Ψαλμοί 124

1 «Ωιδή των Αναβαθμών, του Δαβίδ.» Αν δεν ήτο ο Κύριος μεθ' ημών, ας είπη τώρα ο Ισραήλ·

A song of ascents. Of David. ‘Had it not been the Lord who was for us’ let Israel say

2 αν δεν ήτο ο Κύριος μεθ' ημών, ότε εσηκώθησαν άνθρωποι εφ' ημάς,

‘Had it not been the Lord who was for us when enemies rose against us,

3 ζώντας ήθελον μας καταπίει τότε, ενώ ο θυμός αυτών εφλέγετο εναντίον ημών·

then alive they’d have swallowed us up, when their anger was kindled against us.

4 Τότε τα ύδατα ήθελον μας καταποντίσει, ο χείμαρρος ήθελε περάσει επάνωθεν της ψυχής ημών·

Then the waters would’ve swept us away, and the torrent passed over us clean:

5 τότε τα ύδατα τα επηρμένα ήθελον περάσει επάνωθεν της ψυχής ημών.

then most sure would’ve passed over us clean the wild seething waters.’

6 Ευλογητός Κύριος, όστις δεν παρέδωκεν ημάς θήραμα εις τους οδόντας αυτών.

Blest be the Lord who has given us not to be torn by their teeth.

7 Η ψυχή ημών ελυτρώθη ως πτηνόν από της παγίδος των θηρευτών· η παγίς συνετρίβη, και ημείς ελυτρώθημεν.

We are like a bird just escaped from the snare of the fowler. The snare is broken, and we are escaped.

8 Η βοήθεια ημών είναι εν τω ονόματι του Κυρίου, του ποιήσαντος τον ουρανόν και την γην.

Our help is the name of the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth.
