Παροιμίαι 21
1 Η καρδία του βασιλέως είναι εν τη χειρί του Κυρίου ως ρεύματα υδάτων· όπου θέλει στρέφει αυτήν.
The Kings heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the riuers of waters: he turneth it whithersoeuer it pleaseth him.
2 Πάσαι αι οδοί του ανθρώπου φαίνονται ορθαί εις τους οφθαλμούς αυτού· πλην ο Κύριος σταθμίζει τας καρδίας.
Euery way of a man is right in his owne eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.
3 Να κάμνη τις δικαιοσύνην και κρίσιν είναι αρεστότερον εις τον Κύριον παρά θυσίαν.
To doe iustice and iudgement is more acceptable to the Lord then sacrifice.
4 Το επηρμένον όμμα και η αλαζών καρδία, ο λύχνος των ασεβών, είναι αμαρτία.
A hautie looke, and a proude heart, which is the light of the wicked, is sinne.
5 Οι λογισμοί του επιμελούς φέρουσι βεβαίως εις αφθονίαν· παντός δε προπετούς βεβαίως εις ένδειαν.
The thoughtes of the diligent doe surely bring abundance: but whosoeuer is hastie, commeth surely to pouertie.
6 Το αποκτάν θησαυρούς διά ψευδούς γλώσσης είναι ματαιότης άστατος των ζητούντων θάνατον.
The gathering of treasures by a deceitfull tongue is vanitie tossed to and from of them that seeke death.
7 Αι αρπαγαί των ασεβών θέλουσιν εξολοθρεύσει αυτούς· διότι αρνούνται να πράττωσι το δίκαιον.
The robberie of the wicked shall destroy them: for they haue refused to execute iudgement.
8 Η οδός του διεφθαρμένου ανθρώπου είναι σκολιά· του δε καθαρού το έργον είναι ευθές.
The way of some is peruerted and strange: but of the pure man, his worke is right.
9 Καλήτερον να κατοική τις εν γωνία δώματος, παρά εν οίκω ευρυχώρω μετά γυναικός φιλέριδος.
It is better to dwell in a corner of the house top, then with a contentious woman in a wide house.
10 Η ψυχή του ασεβούς επιθυμεί κακόν· ο πλησίον αυτού δεν ευρίσκει χάριν εις τους οφθαλμούς αυτού.
The soule of the wicked wisheth euill: and his neighbour hath no fauour in his eyes.
11 Όταν ο χλευαστής τιμωρήται, ο απλούς γίνεται σοφώτερος· και ο σοφός διδασκόμενος λαμβάνει γνώσιν.
When the scorner is punished, the foolish is wise: and when one instructeth the wise, he wil receiue knowledge.
12 Ο δίκαιος συλλογίζεται την οικίαν του ασεβούς, όταν οι ασεβείς κατακρημνίζωνται εις την κακίαν αυτών.
The righteous teacheth the house of the wicked: but God ouerthroweth the wicked for their euill.
13 Όστις εμφράττει τα ώτα αυτού εις την κραυγήν του πτωχού, θέλει φωνάξει και αυτός και δεν θέλει εισακουσθή.
He that stoppeth his eare at the crying of the poore, he shall also cry and not be heard.
14 Δώρον κρύφιον καταπραΰνει θυμόν· και χάρισμα εις τον κόλπον βαλλόμενον, οργήν ισχυράν.
A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a gift in the bosome great wrath.
15 Χαρά είναι εις τον δίκαιον να κάμνη κρίσιν· όλεθρος δε εις τους εργάτας της ανομίας.
It is ioye to the iust to doe iudgement: but destruction shalbe to the workers of iniquitie.
16 Άνθρωπος αποπλανώμενος από της οδού της συνέσεως θέλει κατασκηνώσει εν τη συνάξει των τεθανατωμένων.
A man that wandreth out of the way of wisdome, shall remaine in the congregation of the dead.
17 Ο αγαπών ευθυμίαν θέλει κατασταθή πένης· ο αγαπών οίνον και μύρα δεν θέλει πλουτήσει.
Hee that loueth pastime, shalbe a poore man: and he that loueth wine and oyle, shall not be riche.
18 Ο ασεβής θέλει είσθαι αντίλυτρον του δικαίου, και των ευθέων ο παραβάτης.
The wicked shalbe a ransome for the iust, and the transgressour for the righteous.
19 Καλήτερον να κατοική τις εν γη ερήμω παρά μετά γυναικός φιλέριδος και θυμώδους.
It is better to dwell in the wildernesse, then with a contentious and angry woman.
20 Θησαυρός πολύτιμος και μύρα ευρίσκονται εν τω οίκω του σοφού· ο δε άφρων άνθρωπος καταδαπανά αυτά.
In the house of the wise is a pleasant treasure and oyle: but a foolish man deuoureth it.
21 Ο θηρεύων δικαιοσύνην και έλεος θέλει ευρεί ζωήν, δικαιοσύνην και δόξαν.
He that followeth after righteousnes and mercy, shall finde life, righteousnes, and glory.
22 Ο σοφός εκπορθεί την πόλιν των δυνατών και καταβάλλει το οχύρωμα του θάρρους αυτής.
A wise man goeth vp into the citie of the mightie, and casteth downe the strength of the confidence thereof.
23 Όστις φυλάττει το στόμα αυτού και την γλώσσαν αυτού, φυλάττει την ψυχήν αυτού από στενοχωριών.
He that keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soule from afflictions.
24 Υπερήφανος και αλαζών χλευαστής καλείται, όστις πράττει μετά θυμού αλαζονείας.
Proude, hautie and scornefull is his name that worketh in his arrogancie wrath.
25 Αι επιθυμίαι του οκνηρού θανατόνουσιν αυτόν· διότι αι χείρες αυτού δεν θέλουσι να εργάζωνται·
The desire of the slouthfull slayeth him: for his hands refuse to worke.
26 επιθυμεί όλην την ημέραν επιθυμίας· ο δε δίκαιος δίδει και δεν φείδεται.
He coueteth euermore greedily, but the righteous giueth and spareth not.
27 Η θυσία των ασεβών είναι βδέλυγμα· πολλώ μάλλον όταν προσφέρωσιν αυτήν μετά πονηρίας.
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more when he bringeth it with a wicked minde?
28 Ο ψευδής μάρτυς θέλει απολεσθή· ο δε άνθρωπος όστις υπακούει θέλει λαλεί πάντοτε.
A false witnes shall perish: but hee that heareth, speaketh continually.
29 Ο ασεβής άνθρωπος σκληρύνει το πρόσωπον αυτού· αλλ' ο ευθύς κατευθύνει τας οδούς αυτού.
A wicked man hardeneth his face: but the iust, he will direct his way.
30 Δεν είναι σοφία ούτε σύνεσις ούτε βουλή εναντίον του Κυρίου.
There is no wisedome, neither vnderstanding, nor counsell against the Lord.
31 Ο ίππος ετοιμάζεται διά την ημέραν της μάχης· η σωτηρία όμως είναι παρά Κυρίου.
The horse is prepared against the day of battell: but saluation is of the Lord.
