Ιακωβου 2
1 Ἀδελφοί μου, μὴ ἐν προσωπολημψίαις ἔχετε τὴν πίστιν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ τῆς δόξης.
Brothers of Mine, not with partiality do hold the faith of the Lord of us Jesus Christ of glory.
2 ἐὰν γὰρ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς συναγωγὴν ὑμῶν ἀνὴρ χρυσοδακτύλιος ἐν ἐσθῆτι λαμπρᾷ, εἰσέλθῃ δὲ καὶ πτωχὸς ἐν ῥυπαρᾷ ἐσθῆτι,
If for shall come into (the *k*) assembly of you a man with a gold ring in apparel splendid, may come in then also a poor [man] in shabby apparel
3 καὶ ἐπιβλέψητε ἐπὶ τὸν φοροῦντα τὴν ἐσθῆτα τὴν λαμπράν, καὶ εἴπητε, Σὺ κάθου ὧδε καλῶς, καὶ τῷ πτωχῷ εἴπητε, Σὺ στῆθι ἐκεῖ ἢ κάθου ὑπὸ τὸ ὑποπόδιόν μου,
(and *ko*) you may look (also *no*) upon the [one] wearing the apparel splendid and may say (to him: *k*) You yourself do sit here honorably, and to the poor may say; You yourself do stand there or do sit (here *k*) under the footstool of mine,
4 οὐ διεκρίθητε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, καὶ ἐγένεσθε κριταὶ διαλογισμῶν πονηρῶν;
(and *ko*) not were discriminated among yourselves and you have become judges with thoughts evil?
5 ἀκούσατε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί, οὐχ ὁ θεὸς ἐξελέξατο τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῷ κόσμῳ πλουσίους ἐν πίστει, καὶ κληρονόμους τῆς βασιλείας ἧς ἐπηγγείλατο τοῖς ἀγαπῶσιν αὐτόν;
do listen, brothers of mine beloved, Not God has chosen the poor (in the world *N(k)O*) (this *k*) [to be] rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that He promised to those loving Him?
6 ὑμεῖς δὲ ἠτιμάσατε τὸν πτωχόν. οὐχ οἱ πλούσιοι καταδυναστεύουσιν ὑμῶν καὶ αὐτοὶ ἕλκουσιν ὑμᾶς εἰς κριτήρια;
You yourselves however dishonored the poor. Surely the rich are oppressing you and they themselves dragging you into court?
7 οὐκ αὐτοὶ βλασφημοῦσιν τὸ καλὸν ὄνομα τὸ ἐπικληθὲν ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς;
Surely they themselves are denigrating the good Name which having been called upon you?
8 εἰ μέντοι νόμον τελεῖτε βασιλικόν, κατὰ τὴν γραφήν, Ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν, καλῶς ποιεῖτε·
If indeed [the] law you keep royal according to the Scripture; You will love the neighbour of you as yourself, well you are doing;
9 εἰ δὲ προσωπολημπτεῖτε, ἁμαρτίαν ἐργάζεσθε, ἐλεγχόμενοι ὑπὸ τοῦ νόμου ὡς παραβάται.
If however you show partiality, sin you are committing being convicted by the law as transgressors.
10 ὅστις γὰρ ὅλον τὸν νόμον τηρήσῃ, πταίσῃ δὲ ἐν ἑνί, γέγονεν πάντων ἔνοχος.
Whoever for all the law (may keep, may stumble *N(k)O*) but in one [point], he has become of all guilty.
11 ὁ γὰρ εἰπών, Μὴ μοιχεύσῃς, εἶπεν καί, Μὴ φονεύσῃς· εἰ δὲ οὐ μοιχεύεις, φονεύεις δέ, γέγονας παραβάτης νόμου.
The [One] for having said Not (you may commit adultery, *NK(o)*) said also Not (you may murder. *NK(o)*) If however not (you do commit adultery do commit murder *N(k)O*) however, you have become a transgressor of [the] law.
12 οὕτως λαλεῖτε καὶ οὕτως ποιεῖτε, ὡς διὰ νόμου ἐλευθερίας μέλλοντες κρίνεσθαι·
Thus do speak and so do act as through [the] law of freedom being about to be judged.
13 ἡ γὰρ κρίσις ἀνέλεος τῷ μὴ ποιήσαντι ἔλεος· κατακαυχᾶται ἔλεος κρίσεως.
For judgment without mercy [will be] to the [one] not having shown mercy; (and *k*) (it triumphs over mercy *NK(o)*) judgment.
14 Τί τὸ ὄφελος, ἀδελφοί μου, ἐὰν πίστιν λέγῃ τις ἔχειν, ἔργα δὲ μὴ ἔχῃ; μὴ δύναται ἡ πίστις σῶσαι αὐτόν;
What [is] the profit, brothers of mine, if faith shall say anyone to have, works however not he may have? Surely not is able the faith to save him?
15 ἐὰν ἀδελφὸς ἢ ἀδελφὴ γυμνοὶ ὑπάρχωσιν καὶ λειπόμενοι τῆς ἐφημέρου τροφῆς,
Now if (now *k*) a brother or a sister without clothes shall be and lacking (they may be *ko*) of daily food,
16 εἴπῃ δέ τις αὐτοῖς ἐξ ὑμῶν, Ὑπάγετε ἐν εἰρήνῃ, θερμαίνεσθε καὶ χορτάζεσθε, μὴ δῶτε δὲ αὐτοῖς τὰ ἐπιτήδεια τοῦ σώματος, τί τὸ ὄφελος;
may say then anyone to them out from you; do go in peace, do be warmed and do be filled, surely not may give however to them the needful things for the body, what [is] the profit?
17 οὕτως καὶ ἡ πίστις, ἐὰν μὴ ἔχῃ ἔργα, νεκρά ἐστιν καθ᾽ ἑαυτήν.
So also faith, only unless it shall have works [then] dead it is by itself.
18 ἀλλ᾽ ἐρεῖ τις, Σὺ πίστιν ἔχεις, κἀγὼ ἔργα ἔχω· δεῖξόν μοι τὴν πίστιν σου χωρὶς τῶν ἔργων, κἀγώ σοι δείξω ἐκ τῶν ἔργων μου τὴν πίστιν.
But will say someone; You yourself faith have, and I myself and I myself works have; do show me the faith of you (without *N(k)O*) the works (of you *k*) and I myself and I myself you will show by the works of mine the faith (of mine. *k*)
19 σὺ πιστεύεις ὅτι εἷς ἐστιν ὁ θεός· καλῶς ποιεῖς· καὶ τὰ δαιμόνια πιστεύουσιν, καὶ φρίσσουσιν.
You yourself believe that one is God; Well you are doing! Even the demons believe [that] and shudder!
20 θέλεις δὲ γνῶναι, ὦ ἄνθρωπε κενέ, ὅτι ἡ πίστις χωρὶς τῶν ἔργων ἀργή ἐστιν;
Do you want however to come to know, O man foolish, that faith apart from works (worthless *N(K)O*) is?
21 Ἀβραὰμ ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη ἀνενέγκας Ἰσαὰκ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον;
Abraham the father of us not by works was justified having offered Isaac the son of him upon the altar?
22 βλέπεις ὅτι ἡ πίστις συνήργει τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἔργων ἡ πίστις ἐτελειώθη;
[Do] you see that [his] faith was working with the works of him and by [his] works [his] faith was perfected?
23 καὶ ἐπληρώθη ἡ γραφὴ ἡ λέγουσα, Ἐπίστευσεν δὲ Ἀβραὰμ τῷ θεῷ, καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην, καὶ φίλος θεοῦ ἐκλήθη.
And was fulfilled the Scripture which is saying; Believed then Abraham in God and it was counted to him for righteousness and a friend of God he was called.
24 ὁρᾶτε ὅτι ἐξ ἔργων δικαιοῦται ἄνθρωπος, καὶ οὐκ ἐκ πίστεως μόνον;
You see (therefore *K*) that by works is justified a man and not by faith alone.
25 ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Ῥαὰβ ἡ πόρνη οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη, ὑποδεξαμένη τοὺς ἀγγέλους, καὶ ἑτέρᾳ ὁδῷ ἐκβαλοῦσα;
Likewise then also Rahab the prostitute not by works was justified having received the messengers and by another way having sent [them] forth?
26 ὥσπερ γὰρ τὸ σῶμα χωρὶς πνεύματος νεκρόν ἐστιν, οὕτως καὶ ἡ πίστις χωρὶς [τῶν] ἔργων νεκρά ἐστιν.
Just as for the body apart from spirit dead is, so also faith apart from (*ko*) works dead is.
