશુઆએ તેઓની સમક્ષ વાંચી સંભળાવી ના હોય.
Them was not a word of all that Moses commanded, —which Joshua read not before all the convocation of Israel, with the women and the little ones, and the sojourner who was going on in their midst.
