After these things Jesus resided in Galilee: for He would not appear in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him.
Now the Jews feast called the feast of tabernacles was near;
his brethren therefore said, Depart from hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples there also may see the works which thou performest.
For no man doth any thing in secret, who is himself desirous to be known in public. As thou dost these wonderful things, make thyself known to the world.
For neither did his brethren believe in Him.
Then saith Jesus unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always alike ready; for the world cannot hate you:
but me it hates, because I bear my testimony concerning it, that it's deeds are evil.
Go ye up to this feast as soon as ye please; for I am not yet going up to it, because my time is not yet fully come.
And after He had said these things unto them, He stayed a while in Galilee.
But when his brethren were gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not in a public manner but as it were in private.
11 οἱ οὖν Ἰουδαῖοι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ καὶ ἔλεγον· ποῦ ἐστιν ἐκεῖνος;
The Jews therefore sought for Him at the feast, and said, Where is He?
And there was much murmuring among the people concerning Him: for some said, He is a good man; others said, No: He deceiveth the people.
No one however spake openly in favor of Him, for fear of the Jews.
But when it was now about the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
15 (καὶ *k*) ἐθαύμαζον (οὖν *NO*) οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες· πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς;
And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, who never learnt?
Jesus answered them and said, The doctrine that I teach is not mine, but his that sent me.
If any man desire to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
He, that speaketh from himself, seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of Him that sent him is true, and there is no imposture in him.
19 οὐ Μωϋσῆς (δέδωκεν *NK(o)*) ὑμῖν τὸν νόμον; καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ποιεῖ τὸν νόμον· τί με ζητεῖτε ἀποκτεῖναι;
Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you observeth the law? wherefore else do ye seek to kill me?
20 ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ὄχλος (καὶ εἶπεν· *k*) δαιμόνιον ἔχεις· τίς σε ζητεῖ ἀποκτεῖναι;
The people answered and said, Thou art possessed by a demon: who seeketh to kill thee?
Jesus answered and said unto them, I performed one miracle on the sabbath, and ye are all amazed at it.
Now Moses gave you the law of circumcision, (not that it is originally from Moses, but from the patriarchs, ) and ye circumcise even on the sabbath:
23 εἰ περιτομὴν λαμβάνει (ὁ *o*) ἄνθρωπος ἐν σαββάτῳ ἵνα μὴ λυθῇ ὁ νόμος Μωϋσέως, ἐμοὶ χολᾶτε ὅτι ὅλον ἄνθρωπον ὑγιῆ ἐποίησα ἐν σαββάτῳ;
if then a man receive circumcision on the sabbath-day, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye angry with me, because I made a man perfectly well on the sabbath-day?
Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgement.
25 ἔλεγον οὖν τινες ἐκ τῶν Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν· οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὃν ζητοῦσιν ἀποκτεῖναι;
Therefore some of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this He whom they seek to put to death?
26 καὶ ἴδε παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖ, καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν. μήποτε μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν (ἀληθῶς *K*) ὁ χριστός;
and here He talketh openly, and they say nothing to Him: Do the rulers indeed know, that this is in truth the Messiah?
But we know whence this man is; whereas when Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence He is.
Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me, ye say, and ye know whence I am: now I am not come of myself, but He that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He hath sent me.
They sought therefore to seize Him, but no one laid hand on Him, because his hour was not yet come.
31 ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου δὲ πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλεγον (ὅτι· *k*) ὁ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ, (μὴ *N(k)O*) πλείονα σημεῖα (τούτων *k*) ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν;
And many of the people believed on Him, and said, When the Messiah cometh, will He do more miracles than this man hath done?
Now the pharisees heard the people murmuring these things concerning Him: and they, with the chief priests, sent officers to seize Him.
Therefore Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while I am to be among you, and then I shall go to Him that sent me.
Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am to be, ye cannot come.
35 εἶπον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι πρὸς ἑαυτούς· ποῦ οὗτος μέλλει πορεύεσθαι ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐχ εὑρήσομεν αὐτόν; μὴ εἰς τὴν διασπορὰν τῶν Ἑλλήνων μέλλει πορεύεσθαι καὶ διδάσκειν τοὺς Ἕλληνας;
Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will He go, that we shall not find Him? will He go to them that are dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36 τίς ἐστιν ὁ λόγος οὗτος ὃν εἶπεν· ζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσετέ (με, *NK*) καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν;
What is the meaning of this speech, that He said, "Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am to be, ye cannot come?"
And on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If any one thirst, let him come unto me and drink.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, rivers of living water shall flow from within him.
(This He spake of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive; for the holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this discourse, said, This is in truth a prophet.
41 ἄλλοι ἔλεγον· οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ χριστός· (οἱ *N(k)O*) δὲ ἔλεγον· μὴ γὰρ ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ὁ χριστὸς ἔρχεται;
Others said, This is the Messiah. But some said, Shall the Messiah come out of Galilee?
42 (οὐχ *N(k)O*) ἡ γραφὴ εἶπεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματος Δαυὶδ καὶ ἀπὸ Βηθλέεμ τῆς κώμης ὅπου ἦν Δαυὶδ ἔρχεται ὁ χριστός;
Hath not the Scripture said, that Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town whence David was.
So there was a division among the people about Him.
And some among them would have seized Him: but no one laid hands on Him.
45 Ἦλθον οὖν οἱ ὑπηρέται πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ Φαρισαίους, καὶ εἶπον αὐτοῖς ἐκεῖνοι· διὰ τί οὐκ ἠγάγετε αὐτόν;
Then came the officers to the chief priests and pharisees, and they said, Why have ye not brought Him? and the officers answered,
*KO*)
Never man spake like this man.
47 ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν αὐτοῖς οἱ Φαρισαῖοι· μὴ καὶ ὑμεῖς πεπλάνησθε;
The pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?
48 μή τις ἐκ τῶν ἀρχόντων ἐπίστευσεν εἰς αὐτὸν ἢ ἐκ τῶν Φαρισαίων;
have any of the rulers believed on Him, or of the pharisees?
but these people, who know not the law, are cursed.
Upon this Nicodemus, (who came to Him by night)
51 μὴ ὁ νόμος ἡμῶν κρίνει τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἐὰν μὴ ἀκούσῃ (πρῶτον *N(k)O*) παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ καὶ γνῷ τί ποιεῖ;
being one of them, saith to them, Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he hath done?
They replied, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and see: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
And every man went to his own house.
