Κατα Ματθαιον 23
1 Τότε ο Ιησούς ελάλησε προς τους όχλους και προς τους μαθητάς αυτού,
Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 λέγων· Επί της καθέδρας του Μωϋσέως εκάθησαν οι γραμματείς και οι Φαρισαίοι.
Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:
3 Πάντα λοιπόν όσα αν είπωσι προς εσάς να φυλάττητε, φυλάττετε και πράττετε, κατά δε τα έργα αυτών μη πράττετε· επειδή λέγουσι και δεν πράττουσι.
All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, [that] observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 Διότι δένουσι φορτία βαρέα και δυσβάστακτα και επιθέτουσιν επί τους ώμους των ανθρώπων, δεν θέλουσιν όμως ουδέ διά του δακτύλου αυτών να κινήσωσιν αυτά.
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay [them] on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 Πράττουσι δε πάντα τα έργα αυτών διά να βλέπωνται υπό των ανθρώπων. Και πλατύνουσι τα φυλακτήρια αυτών και μεγαλύνουσι τα κράσπεδα των ιματίων αυτών,
But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 και αγαπώσι τον πρώτον τόπον εν τοις δείπνοις και τας πρωτοκαθεδρίας εν ταις συναγωγαίς
And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 και τους ασπασμούς εν ταις αγοραίς και να ονομάζωνται υπό των ανθρώπων Ραββί, Ραββί·
And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 σεις όμως μη ονομασθήτε Ραββί· διότι εις είναι ο καθηγητής σας, ο Χριστός· πάντες δε σεις αδελφοί είσθε.
But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, [even] Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 Και πατέρα σας μη ονομάσητε επί της γής· διότι εις είναι ο Πατήρ σας, ο εν τοις ουρανοίς.
And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Μηδέ ονομασθήτε καθηγηταί· διότι εις είναι ο καθηγητής σας, ο Χριστός.
Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, [even] Christ.
11 Ο δε μεγαλήτερος από σας θέλει είσθαι υπηρέτης σας.
But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 Όστις δε υψώση εαυτόν θέλει ταπεινωθή, και όστις ταπεινώση εαυτόν θέλει υψωθή.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 Αλλ' ουαί εις εσάς, γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι, υποκριταί, διότι κατατρώγετε τας οικίας των χηρών και τούτο επί προφάσει ότι κάμνετε μακράς προσευχάς· διά τούτο θέλετε λάβει μεγαλητέραν καταδίκην.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in [yourselves], neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 Ουαί εις εσάς, γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι, υποκριταί, διότι κλείετε την βασιλείαν των ουρανών έμπροσθεν των ανθρώπων· επειδή σεις δεν εισέρχεσθε ουδέ τους εισερχομένους αφίνετε να εισέλθωσιν.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 Ουαί εις εσάς, γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι, υποκριταί, διότι περιέρχεσθε την θάλασσαν και την ξηράν διά να κάμητε ένα προσήλυτον, και όταν γείνη, κάμνετε αυτόν υιόν της γεέννης διπλότερον υμών. (Geenna g1067)
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 Ουαί εις εσάς, οδηγοί τυφλοί, οι λέγοντες· Όστις ομόση εν τω ναώ είναι ουδέν, όστις όμως ομόση εν τω χρυσώ του ναού, υποχρεούται.
Woe unto you, [ye] blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17 Μωροί και τυφλοί· διότι τις είναι μεγαλήτερος, ο χρυσός ή ο ναός ο αγιάζων τον χρυσόν;
[Ye] fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 Καί· Όστις ομόση εν τω θυσιαστηρίω, είναι ουδέν, όστις όμως ομόση εν τω δώρω τω επάνω αυτού, υποχρεούται.
And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19 Μωροί και τυφλοί· διότι τι είναι μεγαλήτερον, το δώρον ή το θυσιαστήριον το αγιάζον το δώρον;
[Ye] fools and blind: for whether [is] greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20 Ο ομόσας λοιπόν εν τω θυσιαστηρίω ομνύει εν αυτώ και εν πάσι τοις επάνω αυτού·
Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21 και ο ομόσας εν τω ναώ ομνύει εν αυτώ και εν τω κατοικούντι αυτόν.
And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22 Και ο ομόσας εν τω ουρανώ, ομνύει εν τω θρόνω του Θεού και εν τω καθημένω επάνω αυτού.
And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23 Ουαί εις εσάς, γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι, υποκριταί, διότι αποδεκατίζετε το ηδύοσμον και το άνηθον και το κύμινον, και αφήκατε τα βαρύτερα του νόμου, την κρίσιν και τον έλεον και την πίστιν· ταύτα έπρεπε να πράττητε και εκείνα να μη αφίνητε.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24 Οδηγοί τυφλοί, οίτινες διυλίζετε τον κώνωπα, την δε κάμηλον καταπίνετε.
[Ye] blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 Ουαί εις εσάς, γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι, υποκριταί, διότι καθαρίζετε το έξωθεν του ποτηρίου και του πινακίου, έσωθεν όμως γέμουσιν εξ αρπαγής και ακρασίας.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 Φαρισαίε τυφλέ, καθάρισον πρώτον το εντός του ποτηρίου και του πινακίου, διά να γείνη και το εκτός αυτών καθαρόν.
[Thou] blind Pharisee, cleanse first that [which is] within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Ουαί εις εσάς, γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι υποκριταί, διότι ομοιάζετε με τάφους ασβεστωμένους, οίτινες έξωθεν μεν φαίνονται ωραίοι, έσωθεν όμως γέμουσιν οστέων νεκρών και πάσης ακαθαρσίας.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead [men’s] bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Ούτω και σεις έξωθεν μεν φαίνεσθε εις τους ανθρώπους δίκαιοι, έσωθεν όμως είσθε πλήρεις υποκρίσεως και ανομίας.
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Ουαί εις εσάς, γραμματείς και Φαρισαίοι υποκριταί· διότι οικοδομείτε τους τάφους των προφητών και στολίζετε τα μνημεία των δικαίων,
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 και λέγετε· Εάν ήμεθα εν ταις ημέραις των πατέρων ημών, δεν ηθέλομεν είσθαι συγκοινωνοί αυτών εν τω αίματι των προφητών.
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Ώστε μαρτυρείτε εις εαυτούς ότι είσθε υιοί των φονευσάντων τους προφήτας.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 Αναπληρώσατε και σεις το μέτρον των πατέρων σας.
Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
[Ye] serpents, [ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? (Geenna g1067)
34 Διά τούτο ιδού, εγώ αποστέλλω προς εσάς προφήτας και σοφούς και γραμματείς, και εξ αυτών θέλετε θανατώσει και σταυρώσει, και εξ αυτών θέλετε μαστιγώσει εν ταις συναγωγαίς σας και διώξει από πόλεως εις πόλιν,
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and [some] of them ye shall kill and crucify; and [some] of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute [them] from city to city:
35 διά να έλθη εφ' υμάς παν αίμα δίκαιον εκχυνόμενον επί της γης από του αίματος Άβελ του δικαίου έως του αίματος Ζαχαρίου υιού Βαραχίου, τον οποίον εφονεύσατε μεταξύ του ναού και του θυσιαστηρίου.
That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Αληθώς σας λέγω, Πάντα ταύτα θέλουσιν ελθεί επί την γενεάν ταύτην.
Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 Ιερουσαλήμ, Ιερουσαλήμ, η φονεύουσα τους προφήτας και λιθοβολούσα τους απεσταλμένους προς σέ· ποσάκις ηθέλησα να συνάξω τα τέκνα σου καθ' ον τρόπον συνάγει η όρνις τα ορνίθια εαυτής υπό τας πτέρυγας, και δεν ηθελήσατε.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not!
38 Ιδού, αφίνεται εις εσάς ο οίκός σας έρημος.
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 Διότι σας λέγω, δεν θέλετε με ιδεί εις το εξής, εωσού είπητε, Ευλογημένος ο ερχόμενος εν ονόματι Κυρίου.
For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
