Παροιμίαι 30
1 Οι λόγοι του Αγούρ, υιού του Ιακαί· τουτέστιν ο χρησμός, τον οποίον ο άνθρωπος ελάλησε προς τον Ιθιήλ, προς τον Ιθιήλ και τον Ούκαλ.
The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spoke to Ithiel, even to Ithiel and Ucal,
2 Βεβαίως εγώ είμαι ο αφρονέστερος των ανθρώπων, και φρόνησις ανθρώπου δεν υπάρχει εν εμοί·
Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.
3 και δεν έμαθον την σοφίαν, ούτε εξεύρω την γνώσιν των αγίων.
I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
4 Τις ανέβη εις τον ουρανόν και κατέβη; τις συνήγαγε τον άνεμον εν ταις χερσίν αυτού; τις εδέσμευσε τα ύδατα εν ιματίω; τις εστερέωσε πάντα τα άκρα της γης; τι το όνομα αυτού; και τι το όνομα του υιού αυτού, εάν εξεύρης;
Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the waters in a garment? who has established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if you can tell?
5 Πας λόγος Θεού είναι δεδοκιμασμένος· είναι ασπίς εις τους πεποιθότας επ' αυτόν.
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield to them that put their trust in him.
6 Μη προσθέσης εις τους λόγους αυτού· μήποτε σε εξελέγξη, και ευρεθής ψεύστης.
Add you not to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.
7 Δύο ζητώ παρά σού· μη αρνηθής ταύτα εις εμέ πριν αποθάνω.
Two things have I required of you; deny me them not before I die:
8 Ματαιότητα και λόγον ψευδή απομάκρυνε απ' εμού· πτωχείαν και πλούτον μη δώσης εις εμέ· τρέφε με με αυτάρκη τροφήν.
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9 Μήποτε χορτασθώ και σε αρνηθώ και είπω, Τις είναι ο Κύριος; ή μήποτε ευρεθείς πτωχός κλέψω και λάβω το όνομα του Θεού μου επί ματαίω.
Lest I be full, and deny you, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
10 Μη καταλάλει υπηρέτην προς τον κύριον αυτού· μήποτε σε καταρασθή και ευρεθής ένοχος.
Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.
11 Υπάρχει γενεά, ήτις καταράται τον πατέρα αυτής και δεν ευλογεί την μητέρα αυτής·
There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.
12 Υπάρχει γενεά καθαρά εις τους οφθαλμούς αυτής, αλλά δεν είναι πεπλυμένη από της ακαθαρσίας αυτής.
There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
13 Υπάρχει γενεά, της οποίας πόσον υψηλοί είναι οι οφθαλμοί και τα βλέφαρα αυτής επηρμένα.
There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14 Υπάρχει γενεά, της οποίας οι οδόντες είναι ρομφαίαι και οι μυλόδοντες μάχαιραι, διά να κατατρώγωσι τους πτωχούς της γης και τους ενδεείς εκ μέσου των ανθρώπων.
There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 Η βδέλλα έχει δύο θυγατέρας, αίτινες φωνάζουσι, Φέρε, φέρε. Τα τρία ταύτα δεν χορταίνουσι ποτέ, μάλιστα τέσσαρα δεν λέγουσι ποτέ, Αρκεί.
The horse leach has two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yes, four things say not, It is enough:
16 Ο άδης, και η στείρα μήτρα· η γη, ήτις δεν χορταίνει από ύδατος, και το πυρ, το οποίον δεν λέγει, Αρκεί. (Sheol h7585)
The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that says not, It is enough. (Sheol h7585)
17 Τον οφθαλμόν, όστις εμπαίζει τον πατέρα αυτού και καταφρονεί να υπακούση εις την μητέρα αυτού, οι κόρακες της φάραγγος θέλουσιν εκβάλει και οι νεοσσοί των αετών θέλουσι φάγει.
The eye that mocks at his father, and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 Τα τρία ταύτα είναι θαυμαστά εις εμέ, μάλιστα τέσσαρα δεν εννοώ·
There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I know not:
19 Τα ίχνη του αετού εις τον ουρανόν· τα ίχνη του όφεως επί του βράχου· τα ίχνη του πλοίου εν μέσω της θαλάσσης· και τα ίχνη του ανθρώπου εν τη νεότητι.
The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent on a rock; the way of a ship in the middle of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Τοιαύτη είναι η οδός της μοιχαλίδος γυναικός· τρώγει και σπογγίζει το στόμα αυτής, και λέγει, Δεν έπραξα ανομίαν.
Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.
21 Διά τρία η γη ταράττεται, μάλιστα διά τέσσαρα, τα οποία δεν δύναται να υποφέρη·
For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:
22 Διά τον δούλον, όταν βασιλεύση· και τον άφρονα, όταν χορτασθή άρτον·
For a servant when he reigns; and a fool when he is filled with meat;
23 διά την μισητήν γυναίκα, όταν υπανδρευθή· και την δούλην, όταν εκδιώξη την κυρίαν αυτής.
For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
24 Τα τέσσαρα ταύτα είναι ελάχιστα επί της γης, είναι όμως σοφώτατα·
There be four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
25 οι μύρμηκες, οίτινες είναι λαός αδύνατος αλλ' εν τω θέρει ετοιμάζουσι την τροφήν αυτών·
The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
26 οι χοιρογρύλλιοι, οίτινες είναι λαός ανίσχυρος αλλά κάμνουσι τους οίκους αυτών επί βράχου·
The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
27 αι ακρίδες, αίτινες δεν έχουσι βασιλέα αλλ' εκβαίνουσι πάσαι ομού κατά τάγματα·
The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
28 ο ασκάλαβος, όστις βαστάζεται εν ταις χερσίν αυτού, και διατρίβει εν τοις παλατίοις των βασιλέων.
The spider takes hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.
29 Τα τρία ταύτα βαδίζουσι καλώς, μάλιστα τέσσαρα περιπατούσιν ευπρεπώς·
There be three things which go well, yes, four are comely in going:
30 Ο λέων, όστις είναι ο ισχυρότερος των ζώων, και δεν στρέφει από προσώπου τινός·
A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turns not away for any;
31 Ο αλέκτωρ, ο τράγος έτι· και ο βασιλεύς, περικεκυκλωμένος υπό του λαού αυτού.
A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
32 Εάν έπραξας αφρόνως υψόνων σεαυτόν, και εάν εβουλεύθης κακόν, βάλε χείρα επί στόματος.
If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, lay your hand on your mouth.
33 Διότι όστις κτυπά το γάλα, εκβάλλει βούτυρον· και όστις εκθλίβει την ρίνα, εκβάλλει αίμα· και όστις ερεθίζει οργήν, εξάγει μάχας.
Surely the churning of milk brings forth butter, and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood: so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.
