Κατα Ματθαιον 9
1 Και εμβάς εις το πλοίον, διεπέρασε και ήλθεν εις την εαυτού πόλιν.
Accordingly He went on board, and crossing over came to His own town.
2 Και ιδού, έφερον προς αυτόν παραλυτικόν κείμενον επί κλίνης· και ιδών ο Ιησούς την πίστιν αυτών, είπε προς τον παραλυτικόν· Θάρρει, τέκνον· συγκεχωρημέναι είναι εις σε αι αμαρτίαι σου.
Here they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."
3 Και ιδού, τινές εκ των γραμματέων είπον καθ' εαυτούς· Ούτος βλασφημεί.
"Such language is impious," said some of the Scribes among themselves.
4 Και ιδών ο Ιησούς τους διαλογισμούς αυτών, είπε· Διά τι σεις διαλογίζεσθε πονηρά εν ταις καρδίαις σας;
Knowing their thoughts Jesus said, "Why are you cherishing evil thoughts in your hearts?
5 Διότι τι είναι ευκολώτερον, να είπω, Συγκεχωρημέναι είναι αι αμαρτίαι σου, ή να είπω, Εγέρθητι και περιπάτει;
Why, which is easier? --to say, 'Your sins are pardoned,' or to say 'Rise up and walk'?
6 Αλλά διά να γνωρίσητε ότι εξουσίαν έχει ο Υιός του ανθρώπου επί της γης να συγχωρή αμαρτίας, τότε λέγει προς τον παραλυτικόν· Εγερθείς σήκωσον την κλίνην σου και ύπαγε εις τον οίκόν σου.
But, to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to pardon sins" --He then says to the paralytic, "Rise, and take up your bed and go home."
7 Και εγερθείς ανεχώρησεν εις τον οίκον αυτού.
And he got up, and went off home.
8 Ιδόντες δε οι όχλοι, εθαύμασαν και εδόξασαν τον Θεόν, όστις έδωκε τοιαύτην εξουσίαν εις τους ανθρώπους.
And the crowds were awe-struck when they saw it, and ascribed the glory to God who had entrusted such power to a man.
9 Και διαβαίνων ο Ιησούς εκείθεν είδεν άνθρωπον καθήμενον εις το τελώνιον, Ματθαίον λεγόμενον, και λέγει προς αυτόν· Ακολούθει μοι. Και σηκωθείς ηκολούθησεν αυτόν.
Passing on thence Jesus saw a man called Matthew sitting at the Toll Office, and said to him, "Follow me." And he arose, and followed Him.
10 Και ενώ εκάθητο εις την τράπεζαν εν τη οικία, ιδού, πολλοί τελώναι και αμαρτωλοί ελθόντες συνεκάθηντο μετά του Ιησού και των μαθητών αυτού.
And while He was reclining at table, a large number of tax-gathers and notorious sinners were of the party with Jesus and His disciples.
11 Και ιδόντες οι Φαρισαίοι είπον προς τους μαθητάς αυτού· Διά τι ο Διδάσκαλός σας τρώγει μετά των τελωνών και αμαρτωλών;
The Pharisees noticed this, and they inquired of His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with the tax-gatherers and notorious sinners?"
12 Ο δε Ιησούς ακούσας είπε προς αυτούς· Δεν έχουσι χρείαν ιατρού οι υγιαίνοντες, αλλ' οι πάσχοντες.
He heard the question and replied, "It is not men in good health who require a doctor, but the sick.
13 Υπάγετε δε και μάθετε τι είναι, Έλεον θέλω και ουχί θυσίαν. Διότι δεν ήλθον διά να καλέσω δικαίους αλλά αμαρτωλούς εις μετάνοιαν.
But go and learn what this means, 'It is mercy that I desire, not sacrifice'; for I did not come to appeal to the righteous, but to sinners."
14 Τότε έρχονται προς αυτόν οι μαθηταί του Ιωάννου, λέγοντες· Διά τι ημείς και οι Φαρισαίοι νηστεύομεν πολλά, οι δε μαθηταί σου δεν νηστεύουσι;
At that time John's disciples came and asked Jesus, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?"
15 Και είπε προς αυτούς ο Ιησούς· Μήπως δύνανται οι υιοί του νυμφώνος να πενθώσιν, ενόσω είναι μετ' αυτών ο νυμφίος; θέλουσιν όμως ελθεί ημέραι, όταν αφαιρεθή απ' αυτών ο νυμφίος, και τότε θέλουσι νηστεύσει.
"Can the bridegroom's party mourn," He replied, "as long as the bridegroom is with them? But other days will come (when the Bridegroom has been taken from them) and then they will fast.
16 Και ουδείς βάλλει επίρραμμα αγνάφου πανίου επί ιμάτιον παλαιόν· διότι αφαιρεί το αναπλήρωμα αυτού από του ιματίου, και γίνεται σχίσμα χειρότερον.
No one ever mends an old cloak with a patch of newly woven cloth. Otherwise, the patch put on would tear away some of the old, and a worse hole would be made.
17 Ουδέ βάλλουσιν οίνον νέον εις ασκούς παλαιούς· ει δε μη, σχίζονται οι ασκοί, και ο οίνος εκχέεται και οι ασκοί φθείρονται· αλλά βάλλουσιν οίνον νέον εις ασκούς νέους, και αμφότερα διατηρούνται.
Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins would split, the wine would escape, and the skins be destroyed. But they put new wine into fresh skins, and both are saved."
18 Ενώ αυτός ελάλει ταύτα προς αυτούς, ιδού, άρχων τις ελθών προσεκύνει αυτόν, λέγων ότι η θυγάτηρ μου ετελεύτησε προ ολίγου· αλλά ελθέ και βάλε την χείρα σου επ' αυτήν και θέλει ζήσει.
While He was thus speaking, a Ruler came up and profoundly bowing said, "My daughter is just dead; but come and put your hand upon her and she will return to life."
19 Και σηκωθείς ο Ιησούς ηκολούθησεν αυτόν και οι μαθηταί αυτού.
And Jesus rose and followed him, as did also His disciples.
20 Και ιδού, γυνή αιμορροούσα δώδεκα έτη, πλησιάσασα όπισθεν ήγγισε το άκρον του ιματίου αυτού·
But a woman who for twelve years had been afflicted with haemorrhage came behind Him and touched the tassel of His cloak;
21 διότι έλεγε καθ' εαυτήν, Εάν μόνον εγγίσω το ιμάτιον αυτού, θέλω σωθή.
for she said to herself, "If I but touch His cloak, I shall be cured."
22 Ο δε Ιησούς επιστραφείς και ιδών αυτήν είπε· Θάρρει, θύγατερ· η πίστις σου σε έσωσε. Και εσώθη η γυνή από της ώρας εκείνης.
And Jesus turned and saw her, and said, "Take courage, daughter; your faith has cured you." And the woman was restored to health from that moment.
23 Και ελθών ο Ιησούς εις την οικίαν του άρχοντος και ιδών τους αυλητάς και τον όχλον θορυβούμενον,
Entering the Ruler's house, Jesus saw the flute-players and the crowd loudly wailing,
24 λέγει προς αυτούς· Αναχωρείτε· διότι δεν απέθανε το κοράσιον, αλλά κοιμάται. Και κατεγέλων αυτόν.
and He said, "Go out of the room; the little girl is not dead, but asleep." And they laughed at Him.
25 Ότε δε εξεβλήθη ο όχλος, εισελθών επίασε την χείρα αυτής, και εσηκώθη το κοράσιον.
When however the place was cleared of the crowd, Jesus went in, and on His taking the little girl by the hand, she rose up.
26 Και διεδόθη η φήμη αύτη εις όλην την γην εκείνην.
And the report of this spread throughout all that district.
27 Και ενώ ανεχώρει εκείθεν ο Ιησούς, ηκολούθησαν αυτόν δύο τυφλοί, κράζοντες και λέγοντες· Ελέησον ημάς, υιέ του Δαβίδ.
As Jesus passed on, two blind men followed Him, shouting and saying, "Pity us, Son of David."
28 Και ότε εισήλθεν εις την οικίαν, επλησίασαν εις αυτόν οι τυφλοί, και λέγει προς αυτούς ο Ιησούς· Πιστεύετε ότι δύναμαι να κάμω τούτο; Λέγουσι προς αυτόν· Ναι, Κύριε.
And when He had gone indoors, they came to Him. "Do you believe that I can do this?" He asked them. "Yes, Sir," they replied.
29 Τότε ήγγισε τους οφθαλμούς αυτών, λέγων· Κατά την πίστιν σας ας γείνη εις εσάς.
So He touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith let it be to you."
30 Και ηνοίχθησαν αυτών οι οφθαλμοί· προσέταξε δε αυτούς εντόνως ο Ιησούς, λέγων· Προσέχετε, ας μη εξεύρη τούτο μηδείς.
Then their eyes were opened. And assuming a stern tone Jesus said to them, "Be careful to let no one know."
31 Αλλ' εκείνοι εξελθόντες διεφήμισαν αυτόν εν όλη τη γη εκείνη.
But they went out and published His fame in all that district.
32 Ενώ δε αυτοί εξήρχοντο, ιδού, έφεραν προς αυτόν άνθρωπον κωφόν δαιμονιζόμενον·
And as they were leaving His presence a dumb demoniac was brought to Him.
33 και αφού εξεβλήθη το δαιμόνιον, ελάλησεν ο κωφός, και εθαύμασαν οι όχλοι, λέγοντες ότι ποτέ δεν εφάνη τοιούτον εν τω Ισραήλ.
When the demon was expelled, the dumb man could speak. And the crowds exclaimed in astonishment, "Never was such a thing seen in Israel."
34 Οι δε Φαρισαίοι έλεγον· Διά του άρχοντος των δαιμονίων εκβάλλει τα δαιμόνια.
But the Pharisees maintained, "It is by the power of the Prince of the demons that he drives out the demons."
35 Και περιήρχετο ο Ιησούς τας πόλεις πάσας και τας κώμας, διδάσκων εν ταις συναγωγαίς αυτών και κηρύττων το ευαγγέλιον της βασιλείας και θεραπεύων πάσαν νόσον και πάσαν ασθένειαν εν τω λαώ.
And Jesus continued His circuits through all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom, and curing every kind of disease and infirmity.
36 Ιδών δε τους όχλους, εσπλαγχνίσθη δι' αυτούς, διότι ήσαν εκλελυμένοι και εσκορπισμένοι ως πρόβατα μη έχοντα ποιμένα.
And when He saw the crowds He was touched with pity for them, because they were distressed and were fainting on the ground like sheep which have no shepherd.
37 Τότε λέγει προς τους μαθητάς αυτού· Ο μεν θερισμός πολύς, οι δε εργάται ολίγοι·
Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is abundant, but the reapers are few;
38 παρακαλέσατε λοιπόν τον κύριον του θερισμού, διά να αποστείλη εργάτας εις τον θερισμόν αυτού.
therefore entreat the Owner of the Harvest to send out reapers into His fields."
