Κατα Ματθαιον 11
1 Και ότε ετελείωσεν ο Ιησούς διατάττων εις τους δώδεκα μαθητάς αυτού, μετέβη εκείθεν διά να διδάσκη και να κηρύττη εν ταις πόλεσιν αυτών.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of his charge to his twelve disciples, that he departed thence, to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Ο δε Ιωάννης, ακούσας εν τω δεσμωτηρίω τα έργα του Χριστού, έπεμψε δύο των μαθητών αυτού,
And John, having heard in the prison of the works of Christ, sent by his disciples,
3 και είπε προς αυτόν· Συ είσαι ο ερχόμενος, ή άλλον προσδοκώμεν;
and said to him, Art thou he that is to come, or are we to look for another?
4 Και αποκριθείς ο Ιησούς είπε προς αυτούς· Υπάγετε και απαγγείλατε προς τον Ιωάννην όσα ακούετε και βλέπετε·
And Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John what ye hear and see.
5 τυφλοί αναβλέπουσι και χωλοί περιπατούσι, λεπροί καθαρίζονται και κωφοί ακούουσι, νεκροί εγείρονται και πτωχοί ευαγγελίζονται·
The blind receive sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and to the poor good tidings are brought;
6 και μακάριος είναι όστις δεν σκανδαλισθή εν εμοί.
and blessed is he, whoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.
7 Ενώ δε ούτοι ανεχώρουν, ήρχισεν ο Ιησούς να λέγη προς τους όχλους περί του Ιωάννου· Τι εξήλθετε εις την έρημον να ίδητε; κάλαμον υπό ανέμου σαλευόμενον;
And, as these were going, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? the reeds shaken by the wind?
8 Αλλά τι εξήλθετε να ίδητε; άνθρωπον ενδεδυμένον μαλακά ιμάτια; ιδού, οι τα μαλακά φορούντες εν τοις οίκοις των βασιλέων ευρίσκονται.
But why did ye go out? to see a man clothed in soft raiment? Lo! they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9 Αλλά τι εξήλθετε να ίδητε; προφήτην; ναι, σας λέγω, και περισσότερον προφήτου.
But why did ye go out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
10 Διότι ούτος είναι, περί του οποίου είναι γεγραμμένον· Ιδού, εγώ αποστέλλω τον άγγελόν μου προ προσώπου σου, όστις θέλει κατασκευάσει την οδόν σου έμπροσθέν σου.
For this is he of whom it is written: “Lo! I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.”
11 Αληθώς σας λέγω, μεταξύ των γεννηθέντων υπό γυναικών δεν ηγέρθη μεγαλήτερος Ιωάννου του βαπτιστού· πλην ο μικρότερος εν τη βασιλεία των ουρανών είναι μεγαλήτερος αυτού.
Truly do I say to you, Among those born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist. But he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 Από δε των ημερών Ιωάννου του βαπτιστού έως του νυν η βασιλεία των ουρανών βιάζεται, και οι βιασταί αρπάζουσιν αυτήν.
And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent seize upon it.
13 Διότι πάντες οι προφήται και ο νόμος έως Ιωάννου προεφήτευσαν.
For all the Prophets and the Law, until John, prophesied.
14 Και αν θέλητε να δεχθήτε τούτο, αυτός είναι ο Ηλίας, όστις έμελλε να έλθη.
And if ye are willing to receive it, he is the Elijah who was to come.
15 Ο έχων ώτα διά να ακούη ας ακούη.
He that hath ears, let him hear.
16 Αλλά με τι να ομοιώσω την γενεάν ταύτην; είναι ομοία με παιδάρια καθήμενα εν ταις αγοραίς και φωνάζοντα προς τους συντρόφους αυτών,
But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the markets, who call to their fellows,
17 και λέγοντα· Αυλόν σας επαίξαμεν, και δεν εχορεύσατε, σας εθρηνωδήσαμεν, και δεν εκλαύσατε.
and say, We piped to you, and ye did not dance; we sung a dirge, and ye did not lament.
18 Διότι ήλθεν ο Ιωάννης μήτε τρώγων μήτε πίνων, και λέγουσι· Δαιμόνιον έχει.
For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say, He hath a demon.
19 Ήλθεν ο Υιός του ανθρώπου τρώγων και πίνων, και λέγουσιν· Ιδού, άνθρωπος φάγος και οινοπότης, φίλος τελωνών και αμαρτωλών. Και εδικαιώθη η σοφία από των τέκνων αυτής.
The Son of man came eating and drinking; and they say, Behold, a glutton and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! But wisdom is justified by her works.
20 Τότε ήρχισε να ονειδίζη τας πόλεις εν αις έγειναν τα πλειότερα θαύματα αυτού, διότι δεν μετενόησαν·
Then he began to upbraid the cities wherein most of his miracles were done, because they did not repent.
21 Ουαί εις σε, Χοραζίν, ουαί εις σε, Βηθσαϊδάν· διότι εάν τα θαύματα τα γενόμενα εν υμίν εγίνοντο εν τη Τύρω και Σιδώνι προ πολλού ήθελον μετανοήσει εν σάκκω και σποδώ.
Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee, Bethsaida! for if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 Πλην σας λέγω εις την Τύρον και Σιδώνα ελαφροτέρα θέλει είσθαι η τιμωρία εν ημέρα κρίσεως παρά εις εσάς.
But I say to you, It will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23 Και συ, Καπερναούμ, η υψωθείσα έως του ουρανού, θέλεις καταβιβασθή έως άδου· διότι εάν τα θαύματα τα γενόμενα εν σοι εγίνοντο εν Σοδόμοις, ήθελον μείνει μέχρι της σήμερον. (Hadēs g86)
And thou, Capernaum! shalt thou be exalted to heaven? Thou shalt be brought down to the underworld; for if the miracles which were done in thee had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. (Hadēs g86)
24 Πλην σας λέγω, ότι εις την γην των Σοδόμων ελαφροτέρα θέλει είσθαι η τιμωρία εν ημέρα κρίσεως παρά εις σε.
But I say to you, that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25 Εν εκείνω τω καιρώ αποκριθείς ο Ιησούς είπε· Δοξάζω σε, Πάτερ, κύριε του ουρανού και της γης, ότι απέκρυψας ταύτα από σοφών και συνετών και απεκάλυψας αυτά εις νήπια·
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that, though thou didst hide these things from the wise and discerning, thou didst reveal them to babes.
26 ναι, ω Πάτερ, διότι ούτως έγεινεν αρεστόν έμπροσθέν σου.
Yea, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27 Πάντα παρεδόθησαν εις εμέ από του Πατρός μου· και ουδείς γινώσκει τον Υιόν ει μη ο Πατήρ· ουδέ τον Πατέρα γινώσκει τις ειμή ο Υιός και εις όντινα θέλει ο Υιός να αποκαλύψη αυτόν.
All things were delivered to me by my Father; and no one knoweth the Son but the Father; nor doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it is the will of the Son to reveal him.
28 Έλθετε προς με, πάντες οι κοπιώντες και πεφορτισμένοι, και εγώ θέλω σας αναπαύσει.
Come to me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Άρατε τον ζυγόν μου εφ' υμάς και μάθετε απ' εμού, διότι πράος είμαι και ταπεινός την καρδίαν, και θέλετε ευρεί ανάπαυσιν εν ταις ψυχαίς υμών·
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest for your souls.
30 διότι ο ζυγός μου είναι καλός και το φορτίον μου ελαφρόν.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
