< Ιακωβου 4 >
1 Πόθεν πόλεμοι καὶ (πόθεν *no*) μάχαι ἐν ὑμῖν; οὐκ ἐντεῦθεν, ἐκ τῶν ἡδονῶν ὑμῶν τῶν στρατευομένων ἐν τοῖς μέλεσιν ὑμῶν;
Whence wars and fightings among you? Do they not come hence, even from your lusts, which war in your members?
2 ἐπιθυμεῖτε καὶ οὐκ ἔχετε· φονεύετε καὶ ζηλοῦτε καὶ οὐ δύνασθε ἐπιτυχεῖν· μάχεσθε καὶ πολεμεῖτε· οὐκ ἔχετε (δὲ *k*) διὰ τὸ μὴ αἰτεῖσθαι ὑμᾶς·
You strongly desire, and have not; you kill, and are zealous, and can not obtain. You fight and war, but have not, because you ask not.
3 αἰτεῖτε καὶ οὐ λαμβάνετε, διότι κακῶς αἰτεῖσθε, ἵνα ἐν ταῖς ἡδοναῖς ὑμῶν δαπανήσητε.
You ask, and do not receive, because you ask wickedly, that you may spend upon your lusts.
4 (μοιχοὶ καὶ *K*) μοιχαλίδες, οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι ἡ φιλία τοῦ κόσμου ἔχθρα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν; ὃς (ἐὰν *N(k)O*) οὖν βουληθῇ φίλος εἶναι τοῦ κόσμου, ἐχθρὸς τοῦ θεοῦ καθίσταται.
Adulterers, and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity against God? Whosoever, therefore, will be a friend of the world, is counted an enemy of God.
5 ἢ δοκεῖτε ὅτι κενῶς ἡ γραφὴ λέγει; πρὸς φθόνον ἐπιποθεῖ τὸ πνεῦμα ὃ (κατῴκισεν *N(k)O*) ἐν ἡμῖν,
Do you think that the scripture speaks in vain? And does the spirit, who dwells in us, strongly incline to envy?
6 μείζονα δὲ δίδωσιν χάριν· διὸ λέγει· ὁ θεὸς ὑπερηφάνοις ἀντιτάσσεται, ταπεινοῖς δὲ δίδωσιν χάριν.
But he gives greater favor. For it says, "God resists the proud, but gives favor to the humble."
7 ὑποτάγητε οὖν τῷ θεῷ. ἀντίστητε (δὲ *no*) τῷ διαβόλῳ καὶ φεύξεται ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν,
Therefore, be subject to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 ἐγγίσατε τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἐγγιεῖ ὑμῖν. καθαρίσατε χεῖρας, ἁμαρτωλοί, καὶ ἁγνίσατε καρδίας, δίψυχοι.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you men of two minds.
9 ταλαιπωρήσατε καὶ πενθήσατε καὶ κλαύσατε· ὁ γέλως ὑμῶν εἰς πένθος (μετατραπήτω *N(k)O*) καὶ ἡ χαρὰ εἰς κατήφειαν.
Be exceedingly afflicted, and mourn, and weep; and let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into sadness.
10 ταπεινώθητε ἐνώπιον (τοῦ *ko*) κυρίου καὶ ὑψώσει ὑμᾶς.
Be humble in the presence of the Lord, and he will lift you up.
11 Μὴ καταλαλεῖτε ἀλλήλων, ἀδελφοί· ὁ καταλαλῶν ἀδελφοῦ (ἢ *N(k)O*) κρίνων τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καταλαλεῖ νόμου καὶ κρίνει νόμον· εἰ δὲ νόμον κρίνεις, οὐκ εἶ ποιητὴς νόμου ἀλλὰ κριτής.
He who speaks against his brother, and condemns his brother, speaks against the law, and condemns the law. But if you condemn the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 εἷς ἐστιν ὁ νομοθέτης (καὶ κριτὴς *NO*) ὁ δυνάμενος σῶσαι καὶ ἀπολέσαι· σὺ (δὲ *no*) τίς εἶ (ὁ κρίνων *N(k)O*) τὸν (πλησίον; *N(K)O*)
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save, and to destroy. Who are you, that condemn another?
13 Ἄγε νῦν οἱ λέγοντες· σήμερον (ἢ *N(k)O*) αὔριον (πορευσόμεθα *N(k)O*) εἰς τήνδε τὴν πόλιν καὶ (ποιήσομεν *N(k)O*) ἐκεῖ ἐνιαυτὸν (ἕνα *K*) καὶ (ἐμπορευσόμεθα *N(k)O*) καὶ (κερδήσομεν· *N(k)O*)
Come, now, you who say, To-day, or to-morrow, we will go to such a city, and will abide there one year, and traffic in merchandise, and get gain;
14 οἵτινες οὐκ ἐπίστασθε τὸ τῆς αὔριον ποία (γὰρ *ko*) ἡ ζωὴ ὑμῶν. ἀτμὶς γάρ (ἐστε *N(K)(o)*) ἡ πρὸς ὀλίγον φαινομένη ἔπειτα (δὲ *k*) καὶ ἀφανιζομένη·
who do not know what shall be to-morrow. For what is your life? It is, indeed, a smoke, which appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.
15 ἀντὶ τοῦ λέγειν ὑμᾶς· ἐὰν ὁ κύριος (θελήσῃ *NK(o)*) καὶ (ζήσομεν *N(k)O*) καὶ (ποιήσομεν *N(k)O*) τοῦτο ἢ ἐκεῖνο.
Instead of which, you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 νῦν δὲ καυχᾶσθε ἐν ταῖς ἀλαζονείαις ὑμῶν· πᾶσα καύχησις τοιαύτη πονηρά ἐστιν.
But now you boast in your proud speeches: all such boasting is evil.
17 εἰδότι οὖν καλὸν ποιεῖν καὶ μὴ ποιοῦντι, ἁμαρτία αὐτῷ ἐστιν.
Wherefore, to him who know how to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
