Κατα Μαρκον 4
1 Καὶ πάλιν ἤρξατο διδάσκειν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν. Καὶ συνάγεται πρὸς αὐτὸν ὄχλος πλεῖστος, ὥστε αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ἐμβάντα, καθῆσθαι ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἦσαν.
Again he began to teach by the seaside. A great multitude was gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat in the sea and sat down. All the multitude were on the land by the sea.
2 Καὶ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν παραβολαῖς πολλά, καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ,
He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching,
3 “Ἀκούετε! Ἰδοὺ, ἐξῆλθεν ὁ σπείρων σπεῖραι.
“Listen! Behold, the farmer went out to sow.
4 Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ σπείρειν, ὃ μὲν ἔπεσεν παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν, καὶ ἦλθεν τὰ πετεινὰ καὶ κατέφαγεν αὐτό.
As he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds came and devoured it.
5 Καὶ ἄλλο ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὸ πετρῶδες, καὶ ὅπου οὐκ εἶχεν γῆν πολλήν, καὶ εὐθὺς ἐξανέτειλεν διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν βάθος γῆς·
Others fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil.
6 καὶ ὅτε ἀνέτειλεν ὁ ἥλιος ἐκαυματίσθη, καὶ διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν ῥίζαν ἐξηράνθη.
When the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
7 Καὶ ἄλλο ἔπεσεν εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας, καὶ ἀνέβησαν αἱ ἄκανθαι καὶ συνέπνιξαν αὐτό, καὶ καρπὸν οὐκ ἔδωκεν.
Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
8 Καὶ ἄλλα ἔπεσεν εἰς τὴν γῆν τὴν καλήν, καὶ ἐδίδου καρπὸν, ἀναβαίνοντα καὶ αὐξανόμενα, καὶ ἔφερεν εἰς τριάκοντα, καὶ ἓν ἑξήκοντα, καὶ ἓν ἑκατόν.”
Others fell into the good ground and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing. Some produced thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times as much.”
9 Καὶ ἔλεγεν, “Ὃς ἔχει ὦτα ἀκούειν, ἀκουέτω.”
He said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10 Καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο κατὰ μόνας, ἠρώτων αὐτὸν οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν σὺν τοῖς δώδεκα τὰς παραβολάς.
When he was alone, those who were around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.
11 Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, “Ὑμῖν τὸ μυστήριον δέδοται τῆς Βασιλείας τοῦ ˚Θεοῦ· ἐκείνοις δὲ τοῖς ἔξω, ἐν παραβολαῖς τὰ πάντα γίνεται,
He said to them, “To you is given the mystery of God’s Kingdom, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,
12 ἵνα ‘βλέποντες, βλέπωσιν καὶ μὴ ἴδωσιν, καὶ ἀκούοντες, ἀκούωσι καὶ μὴ συνιῶσιν, μήποτε ἐπιστρέψωσιν καὶ ἀφεθῇ αὐτοῖς.’”
that ‘seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.’”
13 Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, “Οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην, καὶ πῶς πάσας τὰς παραβολὰς γνώσεσθε;
He said to them, “Do not you understand this parable? How will you understand all of the parables?
14 Ὁ σπείρων τὸν λόγον σπείρει.
The farmer sows the word.
15 Οὗτοι δέ εἰσιν οἱ παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν, ὅπου σπείρεται ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν, εὐθὺς ἔρχεται ὁ Σατανᾶς, καὶ αἴρει τὸν λόγον τὸν ἐσπαρμένον εἰς αὐτούς.
The ones by the road are the ones where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them.
16 Καὶ οὗτοί εἰσιν ὁμοίως οἱ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπειρόμενοι, οἳ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν τὸν λόγον, εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνουσιν αὐτόν,
These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.
17 καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιροί εἰσιν, εἶτα γενομένης θλίψεως ἢ διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον, εὐθὺς σκανδαλίζονται.
They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.
18 Καὶ ἄλλοι εἰσὶν οἱ εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας σπειρόμενοι, οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ τὸν λόγον ἀκούσαντες,
Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word,
19 καὶ αἱ μέριμναι τοῦ αἰῶνος, καὶ ἡ ἀπάτη τοῦ πλούτου, καὶ αἱ περὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἐπιθυμίαι εἰσπορευόμεναι, συμπνίγουσιν τὸν λόγον, καὶ ἄκαρπος γίνεται. (aiōn g165)
and the cares of this age (aiōn g165), and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
20 Καὶ ἐκεῖνοί εἰσιν οἱ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τὴν καλὴν σπαρέντες, οἵτινες ἀκούουσιν τὸν λόγον καὶ παραδέχονται καὶ καρποφοροῦσιν, ἓν τριάκοντα, καὶ ἓν ἑξήκοντα, καὶ ἓν ἑκατόν.”
Those which were sown on the good ground are those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times.”
21 Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, “Μήτι ἔρχεται ὁ λύχνος, ἵνα ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον τεθῇ, ἢ ὑπὸ τὴν κλίνην; Οὐχ ἵνα ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν τεθῇ;
He said to them, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is not it put on a stand?
22 Οὐ γάρ ἐστιν κρυπτὸν, ἐὰν μὴ ἵνα φανερωθῇ, οὐδὲ ἐγένετο ἀπόκρυφον, ἀλλʼ ἵνα ἔλθῃ εἰς φανερόν.
For there is nothing hidden except that it should be made known, neither was anything made secret but that it should come to light.
23 Εἴ τις ἔχει ὦτα ἀκούειν, ἀκουέτω.”
If any man has ears to hear, let him hear.”
24 Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, “Βλέπετε τί ἀκούετε. Ἐν ᾧ μέτρῳ μετρεῖτε μετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν, καὶ προστεθήσεται ὑμῖν.
He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you; and more will be given to you who hear.
25 Ὃς γὰρ ἔχει, δοθήσεται αὐτῷ· καὶ ὃς οὐκ ἔχει, καὶ ὃ ἔχει ἀρθήσεται ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ.”
For whoever has, to him more will be given; and he who does not have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.”
26 Καὶ ἔλεγεν, “Οὕτως ἐστὶν ἡ Βασιλεία τοῦ ˚Θεοῦ: ὡς ἄνθρωπος βάλῃ τὸν σπόρον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,
He said, “God’s Kingdom is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,
27 καὶ καθεύδῃ καὶ ἐγείρηται νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν, καὶ ὁ σπόρος βλαστᾷ καὶ μηκύνηται– ὡς οὐκ οἶδεν αὐτός.
and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, though he does not know how.
28 Αὐτομάτη ἡ γῆ καρποφορεῖ: πρῶτον χόρτον, εἶτεν στάχυν, εἶτα πλήρης σῖτον ἐν τῷ στάχυϊ.
For the earth bears fruit by itself: first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
29 Ὅταν δὲ παραδοῖ ὁ καρπός, εὐθὺς ἀποστέλλει τὸ δρέπανον, ὅτι παρέστηκεν ὁ θερισμός.”
But when the fruit is ripe, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
30 Καὶ ἔλεγεν, “Πῶς ὁμοιώσωμεν τὴν Βασιλείαν τοῦ ˚Θεοῦ, ἢ ἐν τίνι αὐτὴν παραβολῇ θῶμεν;
He said, “How will we liken God’s Kingdom? Or with what parable will we illustrate it?
31 Ὡς κόκκῳ σινάπεως, ὃς ὅταν σπαρῇ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, μικρότερον ὂν πάντων τῶν σπερμάτων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,
It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seeds that are on the earth,
32 καὶ ὅταν σπαρῇ, ἀναβαίνει καὶ γίνεται μεῖζον πάντων τῶν λαχάνων, καὶ ποιεῖ κλάδους μεγάλους, ὥστε ‘δύνασθαι ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνοῦν’.”
yet when it is sown, grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”
33 Καὶ τοιαύταις παραβολαῖς πολλαῖς, ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον, καθὼς ἠδύναντο ἀκούειν·
With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.
34 χωρὶς δὲ παραβολῆς οὐκ ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς, κατʼ ἰδίαν δὲ τοῖς ἰδίοις μαθηταῖς, ἐπέλυεν πάντα.
Without a parable he did not speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.
35 Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὀψίας γενομένης, “Διέλθωμεν εἰς τὸ πέραν.”
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.”
36 Καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν ὄχλον, παραλαμβάνουσιν αὐτὸν ὡς ἦν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ. Καὶ ἄλλα πλοῖα ἦν μετʼ αὐτοῦ.
Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him.
37 Καὶ γίνεται λαῖλαψ μεγάλη ἀνέμου, καὶ τὰ κύματα ἐπέβαλλεν εἰς τὸ πλοῖον, ὥστε ἤδη γεμίζεσθαι τὸ πλοῖον.
A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled.
38 Καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἐν τῇ πρύμνῃ, ἐπὶ τὸ προσκεφάλαιον καθεύδων. Καὶ διεγείρουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ, “Διδάσκαλε, οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἀπολλύμεθα;”
He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and asked him, “Teacher, do not you care that we are dying?”
39 Καὶ διεγερθεὶς, ἐπετίμησεν τῷ ἀνέμῳ καὶ εἶπεν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, “Σιώπα, πεφίμωσο.” Καὶ ἐκόπασεν ὁ ἄνεμος, καὶ ἐγένετο γαλήνη μεγάλη.
He awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was a great calm.
40 Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, “Τί δειλοί ἐστε; Οὔπω ἔχετε πίστιν;”
He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”
41 Καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν φόβον μέγαν, καὶ ἔλεγον πρὸς ἀλλήλους, “Τίς ἄρα οὗτός ἐστιν, ὅτι καὶ ὁ ἄνεμος καὶ ἡ θάλασσα αὐτῷ ὑπακούει;”
They were greatly afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
