Παροιμίαι 9
1 Η σοφία ωκοδόμησε τον οίκον αυτής, ελατόμησε τους στύλους αυτής επτά·
Wisedome hath built her house, and hewen out her seuen pillars.
2 έσφαξε τη σφάγια αυτής, εκέρασε τον οίνον αυτής, και ητοίμασε την τράπεζαν αυτής·
She hath killed her vitailes, drawen her wine, and prepared her table.
3 απέστειλε τας θεραπαίνας αυτής, κηρύττει επί των υψηλών τόπων της πόλεως,
She hath sent forth her maydens and cryeth vpon the highest places of the citie, saying,
4 Όστις είναι άφρων, ας στραφή εδώ· και, προς τους ενδεείς φρενών, λέγει προς αυτούς,
Who so is simple, let him come hither, and to him that is destitute of wisedome, she sayth,
5 Έλθετε, φάγετε από του άρτου μου, και πίετε από του οίνου τον οποίον εκέρασα·
Come, and eate of my meate, and drinke of the wine that I haue drawen.
6 αφήσατε την αφροσύνην και ζήσατε· και κατευθύνθητε εν τη οδώ της συνέσεως.
Forsake your way, ye foolish, and ye shall liue: and walke in the way of vnderstanding.
7 Ο νουθετών χλευαστήν λαμβάνει εις εαυτόν ατιμίαν· και ο ελέγχων τον ασεβή λαμβάνει εις εαυτόν μώμον.
He that reproueth a scorner, purchaseth to himselfe shame: and he that rebuketh the wicked, getteth himselfe a blot.
8 Μη έλεγχε χλευαστήν, διά να μη σε μισήση· έλεγχε σοφόν, και θέλει σε αγαπήσει.
Rebuke not a scorner, least he hate thee: but rebuke a wise man, and he will loue thee.
9 Δίδε αφορμήν εις τον σοφόν και θέλει γείνει σοφώτερος· δίδασκε τον δίκαιον και θέλει αυξηθή εις μάθησιν.
Giue admonition to the wise, and he will be the wiser: teache a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
10 Αρχή σοφίας φόβος Κυρίου· και επίγνωσις αγίων φρόνησις.
The beginning of wisedome is the feare of the Lord, and the knowledge of holy things, is vnderstanding.
11 Διότι δι' εμού αι ημέραι σου θέλουσι πολλαπλασιασθή, και έτη ζωής θέλουσι προστεθή εις σε.
For thy dayes shalbe multiplied by me, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe augmented.
12 Εάν γείνης σοφός, θέλεις είσθαι σοφός διά σεαυτόν· και εάν γείνης χλευαστής, συ μόνος θέλεις πάσχει.
If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thy selfe, and if thou be a scorner, thou alone shalt suffer.
13 Γυνή άφρων, θρασεία, ανόητος και μη γνωρίζουσα μηδέν·
A foolish woman is troublesome: she is ignorant, and knoweth nothing.
14 κάθηται εν τη θύρα της οικίας αυτής επί θρόνου, εν τοις υψηλοίς τόποις της πόλεως,
But she sitteth at the doore of her house on a seate in the hie places of the citie,
15 προσκαλούσα τους διαβάτας τους κατευθυνομένους εις την οδόν αυτών·
To call them that passe by the way, that go right on their way, saying,
16 όστις είναι άφρων, ας στραφή εδώ· και προς τον ενδεή φρενών, λέγει προς αυτόν,
Who so is simple, let him come hither, and to him that is destitute of wisedome, shee sayth also,
17 Τα κλοπιμαία ύδατα είναι γλυκέα, και ο κρύφιος άρτος είναι ηδύς.
Stollen waters are sweete, and hid bread is pleasant.
