અયૂબ 9

1 ૧ ત્યારે અયૂબે ઉત્તર આપ્યો અને કહ્યું કે,

Then Job answered and said,

2 ૨ હા, “હું જાણું છું કે એમ જ છે. પરંતુ માણસ ઈશ્વરની આગળ કેવી રીતે ન્યાયી ઠરે?

I know of a truth that it is so: for how shall a mortal man be just before the Lord?

3 ૩ જો તે તેમની સાથે દલીલ કરવાને ઇચ્છે, તો હજાર પ્રશ્રનોમાંથી એકનો પણ જવાબ તે તેમને આપી શકશે નહિ.

For if he would enter into judgment with him, [God] would not listen to him, so that he should answer to one of his charges of a thousand.

4 ૪ ઈશ્વર જ્ઞાની તથા પરાક્રમી છે, તેમની સામે થઈને કોણ આબાદાની પામ્યો છે?

For he is wise in mind, and mighty, and great: who has hardened himself against him and endured?

5 ૫ તે પર્વતોને ખસેડે છે અને જ્યારે તે પોતાના કોપથી તેમને ઊંધા વાળે છે. ત્યારે તેઓને તેની ખબર પડતી નથી.

Who wears out the mountains, and [men] know it not: who overturns them in anger.

6 ૬ તે પૃથ્વીને હલાવીને પોતાના સ્થળેથી ખસેડે છે. અને તેના સ્થંભો કંપે છે.

Who shakes the [earth] under heaven from its foundations, and its pillars totter.

7 ૭ તે એ જ ઈશ્વર છે જે સૂર્યને આજ્ઞા કરે છે અને તે ઊગતો નથી, અને જે તારાઓને ઢાંકી દે છે.

Who commands the sun, and it rises not; and he seals up the stars.

8 ૮ તેમણે એકલે હાથે આકાશને વિસ્તાર્યું છે, અને સમુદ્રના મોજા પર ચાલે છે.

Who alone has stretched out the heavens, and walks on the sea as on firm ground.

9 ૯ જેમણે સપ્તર્ષિ, મૃગશીર્ષ તથા કૃત્તિકા, અને દક્ષિણનાં નક્ષત્રમંડળ સર્જ્યા છે.

Who makes Pleias, and Hesperus, and Arcturus, and the chambers of the south.

10 ૧૦ ઈશ્વર અદ્દભુત અને મહાન કાર્યોના કર્તા છે. હા, અગણિત ચમત્કારી કાર્યોના કર્તા છે.

Who does great and unsearchable things; glorious also and excellent things, innumerable.

11 ૧૧ જુઓ, તે મારી બાજુમાંથી પસાર થાય છે, પણ હું તેમને જોઈ શકતો નથી; તે આગળ ચાલ્યા જાય છે, પણ હું તેમને જોઈ શકતો નથી.

If ever he should go beyond me, I shall not see him: if he should pass by me, neither thus have I known [it].

12 ૧૨ તે પકડી લે તો તેમને કોણ રોકી શકે? તેમને કોણ પૂછી શકે કે, ‘તમે શું કરો છો?’

If he would take away, who shall turn him back? or who shall say to him, What have you done?

13 ૧૩ ઈશ્વર તેમનો કોપ પાછો ખેંચી નહિ લેશે; અભિમાનીઓને સહાય કરનારાઓ તેની આગળ નમી પડે છે.

For [if] he has turned away [his] anger, the whales under heaven have stooped under him.

14 ૧૪ ત્યારે તેમને ઉત્તર આપવાને, તથા તેમની સાથે વાદવિવાદ કરવાને યોગ્ય શબ્દ ચૂંટી કાઢવાને હું કેટલો બધો અશક્ત છું?

Oh then that he would listen to me, or judge my cause.

15 ૧૫ જો હું ન્યાયી હોત છતાં હું તેમને જવાબ આપી ન શકત; હું મારા ન્યાયાધીશ પાસે કાલાવાલા કરત.

For though I be righteous, he will not listen to me: I will entreat his judgment.

16 ૧૬ જો મેં તેમને બોલાવ્યા હોત અને તેમણે મને ઉત્તર આપ્યો હોત, તોપણ મને ખાતરી છે કે તે મારું સાંભળશે નહિ.

And if I should call and he should not listen, I can’t believe that he has listened to my voice.

17 ૧૭ તે મને કચરી નાખવા તોફાન મોકલશે. કારણ વગર તે મને વધારે ઘાયલ કરશે.

Let him not crush me with a dark storm: but he has made by bruises many without cause.

18 ૧૮ તે મને શ્વાસ લેવા દેતા નથી, પણ મને મુશ્કેલીઓથી ભરપૂર કરે છે.

For he suffers me not to take breath, but he has filled me with bitterness.

19 ૧૯ જો આપણે બળ વિષે કહીએ કે, શા માટે તે બળવાન છે! અને જો ન્યાય વિષે બોલીએ ‘તો તે કહે છે, કે કોણ મને પ્રશ્ન પૂછી શકે?’

For indeed he is strong in power: who then shall resist his judgment?

20 ૨૦ જો હું નિર્દોષ હોઉં, તોપણ મારે પોતાને મુખે હું દોષિત ઠરીશ; જો હું સંપૂર્ણ હોઉં, તોપણ તે મને ભ્રષ્ટ ઠરાવશે.

For though I should seem righteous, my mouth will be profane: and though I should seem blameless, I shall be proved perverse.

21 ૨૧ હું સંપૂર્ણ છું, પણ મારી પોતાની પરવા કરતો નથી હું મારા જીવનને ધિક્કારું છું.

For even if I have sinned, I know it not [in] my soul: but my life is taken away.

22 ૨૨ પરંતુ દરેક વસ્તુ સરખી જ છે. તેથી હું કહું છું કે તે જેમ દુષ્ટનો તેમ સંપૂર્ણનો પણ નાશ કરે છે.

Therefore I said, Wrath slays the great and mighty man.

23 ૨૩ જો ફટકાથી તત્કાળ મોત નીપજે, તો નિર્દોષની નિરાશાની તે હાંસી કરશે.

For the worthless die, but the righteous are laughed to scorn.

24 ૨૪ પૃથ્વી દુષ્ટને સ્વાધીન કરાયેલી છે. ઈશ્વર તેઓના ન્યાયાધીશોના મુખ ઢાંકે છે. જો તે કૃત્ય તેઓનું ન હોય તો પછી બીજું કોણ કરે છે?

For they are delivered into the hands of the unrighteous [man]: he covers the faces of the judges [of the earth]: but if it be not he, who is it?

25 ૨૫ મારા દિવસો એક દોડવીર કરતાં પણ વધારે ઝડપી છે. મારા દિવસો વેગે વહી રહ્યા છે અને તેમા કંઈ હિત નથી.

But my life is swifter than a post: [my days] have fled away, and they knew it not.

26 ૨૬ તેઓ ઝડપથી પસાર થતા કાગળના વહાણની જેમ, તથા પોતાના શિકાર પર તૂટી પડતા ગરુડની જેમ ચાલ્યા જાય છે.

Or again, is there a trace of [their] path [left] by ships? or is there one of the flying eagle as it seeks [its] prey?

27 ૨૭ જો હું એમ કહું કે ‘હું મારા દુ: ખ વિષે ભૂલી જઈશ. હું મારો ઉદાસ ચહેરો દૂર કરીને હસમુખો ચહેરો ધારણ કરીશ.

And if I should say, I will forget to speak, I will bow down my face and groan;

28 ૨૮ હું મારી સઘળી વ્યથા વિષે ડરું છું. હું જાણું છું કે તમે મને નિર્દોષ નહિ ગણો.

I quake in all my limbs, for I know that you will not leave me alone [as] innocent.

29 ૨૯ હું દોષિત જ ઠરવાનો છું; તો હું શા માટે ફોકટ શ્રમ કરું છું?

But since I am ungodly, why have I not died?

30 ૩૦ જો હું બરફના પાણીથી મારું શરીર ધોઉં અને મારા હાથ ગમે તેટલા ચોખ્ખા કરું,

For if I should wash myself with snow, and purge myself with pure hands,

31 ૩૧ તોપણ ઈશ્વર મને ખાઈમાં નાખી દેશે, અને મારાં પોતાનાં જ વસ્ત્રો મને કંટાળો આપશે.

you had thoroughly plunged me in filth, and my garment had abhorred me.

32 ૩૨ કેમ કે તે મારા જેવા માણસ નથી કે હું તેમને ઉત્તર આપું, કે, અમે તેના ન્યાયાસન આગળ વાદીપ્રતિવાદી થઈએ.

For you are not man like me, with whom I could contend, that we might come together to judgment.

33 ૩૩ અમારી વચ્ચે કોઈ મધ્યસ્થ નથી કે, જે અમારા બન્ને ઉપર પોતાનો હાથ મૂકે.

Would that [he] our mediator were [present], and a reprover, and one who should hear [the cause] between both.

34 ૩૪ જો ઈશ્વર પોતાની સોટી મારા પરથી લઈ લે અને તે મને ડરાવે નહિ.

Let him remove [his] rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

35 ૩૫ તો હું તેમનો ડર રાખ્યા વગર બોલું. પણ જેમ હમણાં છે તેમ, હું તે કરી શકું નહિ.

so shall I not be afraid, but I will speak: for I am not thus conscious [of guilt].
