પિતરનો પહેલો પત્ર 3
1 ૧ તે જ પ્રમાણે, પત્નીઓ, તમે તમારા પતિઓને આધીન રહો, એ માટે કે જો કોઈ પતિ વચન માનનાર ન હોય તો તે પોતાની પત્નીના આચરણથી,
Likewise, you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they may, without the word, be won by the conduct of their wives,
by observing your blameless and reverential conduct.
Let not your adorning be that which is outward, which consists in plaiting the hair, and wearing gold, and putting on apparel:
4 ૪ પણ અંતઃકરણમાં રહેલા ગુપ્ત મનુષ્યત્વનો, એટલે નમ્ર તથા શાંત આત્માનો, જે ઈશ્વરની નજરમાં ઘણો મૂલ્યવાન છે, તેના અવિનાશી આભૂષણોનો હોય.
but let it be the hidden man of the heart, adorned with the incorruptible ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which, in the sight of God, is of great price.
5 ૫ કેમ કે પ્રાચીન સમયમાં જે પવિત્ર સ્ત્રીઓ ઈશ્વર પર ભરોસો રાખતી હતી, તેઓ પોતપોતાનાં પતિને આધીન રહીને, તે જ પ્રમાણે પોતાને શણગારતી હતી.
For, in former times, the holy women also, who trusted in God, thus adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands,
6 ૬ જેમ સારા ઇબ્રાહિમને સ્વામી કહીને તેને આધીન રહેતી તેમ; જો તમે સારું કરો છો અને ભયભીત ન બનો, તો તમે તેની દીકરીઓ છો.
as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: and you are her children, if you do good, and fear no dismay.
7 ૭ તે જ પ્રમાણે પતિઓ, સ્ત્રી નબળી વ્યક્તિ છે તેમ જાણીને તેની સાથે સમજણપૂર્વક રહો, તમે તેની સાથે જીવનની કૃપાના સહવારસ છો એમ સમજીને, તેને માન આપો, કે જેથી તમારી પ્રાર્થનાઓમાં કંઈ અવરોધ આવે નહિ.
Likewise, you husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, bestowing honor on the wife as the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered.
8 ૮ આખરે, તમે સર્વ એક મનના, એકબીજાના સુખ દુઃખમાં સહભાગી, ભાઈઓ પર પ્રેમ રાખનારા, કરુણા કરનાર તથા નમ્ર થાઓ.
Finally, be all of the same mind, be sympathizing, lovers of the brethren, kind-hearted, humble-minded;
9 ૯ દુષ્ટતાનો બદલો વાળવા દુષ્ટતા ન કરો અને નિંદાનો બદલો વાળવા નિંદા ન કરો, પણ તેથી ઊલટું આશીર્વાદ આપો; કેમ કે તેને સારુ તમને તેડવામાં આવ્યા છે કે જેથી તમે આશીર્વાદના વારસ થાઓ.
not repaying evil for evil, nor reviling for reviling, but, on the other hand, blessing, since you know that for this end you were called, that you might inherit blessing.
10 ૧૦ કેમ કે, ‘જે માણસ જીવનને પ્રેમ કરવા ઇચ્છે છે અને સારા દિવસો જોવા ઇચ્છે છે, તેણે પોતાની જીભને દુષ્ટતાથી અને પોતાના હોઠોને કપટી વાતો બોલવાથી અટકાવવા;
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile:
let him turn from evil and do good: let him seek peace, and pursue it.
12 ૧૨ કેમ કે ન્યાયીઓ પર પ્રભુની નજર છે; અને તેઓની પ્રાર્થના પ્રત્યે તેમના કાન ખુલ્લાં છે; પણ પ્રભુ દુષ્ટતા કરનારાઓની વિરુદ્ધ છે.
For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry: but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
And who is he that will harm you, if you be followers of that which is good?
14 ૧૪ પરંતુ જો તમે ન્યાયીપણાને માટે સહન કરો છો, તો તમે આશીર્વાદિત છો; તેઓની ધમકીથી ડરો નહિ’ અને ગભરાઓ પણ નહિ.
But yet, if you even suffer for righteousness, happy are you. Yet fear not their terror, nor be troubled:
15 ૧૫ પણ ખ્રિસ્તને પ્રભુ તરીકે તમારાં અંતઃકરણમાં પવિત્ર માનો; અને તમારી જે આશા છે તે વિષે જો કોઈ પૂછે તો તેને નમ્રતા તથા માન સાથે પ્રત્યુત્તર આપવાને સદા તૈયાર રહો.
but reverence the Lord God in your hearts, and be always ready to answer every one that asks of you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
16 ૧૬ શુદ્ધ અંતઃકરણ રાખો કે જેથી, જે બાબત વિષે તમારું ખરાબ બોલાય છે તે વિષે જેઓ ખ્રિસ્તમાંના તમારા સારા વર્તનની નિંદા કરે છે તેઓ શરમાઈ જાય.
having a good conscience, that, inasmuch as they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who traduce your good con duct in Christ.
17 ૧૭ કેમ કે જો ઈશ્વરની ઇચ્છા એવી હોય, તો દુષ્ટતા કરવાને લીધે સહેવું તે કરતાં ભલું કરવાને લીધે સહેવું તે વધારે સારું છે.
For it is better, if such be the will of God, that you suffer for doing good, than for doing evil.
18 ૧૮ કેમ કે ખ્રિસ્તે પણ એક વાર પાપોને સારુ, એટલે ન્યાયીએ અન્યાયીઓને બદલે સહ્યું કે, જેથી તેઓ આપણને ઈશ્વર પાસે લાવે; તેમને દેહમાં મારી નંખાયા, પણ આત્મામાં સજીવન કરવામાં આવ્યા.
For Christ also once suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, having been put to death in flesh, but made alive in spirit;
in which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison,
20 ૨૦ આ આત્માઓ, નૂહના સમયમાં અનાજ્ઞાંકિત હતા, જયારે વહાણ તૈયાર થતું હતું અને ઈશ્વર સહન કરીને ધીરજ રાખતા હતા, અને જયારે વહાણમાં થોડા લોકો, એટલે આઠ મનુષ્યો પાણીથી બચી ગયા.
who formerly were disobedient, when the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while an ark was preparing, in which few, that is, eight souls, were brought in safety through the water;
21 ૨૧ તે દ્રષ્ટાંત પ્રમાણે બાપ્તિસ્માનાં પાણીથી શરીરનો મેલ દૂર કરવાથી નહિ, પણ ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્તનાં પુનરુત્થાન દ્વારા ઈશ્વર પાસે શુદ્ધ અંતઃકરણની માગણીથી હમણાં તમને બચાવે છે.
the likeness of which, even immersion, (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the seeking of a good conscience toward God, ) does now also save us, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
22 ૨૨ ઈસુ તો સ્વર્ગદૂતો, અધિકારીઓ તથા પરાક્રમીઓને પોતાને આધીન કરીને સ્વર્ગમાં ગયા અને ઈશ્વરને જમણે હાથે બિરાજમાન છે.
who has gone into heaven, and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having become subject to him.
