Προς Τιτον 1
1 Παύλος, δούλος Θεού, απόστολος δε Ιησού Χριστού κατά την πίστιν των εκλεκτών του Θεού και την επίγνωσιν της αληθείας της κατ' ευσέβειαν
Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the faith of God's elect and a real knowledge of the Truth that accords with godliness,
in hope of eternal life—which life God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time (aiōnios g166)
3 εφανέρωσε δε εν καιροίς ωρισμένοις τον λόγον αυτού διά του κηρύγματος, το οποίον ενεπιστεύθην εγώ κατ' επιταγήν του σωτήρος ημών Θεού,
but has manifested by a proclamation of His Word at chosen times, which word was entrusted to me by the command of our Savior God;
4 προς Τίτον, γνήσιον τέκνον κατά κοινήν ημών πίστιν· είη χάρις, έλεος, ειρήνη από Θεού Πατρός και Κυρίου Ιησού Χριστού του Σωτήρος ημών.
to Titus, a true son in a common faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from Father God and Sovereign Jesus Christ, our Savior.
5 Διά τούτο σε αφήκα εν Κρήτη, διά να διορθώσης τα ελλείποντα και να καταστήσης εν πάση πόλει πρεσβυτέρους, καθώς εγώ σε διέταξα,
I left you in Crete for this reason, that you should set in order the things that were lacking and appoint elders in every town as I directed you
6 όστις είναι ανέγκλητος, μιας γυναικός ανήρ, έχων τέκνα πιστά, μη κατηγορούμενα ως άσωτα ή ανυπότακτα.
—if a man is blameless, a one-woman man, having children who believe and who are not open to the charge of being wild or disobedient.
7 Διότι πρέπει ο επίσκοπος να ήναι ανέγκλητος, ως οικονόμος Θεού, μη αυθάδης, μη οργίλος, μη μέθυσος, μη πλήκτης, μη αισχροκερδής,
Because as an administrator under God the overseer must be blameless; not self-willed, not hotheaded, not given to wine, not a bully, not avaricious;
8 αλλά φιλόξενος, φιλάγαθος, σώφρων, δίκαιος, όσιος, εγκρατής,
but rather hospitable, a lover of what is good, prudent, just, holy, disciplined;
9 προσκεκολλημένος εις τον πιστόν λόγον της διδασκαλίας, διά να ήναι δυνατός και να προτρέπη διά της υγιαινούσης διδασκαλίας και να εξελέγχη τους αντιλέγοντας.
holding fast the trustworthy Word as taught, so that he may be competent both to exhort with the sound doctrine and to correct those who oppose it.
10 Διότι υπάρχουσι πολλοί και ανυπότακτοι ματαιολόγοι και φρενοπλάνοι, μάλιστα οι εκ της περιτομής,
Because there really are lots of rebels, loudmouths and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group,
11 τους οποίους πρέπει να αποστομόνωμεν, οίτινες ανατρέπουσιν ολοκλήρους οίκους, διδάσκοντες όσα δεν πρέπει, χάριν αισχρού κέρδους.
who must be silenced—they are ruining whole households, teaching things that they ought not, and for dishonest gain!
12 Είπε τις αυτών προφήτης ίδιος αυτών· Οι Κρήτες είναι πάντοτε ψεύσται, κακά θηρία, γαστέρες αργαί.
One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”
13 Η μαρτυρία αύτη είναι αληθινή. Διά την οποίαν αιτίαν έλεγχε αυτούς αποτόμως, διά να υγιαίνωσιν εν τη πίστει,
This testimony is true. Therefore correct them rigorously, that they may be sound in the faith,
14 και να μη προσέχωσιν εις Ιουδαϊκούς μύθους και εντολάς ανθρώπων αποστρεφομένων την αλήθειαν.
not paying attention to Jewish fables or to commands of men who are rejecting the truth.
15 Εις μεν τους καθαρούς πάντα είναι καθαρά· εις δε τους μεμιασμένους και απίστους ουδέν καθαρόν, αλλά και ο νούς αυτών και η συνείδησις είναι μεμιασμένα.
To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; in fact, both their minds and their consciences are defiled.
16 Ομολογούσιν ότι γνωρίζουσι τον Θεόν, με τα έργα όμως αρνούνται, βδελυκτοί όντες και απειθείς και εις παν έργον αγαθόν αδόκιμοι.
They profess to know God, but by their actions they deny Him, being detestable, disobedient and disqualified for any good work.
