1 ૧ યહૂદિયાના રાજા યહોયાકીમના શાસનના ત્રીજા વર્ષે બાબિલના રાજા નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે યરુશાલેમ આવીને તેની ચારેબાજુ ઘેરો ઘાલ્યો.

2 ૨ પ્રભુએ યહૂદિયાના રાજા યહોયાકીમને, ઈશ્વરના સભાસ્થાનનાં કેટલાંક પાત્રો સહિત નબૂખાદનેસ્સારના હાથમાં સોંપ્યો. તે તેને શિનઆર દેશમાં, તેના દેવના મંદિરમાં લાવ્યો. તેણે તે પાત્રો પોતાના દેવના મંદિરના ભંડારમાં મૂકી દીધાં.

3 ૩ રાજાએ પોતાના મુખ્ય અધિકારી આસ્પનાઝને કહ્યું, “તારે કેટલાક રાજવંશી તથા અમીર કુટુંબોના ઇઝરાયલી જુવાનોને લાવવા.
and to say [the] king to/for Ashpenaz chief eunuch his to/for to come (in): bring from son: descendant/people Israel and from seed: children [the] kingship and from [the] noble
4 ૪ એ જુવાનોમાં કશી ખોડખાંપણ ન હોય, તેઓ ઉણપ વગરનાં, દેખાવમાં મનોહર, સર્વ બાબતમાં ડહાપણ, વિદ્યાપારંગત, વિજ્ઞાનમાં પ્રવીણ, રાજાના મહેલમાં રહેવાને લાયક હોય. તેઓને તારે ખાલદીઓની ભાષા તથા વિદ્યા શીખવવી.

5 ૫ રાજાએ તેઓને માટે પોતાની વાનગીઓમાંથી તથા પીવાના દ્રાક્ષારસમાંથી તેઓને માટે રોજનો હિસ્સો ઠરાવી આપ્યો. ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી તેઓનું પોષણ કરાય અને તે પછી, તેઓ રાજા સમક્ષ હાજર થાય, એવો નિર્ણય કરાયો.

7 ૭ મુખ્ય ખોજાએ તેઓને નામ આપ્યાં: તેણે દાનિયેલનું નામ બેલ્ટશાસ્સાર, હનાન્યાનું નામ શાદ્રાખ, મીશાએલનું નામ મેશાખ તથા અઝાર્યાનું નામ અબેદ-નગો પાડ્યાં.
and to set: name to/for them ruler [the] eunuch name and to set: name to/for Daniel Belteshazzar and to/for Hananiah Shadrach and to/for Mishael Meshach and to/for Azariah Abednego Abednego
8 ૮ દાનિયેલે પોતાના મનમાં નક્કી કર્યું કે, તે રાજાના ભોજનથી તથા જે દ્રાક્ષારસ તે પીએ છે તેનાથી પોતાને ભ્રષ્ટ કરશે નહિ. તેથી તેણે મુખ્ય ખોજા પાસે પોતાને ભ્રષ્ટ ન કરવાની પરવાનગી માગી.
and to set: make Daniel upon heart his which not to defile in/on/with choice [the] king and in/on/with wine feast his and to seek from ruler [the] eunuch which not to defile
and to give: give [the] God [obj] Daniel to/for kindness and to/for compassion to/for face of ruler [the] eunuch
10 ૧૦ મુખ્ય ખોજાએ દાનિયેલને કહ્યું, “મને મારા માલિક રાજાની બીક લાગે છે. તેમણે તમારે શું ખાવું તથા શું પીવું તે નક્કી કરી આપ્યું છે. શા માટે તે તને તારી ઉંમરના બીજા જુવાનોના કરતાં કદરૂપો જુએ? જો એવું થાય તો રાજા સમક્ષ મારું શિર જોખમમાં મુકાય.”

11 ૧૧ ત્યારે જે કારભારીને મુખ્ય ખોજાએ દાનિયેલ, હનાન્યા, મીશાએલ તથા અઝાર્યાની ઉપર નીમ્યો હતો તેને દાનિયેલે કહ્યું,
and to say Daniel to(wards) [the] `steward` which to count ruler [the] eunuch upon Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah
12 ૧૨ “કૃપા કરીને, તારા દાસોની દસ દિવસ પરીક્ષા કર. અમને ખાવાને માટે ફક્ત શાકભાજી તથા પીવાને માટે પાણી આપજો.
to test please [obj] servant/slave your day ten and to give: give to/for us from [the] vegetable and to eat and water and to drink
13 ૧૩ પછી જે યુવાનો રાજાની ઠરાવેલી વાનગીઓ ખાય છે તેમના દેખાવ અને અમારો દેખાવની સરખામણી કરજો, પછી તમે જે પ્રમાણે જુઓ તે પ્રમાણે તારા દાસો સાથે વર્તજો.”

and to hear: hear to/for them to/for word: thing [the] this and to test them day ten
15 ૧૫ દસમા દિવસને અંતે જે જુવાનો રાજાની વાનગીઓ ખાતા હતા તેઓના કરતાં આ જુવાનો વધારે સુંદર તથા વધારે હૃષ્ટપૃષ્ટ દેખાયા.

17 ૧૭ આ ચાર જુવાનોને ઈશ્વરે સર્વ વિદ્યામાં તથા ડહાપણમાં કૌશલ્ય આપ્યું. દાનિયેલ સર્વ સંદર્શનો તથા સ્વપ્નોનો મર્મ સમજતો હતો.

18 ૧૮ તેઓને પોતાની હજૂરમાં લાવવાને માટે રાજાએ જે સમય ઠરાવ્યો હતો તે સમય પૂરો થયો ત્યારે મુખ્ય ખોજો તેઓને નબૂખાદનેસ્સારની આગળ લાવ્યો.

19 ૧૯ રાજાએ તેઓની સાથે વાતચીત કરી તો સર્વમાં દાનિયેલ, હનાન્યા, મીશાએલ તથા અઝાર્યાના જેવા બીજા કોઈ માલૂમ પડ્યા નહિ. તેઓ રાજાની હજૂરમાં તેની સેવા કરવા માટે ઊભા રહ્યા.
and to speak: speak with them [the] king and not to find from all their like/as Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah and to stand: stand to/for face: before [the] king
20 ૨૦ ડહાપણ તથા સમજની દરેક બાબતો વિષે રાજાએ તેઓને જે પૂછ્યું તે બધામાં તેઓ રાજ્યના બધા જાદુગરો તથા મેલીવિદ્યા કરતા દસગણા શ્રેષ્ઠ માલૂમ પડ્યા.
and all word: thing wisdom understanding which to seek from them [the] king and to find them ten hand: times upon all [the] magician [the] enchanter which in/on/with all royalty his
and to be Daniel till year one to/for Cyrus [the] king
