Προς Γαλατας 1
1 Πρὸς Κορινθίους δευτέρα ἐγράφη ἀπὸ Φιλίππων τῆς Μακεδονίας διὰ Τίτου καὶ Λουκᾶ. Παῦλος ἀπόστολος οὐκ ἀπ᾿ ἀνθρώπων, οὐδὲ δι᾿ ἀνθρώπου, ἀλλὰ διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, καὶ Θεοῦ πατρὸς τοῦ ἐγείραντος αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν,
Paul, an apostle, —not from men, nor through man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father who raised him from among the dead,
2 καὶ οἱ σὺν ἐμοὶ πάντες ἀδελφοί, ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Γαλατίας·
And all the brethren with me; —unto the assemblies of Galatia:
3 χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ Θεοῦ πατρός, καὶ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,
Favour unto you and peace, from God our Father, and Lord Jesus Christ, —
4 τοῦ δόντος ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν, ὅπως ἐξέληται ἡμᾶς ἐκ τοῦ ἐνεστῶτος αἰῶνος πονηροῦ, κατὰ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν· (aiōn g165)
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us out of the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, — (aiōn g165)
Unto whom be the glory unto the ages of ages: Amen! (aiōn g165)
6 Θαυμάζω ὅτι οὕτω ταχέως μετατίθεσθε ἀπὸ τοῦ καλέσαντος ὑμᾶς ἐν χάριτι Χριστοῦ εἰς ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον·
I marvel that, thus quickly, ye are moving away from him that called you in the favour of Christ, unto a different glad-message, —
7 ὃ οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλο, εἰ μή τινές εἰσιν οἱ ταράσσοντες ὑμᾶς καὶ θέλοντες μεταστρέψαι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ.
Which is not, another, only there are, some, that are troubling you, and wishing to change the glad-message of the Christ.
8 Ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐὰν ἡμεῖς ἢ ἄγγελος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ εὐαγγελίζηται ὑμῖν παρ᾿ ὃ εὐηγγελισάμεθα ὑμῖν, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω.
But, even if, we, or, a messenger out of heaven, announce a glad-message [unto you] aside from that which we announced unto you, accursed, let him be!
9 Ὡς προειρήκαμεν, καὶ ἄρτι πάλιν λέγω, εἴ τις ὑμᾶς εὐαγγελίζεται παρ᾿ ὃ παρελάβετε, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω.
As we have said before, even now, again, I say: If anyone is announcing unto you a glad-message aside from that which ye accepted, accursed, let him be!
10 Ἄρτι γὰρ ἀνθρώπους πείθω ἢ τὸν Θεόν; Ἢ ζητῶ ἀνθρώποις ἀρέσκειν; Εἰ γὰρ ἔτι ἀνθρώποις ἤρεσκον, Χριστοῦ δοῦλος οὐκ ἂν ἤμην.
For am I, even now, persuading, men, or God? Or am I seeking to please, men? If I had been still pleasing, men, Christ’s servant, had I not been!
11 Γνωρίζω δὲ ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοί, τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν ὑπ᾿ ἐμοῦ, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστι κατὰ ἄνθρωπον.
For I make known unto you, brethren, as to the glad-message which was announced by me, that it is not after man;
12 Οὐδὲ γὰρ ἐγὼ παρὰ ἀνθρώπου παρέλαβον αὐτό, οὔτε ἐδιδάχθην, ἀλλὰ δι᾿ ἀποκαλύψεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.
For neither, from man, did I accept it, nor was taught [it], —but through a revealing of Jesus Christ.
13 Ἠκούσατε γὰρ τὴν ἐμὴν ἀναστροφήν ποτε ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ, ὅτι καθ᾿ ὑπερβολὴν ἐδίωκον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἐπόρθουν αὐτήν·
For ye have heard, as to my own manner of life, at one time, in Judaism, how that, exceedingly, was I persecuting the assembly of God, and laying it waste,
14 καὶ προέκοπτον ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ ὑπὲρ πολλοὺς συνηλικιώτας ἐν τῷ γένει μου, περισσοτέρως ζηλωτὴς ὑπάρχων τῶν πατρικῶν μου παραδόσεων.
And was making advancement, in Judaism, above many contemporaries in my nation, being, surpassingly zealous, of my paternal instructions.
15 Ὅτε δὲ εὐδόκησεν ὁ Θεὸς ὁ ἀφορίσας με ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου καὶ καλέσας διὰ τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ,
But, when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me through his favour, was well-pleased
16 ἀποκαλύψαι τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐμοὶ ἵνα εὐαγγελίζωμαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, εὐθέως οὐ προσανεθέμην σαρκὶ καὶ αἵματι·
to reveal his Son in me, that I might announce the glad-message regarding him among the nations, straightway, I conferred not with flesh and blood,
17 οὐδὲ ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα πρὸς τοὺς πρὸ ἐμοῦ ἀποστόλους, ἀλλ᾿ ἀπῆλθον εἰς Ἀραβίαν, καὶ πάλιν ὑπέστρεψα εἰς Δαμασκόν.
Neither went I up unto Jerusalem unto them who, before me, were apostles, —but I went away into Arabia, and again returned unto Damascus.
18 Ἔπειτα μετὰ ἔτη τρία ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἱστορῆσαι Πέτρον, καὶ ἐπέμεινα πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡμέρας δεκαπέντε.
Then, after three years, went I up unto Jerusalem, to become acquainted with Cephas, and tarried with him fifteen days;
19 Ἕτερον δὲ τῶν ἀποστόλων οὐκ εἶδον, εἰ μὴ Ἰάκωβον τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ Κυρίου.
But, other of the apostles, saw I none, save James the brother of the Lord: —
20 Ἃ δὲ γράφω ὑμῖν, ἰδοὺ ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι οὐ ψεύδομαι.
Now, as touching the things which I am writing to you, lo! before God, I am not guilty of falsehood: —
21 Ἔπειτα ἦλθον εἰς τὰ κλίματα τῆς Συρίας καὶ τῆς Κιλικίας.
After that, I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia,
22 Ἤμην δὲ ἀγνοούμενος τῷ προσώπῳ ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Ἰουδαίας ταῖς ἐν Χριστῷ·
And was still unknown, by face, unto the assemblies of Judaea which were in Christ, —
23 μόνον δὲ ἀκούοντες ἦσαν ὅτι Ὁ διώκων ἡμᾶς ποτέ, νῦν εὐαγγελίζεται τὴν πίστιν ἥν ποτε ἐπόρθει.
Only they were hearing—He that was persecuting us formerly, now, is announcing the glad-message of the faith which he formerly laid waste;
24 Καὶ ἐδόξαζον ἐν ἐμοὶ τὸν Θεόν.
And they were glorifying, God, in me.
