Κατα Μαρκον 4
1 Και πάλιν ήρχισε να διδάσκη πλησίον της θαλάσσης· και συνήχθη προς αυτόν όχλος πολύς, ώστε εισελθών εις το πλοίον εκάθητο εις την θάλασσαν· και πας ο όχλος ήτο επί της γης πλησίον της θαλάσσης.
Once more He began to teach by the side of the Lake, and a vast multitude of people came together to listen to Him. He therefore went on board the boat and sat there, a little way from the land; and all the people were on the shore close to the water.
2 Και εδίδασκεν αυτούς διά παραβολών πολλά, και έλεγε προς αυτούς εν τη διδαχή αυτού·
Then He proceeded to teach them many lessons in figurative language; and in His teaching He said,
3 Ακούετε· ιδού, εξήλθεν ο σπείρων διά να σπείρη.
"Listen: the sower goes out to sow.
4 Και ενώ έσπειρεν, άλλο μεν έπεσε παρά την οδόν, και ήλθον τα πετεινά του ουρανού και κατέφαγον αυτό.
As he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and the birds come and peck it up.
5 Άλλο δε έπεσεν επί το πετρώδες, όπου δεν είχε γην πολλήν, και ευθύς ανεφύη, διότι δεν είχε βάθος γης,
Some falls on the rocky ground where it finds but little earth, and it shoots up quickly because it has no depth of soil;
6 και ότε ανέτειλεν ο ήλιος εκαυματίσθη, και επειδή δεν είχε ρίζαν εξηράνθη.
but when the sun is risen, it is scorched, and through having no root it withers away.
7 Και άλλο έπεσεν εις τας ακάνθας, και ανέβησαν αι άκανθαι και συνέπνιξαν αυτό, και καρπόν δεν έδωκε·
Some, again, falls among the thorns; and the thorns spring up and stifle it, so that it yields no crop.
8 και άλλο έπεσεν εις την γην την καλήν και έδιδε καρπόν αναβαίνοντα και αυξάνοντα, και έδωκεν εν τριάκοντα και εν εξήκοντα και εν εκατόν.
But some of the seed falls into good ground, and gives a return: it comes up and increases, and yields thirty, sixty, or a hundred-fold."
9 Και έλεγε προς αυτούς· Ο έχων ώτα διά να ακούη, ας ακούη.
"Listen," He added, "every one who has ears to listen with!"
10 Ότε δε έμεινε καταμόνας, ηρώτησαν αυτόν οι περί αυτόν μετά των δώδεκα περί της παραβολής.
When He was alone, the Twelve and the others who were about Him requested Him to explain His figurative language.
11 Και έλεγε προς αυτούς· Εις εσάς εδόθη να γνωρίσητε το μυστήριον της βασιλείας του Θεού· εις εκείνους δε τους έξω διά παραβολών τα πάντα γίνονται,
"To you," He replied, "has been entrusted the secret truth concerning the Kingdom of God; but to those others outside your number all this is spoken in figurative language;
12 διά να βλέπωσι βλέποντες και να μη ίδωσι, και να ακούωσιν ακούοντες και να μη νοήσωσι, μήποτε επιστρέψωσι και συγχωρηθώσιν εις αυτούς τα αμαρτήματα.
that "'They may look and look but not see, and listen and listen but not understand, lest perchance they should return and be pardoned.'"
13 Και λέγει προς αυτούς· Δεν εξεύρετε την παραβολήν ταύτην, και πως θέλετε γνωρίσει πάσας τας παραβολάς;
"Do you all miss the meaning of this parable?" He added; "how then will you understand the rest of my parables?"
14 Ο σπείρων τον λόγον σπείρει.
"What the sower sows is the Message.
15 Οι δε παρά την οδόν είναι ούτοι, εις τους οποίους σπείρεται ο λόγος, και όταν ακούσωσιν, ευθύς έρχεται ο Σατανάς, και αφαιρεί τον λόγον τον εσπαρμένον εν ταις καρδίαις αυτών.
Those who receive the seed by the way-side are those in whom the Message is sown, but, when they have heard it, Satan comes at once and carries away the Message sown in them.
16 Και ομοίως οι επί τα πετρώδη σπειρόμενοι είναι ούτοι, οίτινες όταν ακούσωσι τον λόγον, ευθύς μετά χαράς δέχονται αυτόν,
In the same way those who receive the seed on the rocky places are those who, when they have heard the Message, at once accept it joyfully,
17 δεν έχουσιν όμως ρίζαν εν εαυτοίς, αλλ' είναι πρόσκαιροι· έπειτα όταν γείνη θλίψις ή διωγμός διά τον λόγον, ευθύς σκανδαλίζονται.
but they have no root within them. They last for a time; then, when suffering or persecution comes because of the Message, they are immediately overthrown.
18 Και οι εις τας ακάνθας σπειρόμενοι είναι ούτοι, οίτινες ακούουσι τον λόγον,
Others there are who receive the seed among the thorns: these are they who have heard the Message,
19 και αι μέριμναι του αιώνος τούτου και η απάτη του πλούτου και αι επιθυμίαι των άλλων πραγμάτων εισερχόμεναι συμπνίγουσι τον λόγον, και γίνεται άκαρπος. (aiōn g165)
but worldly cares and the deceitfulness of wealth and the excessive pursuit of other objects come in and stifle the Message, and it becomes unfruitful. (aiōn g165)
20 Και οι εις την γην την καλήν σπαρέντες είναι ούτοι, οίτινες ακούουσι τον λόγον και παραδέχονται και καρποφορούσιν εν τριάκοντα και εν εξήκοντα και εν εκατόν.
Those, on the other hand, who have received the seed on the good ground, are all who hear the Message and welcome it, and yield a return of thirty, sixty, or a hundred fold."
21 Και έλεγε προς αυτούς· Μήπως ο λύχνος έρχεται διά να τεθή υπό τον μόδιον ή υπό την κλίνην; ουχί διά να τεθή επί τον λυχνοστάτην;
He went on to say, "Is the lamp brought in in order to be put under the bushel or under the bed? Is it not rather in order that it may be placed on the lampstand?
22 διότι δεν είναι τι κρυπτόν, το οποίον δεν θέλει φανερωθή, ουδ' έγεινε τι απόκρυφον, το οποίον δεν θέλει ελθεί εις το φανερόν.
Why, there is nothing hidden except with a view to its being ultimately disclosed, nor has anything been made a secret but that it may at last come to light.
23 Όστις έχει ώτα διά να ακούη, ας ακούη.
Listen, every one who has ears to listen with!"
24 Και έλεγε προς αυτούς· Προσέχετε τι ακούετε. Με οποίον μέτρον μετρείτε, θέλει μετρηθή εις εσάς, και θέλει γείνει προσθήκη εις εσάς τους ακούοντας.
He also said to them, "Take care what you hear. With what measure you measure, it will be measured to you, and that with interest.
25 Διότι όστις έχει, θέλει δοθή εις αυτόν· και όστις δεν έχει, και εκείνο το οποίον έχει θέλει αφαιρεθή απ' αυτού.
For those who have will have more given them; and from those who have not, even what they have will be taken away."
26 Και έλεγεν· Ούτως είναι η βασιλεία του Θεού, ως εάν άνθρωπος ρίψη τον σπόρον επί της γης,
Another saying of His was this: "The Kingdom of God is as if a man scattered seed over the ground:
27 και κοιμάται και σηκόνηται νύκτα και ημέραν, και ο σπόρος βλαστάνη και αυξάνη καθώς αυτός δεν εξεύρει.
he spends days and nights, now awake, now asleep, while the seed sprouts and grows tall, he knows not how.
28 Διότι αφ' εαυτής η γη καρποφορεί, πρώτον χόρτον, έπειτα αστάχυον, έπειτα πλήρη σίτον εν τω ασταχύω.
Of itself the land produces the crop-- first the blade, then the ear; afterwards the perfect grain is seen in the ear.
29 Όταν δε ωριμάση ο καρπός, ευθύς αποστέλλει το δρέπανον, διότι ήλθεν ο θερισμός.
But no sooner is the crop ripe, than he sends the reapers, because the time of harvest has come."
30 Έτι έλεγε· Με τι να ομοιώσωμεν την βασιλείαν του Θεού; ή με ποίαν παραβολήν να παραβάλωμεν αυτήν;
Another saying of His was this: "How are we to picture the Kingdom of God? or by what figure of speech shall we represent it?
31 Είναι ομοία με κόκκον σινάπεως, όστις, όταν σπαρή επί της γης, είναι μικρότερος πάντων των σπερμάτων των επί της γής·
It is like a mustard-seed, which, when sown in the earth, is the smallest of all the seeds in the world;
32 αφού δε σπαρή, αναβαίνει και γίνεται μεγαλήτερος πάντων των λαχάνων και κάμνει κλάδους μεγάλους, ώστε υπό την σκιάν αυτού δύνανται τα πετεινά του ουρανού να κατασκηνώσι.
yet when sown it springs up and becomes larger than all the herbs, and throws out great branches, so that the birds build under its shadow."
33 Και διά τοιούτων πολλών παραβολών ελάλει προς αυτούς τον λόγον, καθώς ηδύναντο να ακούωσι,
With many such parables He used to speak the Message to them according to their capacity for receiving it.
34 χωρίς δε παραβολής δεν ελάλει προς αυτούς· κατ ιδίαν όμως εξήγει πάντα εις τους μαθητάς αυτού.
But except in figurative language He spoke nothing to them; while to His own disciples He expounded everything, in private.
35 Και λέγει προς αυτούς εν εκείνη τη ημέρα, ότε έγεινεν εσπέρα· Ας διέλθωμεν εις το πέραν.
The same day, in the evening, He said to them, "Let us cross to the other side."
36 Και αφήσαντες τον όχλον, παραλαμβάνουσιν αυτόν ως ήτο εν τω πλοίω και άλλα δε πλοιάρια ήσαν μετ' αυτού.
So they got away from the crowd, and took Him--as He was--in the boat; and other boats accompanied Him.
37 Και γίνεται μέγας ανεμοστρόβιλος και τα κύματα εισέβαλλον εις το πλοίον, ώστε αυτό ήδη εγεμίζετο.
But a heavy squall came on, and the waves were now dashing into the boat, so that it was fast filling.
38 Και αυτός ήτο επί της πρύμνης κοιμώμενος επί το προσκεφάλαιον· και εξυπνούσιν αυτόν και λέγουσι προς αυτόν· Διδάσκαλε, δεν σε μέλει ότι χανόμεθα;
But He Himself was in the stern asleep, with His head on the cushion: so they woke Him. "Rabbi," they cried, "is it nothing to you that we are drowning?"
39 Και σηκωθείς επετίμησε τον άνεμον και είπε προς την θάλασσαν· Σιώπα, ησύχασον. Και έπαυσεν ο άνεμος, και έγεινε γαλήνη μεγάλη.
So He roused Himself and rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, "Silence! Be still!" The wind sank, and a perfect calm set in.
40 Και είπε προς αυτούς· Διά τι είσθε ούτω δειλοί; πως δεν έχετε πίστιν;
"Why are you so timid?" He asked; "have you still no faith?"
41 Και εφοβήθησαν φόβον μέγαν και έλεγον προς αλλήλους· Τις λοιπόν είναι ούτος, ότι και ο άνεμος και η θάλασσα υπακούουσιν εις αυτόν;
Then they were filled with terror, and began to say to one another, "Who is this, then? For even wind and sea obey Him."
