Ἀριθμοί 23
1 Και είπεν ο Βαλαάμ προς τον Βαλάκ, Οικοδόμησόν μοι ενταύθα επτά βωμούς και ετοίμασόν μοι ενταύθα επτά μόσχους και επτά κριούς.
And Balaam said unto Balak: 'Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.'
2 Και έκαμεν ο Βαλάκ καθώς είπεν ο Βαλαάμ· και προσέφεραν ο Βαλάκ και ο Βαλαάμ μόσχον και κριόν εφ' έκαστον βωμόν.
And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.
3 Και είπεν ο Βαλαάμ προς τον Βαλάκ, Στήθι πλησίον του ολοκαυτώματός σου και εγώ θέλω υπάγει ίσως φανή ο Κύριος εις συνάντησίν μου· και ό, τι δείξη εις εμέ, τούτο θέλω σοι αναγγείλει. Και υπήγεν εις τόπον υψηλόν.
And Balaam said unto Balak: 'Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go; peradventure the LORD will come to meet me; and whatsoever He showeth me I will tell thee.' And he went to a bare height.
4 Και συνήντησεν ο Θεός τον Βαλαάμ· και είπε προς αυτόν, Ητοίμασα τους επτά βωμούς, και προσέφερα μόσχον και κριόν εφ' έκαστον βωμόν.
And God met Balaam; and he said unto Him: 'I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.'
5 Και έβαλεν ο Κύριος λόγον εις το στόμα του Βαλαάμ και είπεν, Επίστρεψον προς τον Βαλάκ, και ούτω θέλεις ειπεί.
And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said: 'Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.'
6 Και επέστρεψε προς αυτόν, και ιδού, ίστατο πλησίον του ολοκαυτώματος αυτού, αυτός και πάντες οι άρχοντες του Μωάβ.
And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt-offering, he, and all the princes of Moab.
7 Και ήρχισε την παραβολήν αυτού και είπε, Βαλάκ με έφερεν εκ της Αράμ, ο βασιλεύς του Μωάβ εκ των ορέων των προς ανατολάς, λέγων, Ελθέ, καταράσθητί μοι τον Ιακώβ· και ελθέ, αναθεμάτισον τον Ισραήλ.
And he took up his parable, and said: From Aram Balak bringeth me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East: 'Come, curse me Jacob, and come, execrate Israel.'
8 Πως να καταρασθώ τον οποίον ο Θεός δεν καταράται; ή πως να αναθεματίσω τον οποίον ο Κύριος δεν ανεθεμάτισε;
How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? And how shall I execrate, whom the LORD hath not execrated?
9 Διότι από της κορυφής των ορέων βλέπω αυτόν, και από των λόφων θεωρώ αυτόν· ιδού, λαός, όστις θέλει κατοικήσει μόνος, και δεν θέλει λογαριασθή μεταξύ των εθνών·
For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, it is a people that shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
10 τις δύναται να αριθμήση την άμμον του Ιακώβ, και τον αριθμόν του τετάρτου του Ισραήλ; είθε να αποθάνω κατά τον θάνατον των δικαίων, και το τέλος μου να ήναι όμοιον με το τέλος αυτού.
Who hath counted the dust of Jacob, or numbered the stock of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let mine end be like his!
11 Και είπεν ο Βαλάκ προς τον Βαλαάμ, Τι μοι έκαμες; διά να καταρασθής τους εχθρούς μου σε παρέλαβον· και ιδού, συ ευλογών ευλόγησας αυτούς.
And Balak said unto Balaam: 'What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.'
12 Ο δε αποκριθείς είπε, Δεν πρέπει να προσέξω ό, τι ο Κύριος έβαλεν εις το στόμα μου, τούτο να είπω;
And he answered and said: 'Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD putteth in my mouth?'
13 Και είπε προς αυτόν ο Βαλάκ, Ελθέ, παρακαλώ, μετ' εμού εις άλλον τόπον, όθεν θέλεις ιδεί αυτόν· μόνον την άκραν αυτού θέλεις ιδεί, το δε όλον αυτού δεν θέλεις ιδεί· και καταράσθητί μοι αυτόν εκείθεν.
And Balak said unto him: 'Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them; thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all; and curse me them from thence.'
14 Και έφερεν αυτόν εις την πεδιάδα Ζοφίμ επί την κορυφήν του Φασγά, και ωκοδόμησεν επτά βωμούς και προσέφερε μόσχον και κριόν εφ' έκαστον βωμόν.
And he took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.
15 Και είπε προς τον Βαλάκ, Στήθι αυτού πλησίον του ολοκαυτώματός σου και εγώ θέλω συναντήσει εκεί τον Κύριον.
And he said unto Balak: 'Stand here by thy burnt-offering, while I go toward a meeting yonder.'
16 Και συνήντησεν ο Κύριος τον Βαλαάμ, και έβαλε λόγον εις το στόμα αυτού και είπεν, Επίστρεψον προς τον Βαλάκ και ειπέ ούτω.
And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said: 'Return unto Balak, and thus shalt thou speak.'
17 Και ήλθε προς αυτόν· και ιδού, αυτός ίστατο πλησίον του ολοκαυτώματος αυτού και οι άρχοντες του Μωάβ μετ' αυτού. Και είπε προς αυτόν ο Βαλάκ, Τι ελάλησεν ο Κύριος;
And he came to him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him: 'What hath the LORD spoken?'
18 Και αρχίσας την παραβολήν αυτού είπε, Σηκώθητι, Βαλάκ, και άκουσον· δος ακρόασιν εις εμέ, συ ο υιός του Σεπφώρ·
And he took up his parable, and said: Arise, Balak, and hear; give ear unto me, thou son of Zippor:
19 ο Θεός δεν είναι άνθρωπος να ψευσθή, ούτε υιός ανθρώπου να μεταμεληθή· αυτός είπε και δεν θέλει εκτελέσει; ή ελάλησε και δεν θέλει εμμείνει;
God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: when He hath said, will He not do it? or when He hath spoken, will He not make it good?
20 Ιδού, ευλογίαν παρέλαβον· και ευλόγησε· και εγώ δεν δύναμαι να μεταστρέψω αυτήν.
Behold, I am bidden to bless; and when He hath blessed, I cannot call it back.
21 Δεν εθεώρησεν ανομίαν εις τον Ιακώβ, ουδέ είδε διαστροφήν εις τον Ισραήλ· Κύριος ο Θεός αυτού είναι μετ' αυτού, και αλαλαγμός βασιλέως είναι μεταξύ αυτών.
None hath beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath one seen perverseness in Israel; the LORD his God is with him, and the shouting for the King is among them.
22 Ο Θεός εξήγαγεν αυτούς εξ Αιγύπτου· έχουσιν ως δύναμιν μονοκέρωτος.
God who brought them forth out of Egypt is for them like the lofty horns of the wild-ox.
23 Βεβαίως ουδεμία γοητεία δεν ισχύει κατά του Ιακώβ, ουδέ μαντεία κατά του Ισραήλ· κατά καιρόν θέλει λαληθή περί του Ιακώβ και περί του Ισραήλ, Τι κατώρθωσεν ο Θεός.
For there is no enchantment with Jacob, neither is there any divination with Israel; now is it said of Jacob and of Israel: 'What hath God wrought!'
24 Ιδού, ο λαός θέλει σηκωθή ως λέων, και θέλει εγερθή ως σκύμνος· δεν θέλει κοιμηθή εωσού φάγη το θήραμα, και πίη το αίμα των πεφονευμένων.
Behold a people that riseth up as a lioness, and as a lion doth he lift himself up; he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.
25 Και είπεν ο Βαλάκ προς τον Βαλαάμ, Μήτε να καταρασθής αυτούς διόλου μήτε να ευλογήσης αυτούς διόλου.
And Balak said unto Balaam: 'Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.'
26 Αποκριθείς δε ο Βαλαάμ είπε προς τον Βαλάκ, δεν σε ελάλησα, λέγων, Παν ό, τι μοι είπη ο Κύριος, τούτο πρέπει να κάμω;
But Balaam answered and said unto Balak: 'Told not I thee, saying: All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?'
27 Και είπεν ο Βαλάκ προς τον Βαλαάμ, Ελθέ, παρακαλώ, θέλω σε φέρει εις άλλον τόπον, ίσως θέλει αρέσει εις τον Θεόν να μοι καταρασθής αυτόν εκείθεν.
And Balak said unto Balaam: 'Come now, I will take thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.'
28 Και έφερεν ο Βαλάκ τον Βαλαάμ επί την κορυφήν του Φεγώρ, το οποίον βλέπει προς Γεσιμών.
And Balak took Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh down upon the desert.
29 Και είπεν ο Βαλαάμ προς τον Βαλάκ, οικοδόμησόν μοι ενταύθα επτά βωμούς και ετοίμασόν μοι ενταύθα επτά μόσχους και επτά κριούς.
And Balaam said unto Balak: 'Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.'
30 και έκαμεν ο Βαλάκ ως είπεν ο Βαλαάμ και προσέφερε μόσχον και κριόν εφ' έκαστον βωμόν.
And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.
