Παροιμίαι 26
1 Καθώς η χιών εν τω θέρει και καθώς η βροχή εν τω θερισμώ, ούτως εις τον άφρονα η τιμή δεν αρμόζει.
As the snowe in the sommer, and as the raine in the haruest are not meete, so is honour vnseemely for a foole.
2 Ως περιφέρεται το στρουθίον, ως περιπετά η χελιδών, ούτως η άδικος κατάρα δεν θέλει επιφθάσει.
As the sparowe by flying, and the swallow by flying escape, so the curse that is causeles, shall not come.
3 Μάστιξ διά τον ίππον, κημός διά τον όνον, και ράβδος διά την ράχιν των αφρόνων.
Vnto the horse belongeth a whip, to the asse a bridle, and a rod to the fooles backe.
4 Μη αποκρίνου εις τον άφρονα κατά την αφροσύνην αυτού, διά να μη γείνης και συ όμοιος αυτού.
Answer not a foole according to his foolishnes, least thou also be like him.
5 Αποκρίνου εις τον άφρονα κατά την αφροσύνην αυτού, διά να μη ήναι σοφός εις τους οφθαλμούς αυτού.
Answere a foole according to his foolishnes, least he be wise in his owne conceite.
6 Όστις αποστέλλει μήνυμα διά χειρός του άφρονος, αποκόπτει τους πόδας αυτού και πίνει ζημίαν.
He that sendeth a message by the hand of a foole, is as he that cutteth off the feete, and drinketh iniquitie.
7 Ως τα σκέλη του χωλού κρέμονται ανωφελή, ούτως είναι και παροιμία εν τω στόματι των αφρόνων.
As they that lift vp the legs of the lame, so is a parable in a fooles mouth.
8 Ως ο δεσμεύων λίθον εις σφενδόνην, ούτως είναι όστις δίδει τιμήν εις τον άφρονα.
As the closing vp of a precious stone in an heape of stones, so is he that giueth glory to a foole.
9 Ως η άκανθα ωθουμένη εις την χείρα του μεθύσου, ούτως είναι η παροιμία εν τω στόματι των αφρόνων.
As a thorne standing vp in the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fooles.
10 Ο δυνάστης μιαίνει τα πάντα και μισθόνει τους άφρονας, μισθόνει και τους παραβάτας.
The excellent that formed all things, both rewardeth the foole and rewardeth the transgressers.
11 Ως ο κύων επιστρέφει εις τον εμετόν αυτού, ούτως ο άφρων επαναλαμβάνει την αφροσύνην αυτού.
As a dog turneth againe to his owne vomit, so a foole turneth to his foolishnes.
12 Είδες άνθρωπον νομίζοντα εαυτόν σοφόν; μάλλον ελπίς είναι εκ του άφρονος παρά εξ αυτού.
Seest thou a man wise in his owne conceite? more hope is of a foole then of him.
13 Ο οκνηρός λέγει, Λέων είναι εν τη οδώ, λέων εν ταις πλατείαις.
The slouthfull man sayth, A lyon is in the way: a lyon is in the streetes.
14 Ως η θύρα περιστρέφεται επί τας στρόφιγγας αυτής, ούτως ο οκνηρός επί την κλίνην αυτού.
As the doore turneth vpon his hinges, so doeth the slouthfull man vpon his bed.
15 Ο οκνηρός εμβάπτει την χείρα αυτού εις το τρυβλίον και βαρύνεται να επιστρέψη αυτήν εις το στόμα αυτού.
The slouthfull hideth his hand in his bosome, and it grieueth him to put it againe to his mouth.
16 Ο οκνηρός νομίζει εαυτόν σοφώτερον παρά επτά σοφούς γνωμοδότας.
The sluggard is wiser in his owne conceite, then seuen men that can render a reason.
17 Όστις διαβαίνων ανακατόνεται εις έριδα μη ανήκουσαν εις αυτόν, ομοιάζει τον πιάνοντα κύνα από των ωτίων.
He that passeth by and medleth with the strife that belongeth not vnto him, is as one that taketh a dog by the eares.
18 Ως ο μανιακός όστις ρίπτει φλόγας, βέλη και θάνατον,
As he that faineth himselfe mad, casteth fire brands, arrowes, and mortall things,
19 ούτως είναι ο άνθρωπος, όστις απατά τον πλησίον αυτού και λέγει, δεν έκαμον εγώ παίζων;
So dealeth the deceitfull man with his friend and sayth, Am not I in sport?
20 Όπου δεν είναι ξύλα, το πυρ σβύνεται· και όπου δεν είναι ψιθυριστής, η έρις ησυχάζει.
Without wood the fire is quenched, and without a talebearer strife ceaseth.
21 Οι άνθρακες διά την ανθρακιάν και τα ξύλα διά το πυρ, και ο φίλερις άνθρωπος διά να εξάπτη έριδας.
As ye cole maketh burning coles, and wood a fire, so the contentious man is apt to kindle strife.
22 Οι λόγοι του ψιθυριστού καταπίνονται ηδέως, και καταβαίνουσιν εις τα ενδόμυχα της κοιλίας.
The wordes of a tale bearer are as flatterings, and they goe downe into the bowels of the belly.
23 Τα ένθερμα χείλη μετά πονηράς καρδίας είναι ως σκωρία αργύρου επικεχρισμένη επί πήλινον αγγείον.
As siluer drosse ouerlayde vpon a potsheard, so are burning lips, and an euill heart.
24 Όστις μισεί, υποκρίνεται με τα χείλη αυτού, και μηχανεύεται δόλον εν τη καρδία αυτού.
He that hateth, will counterfaite with his lips, but in his heart he layeth vp deceite.
25 Όταν ομιλή χαριέντως, μη πίστευε αυτόν· διότι έχει επτά βδελύγματα εν τη καρδία αυτού.
Though he speake fauourably, beleeue him not: for there are seuen abominations in his heart.
26 Όστις σκεπάζει το μίσος διά δόλου, η πονηρία αυτού θέλει φανερωθή εν μέσω της συνάξεως.
Hatred may be couered by deceite: but the malice thereof shall be discouered in the congregation.
27 Όστις σκάπτει λάκκον, θέλει πέσει εις αυτόν· και ο λίθος θέλει επιστρέψει επί τον κυλίοντα αυτόν.
He that diggeth a pit shall fall therein, and he that rolleth a stone, it shall returne vnto him.
28 Η ψευδής γλώσσα μισεί τους υπ' αυτής καταθλιβομένους· και το απατηλόν στόμα εργάζεται καταστροφήν.
A false tongue hateth the afflicted, and a flattering mouth causeth ruine.
