1 Μετὰ δὲ πέντε ἡμέρας κατέβη ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς Ἁνανίας μετὰ (τῶν *k*) πρεσβυτέρων (τινῶν *NO*) καὶ ῥήτορος Τερτύλλου τινός, οἵτινες ἐνεφάνισαν τῷ ἡγεμόνι κατὰ τοῦ Παύλου.

And, after five days, the high, Ananias, came down, with the elders, and a certain orator, named Tertullus: and they made their appearance before the governor, against Paul.

2 κληθέντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἤρξατο κατηγορεῖν ὁ Τέρτυλλος λέγων· πολλῆς εἰρήνης τυγχάνοντες διὰ σοῦ καὶ (διορθωμάτων *N(K)O*) γινομένων τῷ ἔθνει τούτῳ διὰ τῆς σῆς προνοίας

And he being called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, As we enjoy great peace by your means, and as illustrious deeds are happily done to this nation, by your prudent administration;

3 πάντῃ τε καὶ πανταχοῦ ἀποδεχόμεθα, κράτιστε Φῆλιξ, μετὰ πάσης εὐχαριστίας.

we accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

4 ἵνα δὲ μὴ ἐπὶ πλεῖόν σε ἐγκόπτω, παρακαλῶ ἀκοῦσαί σε ἡμῶν συντόμως τῇ σῇ ἐπιεικείᾳ.

But, that I may not further trouble you, I beseech you to hear us briefly, with your usual candor.

5 εὑρόντες γὰρ τὸν ἄνδρα τοῦτον λοιμὸν καὶ κινοῦντα (στάσεις *N(K)O*) πᾶσιν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις τοῖς κατὰ τὴν οἰκουμένην πρωτοστάτην τε τῆς τῶν Ναζωραίων αἱρέσεως·

for we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world; and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

6 ὃς καὶ τὸ ἱερὸν ἐπείρασεν βεβηλῶσαι, ὃν καὶ ἐκρατήσαμεν (καὶ κατὰ τὸν ἡμέτερον νόμον ἠθελήσαμεν κρίνειν. *K*)

who has attempted to profane the temple; and whom we apprehended, and would have judged according to our law;

7 (παρελθὼν δὲ Λυσίας ὁ χιλίαρχος μετὰ πολλῆς βίας ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν ἡμῶν ἀπήγαγε, *K*)

but Lysias, the commander, coming upon us with a great force, took him away out of our hands,

8 (κελεύσας τοὺς κατηγόρους αὐτοῦ ἔρχεσθαι ἐπὶ σέ· *K*) παρ᾽ οὗ δυνήσῃ αὐτὸς ἀνακρίνας περὶ πάντων τούτων ἐπιγνῶναι ὧν ἡμεῖς κατηγοροῦμεν αὐτοῦ.

commanding his accusers to come to you; by which means, you may yourself, on examination, know the certainty of all these things, of which we accuse him.

9 (συνεπέθεντο *N(k)O*) δὲ καὶ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι φάσκοντες ταῦτα οὕτως ἔχειν.

And the Jews also gave their assent, saying, that these things were so.

10 Ἀπεκρίθη (τε *N(k)O*) ὁ Παῦλος, νεύσαντος αὐτῷ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος λέγειν· ἐκ πολλῶν ἐτῶν ὄντα σε κριτὴν τῷ ἔθνει τούτῳ ἐπιστάμενος εὐθύμως τὰ περὶ ἐμαυτοῦ ἀπολογοῦμαι·

Then Paul, after the governor had made a signal to him to speak, answered, Knowing that you, O Felix! have been for several years a judge to this nation, I answer for myself with the more cheerfulness;

11 δυναμένου σου (ἐπιγνῶναι *N(k)O*) ὅτι οὐ πλείους εἰσίν μοι ἡμέραι (ἤ *k*) (δώδεκα *N(k)O*) ἀφ᾽ ἧς ἀνέβην προσκυνήσων (εἰς *N(k)O*) Ἰερουσαλήμ·

since you may know that it is no more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem;

12 καὶ οὔτε ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ εὗρόν με πρός τινα διαλεγόμενον ἢ (ἐπίστασιν *N(k)O*) ποιοῦντα ὄχλου οὔτε ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς οὔτε κατὰ τὴν πόλιν·

and they neither found me disputing with any man in the temple, nor making any insurrection among the people, either in the synagogues, or in the city:

13 (οὐδὲ *N(k)O*) παραστῆσαι δύνανταί (σοι *N(K)O*) περὶ ὧν (νυνὶ *N(k)O*) κατηγοροῦσίν μου.

nor can they produce any proof of the things concerning which they now accuse me.

14 ὁμολογῶ δὲ τοῦτό σοι ὅτι κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἣν λέγουσιν αἵρεσιν οὕτως λατρεύω τῷ πατρῴῳ θεῷ πιστεύων πᾶσιν τοῖς κατὰ τὸν νόμον καὶ (τοῖς ἐν *no*) τοῖς προφήταις γεγραμμένοις,

But this I confess to you, that after the way which they call a sect, so worship I the God of our fathers; believing all things which are written in the law, and in the prophets;

15 ἐλπίδα ἔχων εἰς τὸν θεὸν ἣν καὶ αὐτοὶ οὗτοι προσδέχονται, ἀνάστασιν μέλλειν ἔσεσθαι (νεκρῶν *K*) δικαίων τε καὶ ἀδίκων·

having hope toward God, of that which they themselves also expect, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and of the unjust.

16 ἐν τούτῳ (καὶ *N(k)O*) αὐτὸς ἀσκῶ ἀπρόσκοπον συνείδησιν (ἔχειν *NK(o)*) πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους (διὰ *N(K)O*) (παντός. *N(k)O*)

And upon this account, I exercise myself to have always a conscience without offense toward God, and toward men.

17 δι᾽ ἐτῶν δὲ πλειόνων ἐλεημοσύνας ποιήσων εἰς τὸ ἔθνος μου παρεγενόμην καὶ προσφοράς,

Now, after several years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings:

18 ἐν (αἷς *N(k)O*) εὗρόν με ἡγνισμένον ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ οὐ μετὰ ὄχλου οὐδὲ μετὰ θορύβου, τινὲς δὲ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἀσίας Ἰουδαῖοι,

upon which some Asiatic Jews found me purified in the temple; neither with multitude nor with tumult;

19 οὓς (ἔδει *N(k)O*) ἐπὶ σοῦ παρεῖναι καὶ κατηγορεῖν, εἴ τι ἔχοιεν πρὸς ἐμέ.

who ought to have been present before you, and to accuse me, if they had anything against me:

20 ἢ αὐτοὶ οὗτοι εἰπάτωσαν (εἴ *k*) τί εὗρον (ἐν ἐμοὶ *ko*) ἀδίκημα στάντος μου ἐπὶ τοῦ συνεδρίου,

or let these themselves say, if, when I stood before the Sanhedrim,

21 ἢ περὶ μιᾶς ταύτης φωνῆς ἧς ἐκέκραξα ἐν αὐτοῖς ἑστὼς ὅτι περὶ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν ἐγὼ κρίνομαι σήμερον (ἐφ᾽ *N(k)O*) ὑμῶν.

they found any crime in me; unless it be with relation to this one word, which I expressed, when I stood among them--that, for the resurrection of the dead, I am judged by you this day.

22 (Ἀκούσας ταῦτα *K*) Ἀνεβάλετο δὲ αὐτοὺς ὁ Φῆλιξ ἀκριβέστερον εἰδὼς τὰ περὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ εἴπας· ὅταν Λυσίας ὁ χιλίαρχος καταβῇ, διαγνώσομαι τὰ καθ᾽ ὑμᾶς.

And when Felix heard these things, he put them off, saying, After I have been more accurately informed concerning this way, when Lysias, the commander, comes down, I will take cognizance of the affair between you.

23 διαταξάμενος (τε *k*) τῷ ἑκατοντάρχῃ τηρεῖσθαι (τὸν *k*) (αὐτὸν, *N(K)O*) ἔχειν τε ἄνεσιν καὶ μηδένα κωλύειν τῶν ἰδίων αὐτοῦ ὑπηρετεῖν (ἢ προσέρχεσθαι *K*) αὐτῷ.

And he commanded the centurion to keep Paul, and let him have liberty, and to hinder none of his friends from assisting him, or coming to him.

24 Μετὰ δὲ ἡμέρας τινὰς παραγενόμενος ὁ Φῆλιξ σὺν Δρουσίλλῃ τῇ (ἰδίᾳ *N(k)O*) γυναικὶ οὔσῃ Ἰουδαίᾳ μετεπέμψατο τὸν Παῦλον καὶ ἤκουσεν αὐτοῦ περὶ τῆς εἰς Χριστὸν (Ἰησοῦν *NO*) πίστεως.

And, after some days, Felix, coming the Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

25 διαλεγομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ περὶ δικαιοσύνης καὶ ἐγκρατείας καὶ τοῦ κρίματος τοῦ μέλλοντος (ἔσεσθαι *K*) ἔμφοβος γενόμενος ὁ Φῆλιξ ἀπεκρίθη· τὸ νῦν ἔχον πορεύου· καιρὸν δὲ μεταλαβὼν μετακαλέσομαί σε·

And he reasoned concerning righteousness and temperance, and judgment to come, Felix, trembling, answered, Go your way for this time, and I will take some future opportunity to call for you.

26 ἅμα (δὲ *k*) καὶ ἐλπίζων ὅτι χρήματα δοθήσεται αὐτῷ ὑπὸ τοῦ Παύλου (ὅπως λύσῃ αὐτόν, *K*) διὸ καὶ πυκνότερον αὐτὸν μεταπεμπόμενος ὡμίλει αὐτῷ.

And he hoped, also, that money would be given him by Paul, that he might be set at liberty: and, therefore, he sent the more frequently for him, and discoursed with him.

27 Διετίας δὲ πληρωθείσης ἔλαβεν διάδοχον ὁ Φῆλιξ Πόρκιον Φῆστον, θέλων τε (χάριτα *N(k)O*) καταθέσθαι τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις ὁ Φῆλιξ κατέλιπεν τὸν Παῦλον δεδεμένον.

Now, after two years were ended, Felix was succeeded by Portius Festus; and Felix, willing to ingratiate himself with the Jews, left Paul a prisoner.
