Κατα Λουκαν 19
1 Και εισελθών διήρχετο την Ιεριχώ·
So he entered Jericho and was passing through the town.
2 και ιδού, άνθρωπος ονομαζόμενος Ζακχαίος, όστις ήτο αρχιτελώνης, και ούτος ήτο πλούσιος,
There was a man there, called Zaccheus, who was a chief of the tax- gatherers, and was wealthy.
3 και εζήτει να ίδη τον Ιησούν τις είναι, και δεν ηδύνατο διά τον όχλον, διότι ήτο μικρός το ανάστημα.
And he kept trying to see what sort of a man Jesus was; but he could not see because he was short.
4 και δραμών εμπρός ανέβη επί συκομορέαν διά να ίδη αυτόν· επειδή δι' εκείνης της οδού έμελλε να περάση.
So he ran on before him and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him; for he was about to pass that way.
5 Και ως ήλθεν εις τον τόπον ο Ιησούς, αναβλέψας είδεν αυτόν και είπε προς αυτόν· Ζακχαίε, κατάβα ταχέως· διότι σήμερον πρέπει να μείνω εν τω οίκω σου.
As soon as Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Come down quickly, Zaccheus, for today I must stay at your house."
6 Και κατέβη ταχέως και υπεδέχθη αυτόν μετά χαράς.
He made haste to climb down, and receive him joyfully.
7 Και ιδόντες άπαντες εγόγγυζον, λέγοντες ότι εις αμαρτωλόν άνθρωπον εισήλθε να καταλύση.
When they all saw it, they began to complain, saying "He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner."
8 Σταθείς δε ο Ζακχαίος, είπε προς τον Κύριον· Ιδού, τα ημίση των υπαρχόντων μου, Κύριε, δίδω εις τους πτωχούς, και εάν εσυκοφάντησά τινά εις τι, αποδίδω τετραπλούν.
But Zaccheus stood up and said to the Lord, "I give half my property to the poor, Lord, and if I have defrauded any man of anything I am restoring it to him fourfold."
9 Είπε δε προς αυτόν ο Ιησούς ότι, Σήμερον έγεινε σωτηρία εις τον οίκον τούτον, καθότι και αυτός υιός του Αβραάμ είναι.
"Today is salvation come to this house," said Jesus "since Zaccheus here is a son of Abraham.
10 Διότι ο Υιός του ανθρώπου ήλθε να ζητήση και να σώση το απολωλός.
"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save the lost."
11 Και ενώ αυτοί ήκουον ταύτα, προσθέσας είπε παραβολήν, διότι ήτο πλησίον της Ιερουσαλήμ και αυτοί ενόμιζον ότι η βασιλεία του Θεού έμελλεν ευθύς να φανή·
As they were listening to his words he added this parable, because he was near Jerusalem and they thought that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear.
12 είπε λοιπόν· Άνθρωπος τις ευγενής υπήγεν εις χώραν μακράν διά να λάβη εις εαυτόν βασιλείαν και να υποστρέψη.
So he said. "A certain nobleman went abroad to receive for himself royal power and to return.
13 Και καλέσας δέκα δούλους εαυτού, έδωκεν εις αυτούς δέκα μνας και είπε προς αυτούς· Πραγματευθήτε εωσού έλθω.
"And he summoned ten slaves of his, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, "‘Trade with these until I come.’
14 Οι συμπολίται αυτού όμως εμίσουν αυτόν και απέστειλαν κατόπιν αυτού πρέσβεις, λέγοντες· Δεν θέλομεν τούτον να βασιλεύση εφ' ημάς.
"But this fellow citizens hated him, and sent a deputation after him to say, ‘We do not wish this man to become our king.’
15 Και αφού υπέστρεψε λαβών την βασιλείαν, είπε να προσκληθώσι προς αυτόν οι δούλοι εκείνοι, εις τους οποίους έδωκε το αργύριον, διά να μάθη τι εκέρδησεν έκαστος.
"And upon his return after he had secured the royal power, he ordered the slaves to whom he had given the money to be called in, so that he might know what they had gained by trading.
16 Και ήλθεν ο πρώτος, λέγων· Κύριε, η μνα σου εκέρδησε δέκα μνας.
"And the first came before him, saying, ‘Master, your pound has made ten pounds.’
17 Και είπε προς αυτόν· Εύγε, αγαθέ δούλε· επειδή εις το ελάχιστον εφάνης πιστός, έχε εξουσίαν επάνω δέκα πόλεων.
"And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave! Because you have been faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’
18 Και ήλθεν ο δεύτερος, λέγων· Κύριε, η μνα σου έκαμε πέντε μνας.
"And the second came and said, ‘Master, your pound has made five pounds.’
19 Είπε δε και προς τούτον· Και συ γενού εξουσιαστής επάνω πέντε πόλεων.
"Then he said to him also, ‘You shall be over five cities.’
20 Ήλθε και άλλος, λέγων· Κύριε, ιδού η μνα σου, την οποίαν είχον πεφυλαγμένην εν μανδηλίω.
"And the next came to him and said, ‘Here master is your pound which I was keeping safe in a napkin.
21 Διότι σε εφοβούμην, επειδή είσαι άνθρωπος αυστηρός· λαμβάνεις ό, τι δεν κατέβαλες, και θερίζεις ό, τι δεν έσπειρας.
"‘For I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take what you did not sow.’
22 Και λέγει προς αυτόν· Εκ του στόματός σου θέλω σε κρίνει, πονηρέ δούλε· ήξευρες ότι εγώ είμαι άνθρωπος αυστηρός, λαμβάνων ό, τι δεν κατέβαλον, και θερίζων ό, τι δεν έσπειρα·
"He said to him, "‘By your own words I will Judge you, you wicked slave. You knew, did you, that I was a hard man taking up what I did not lay down, reaping what I did not sow.
23 διά τι λοιπόν δεν έδωκας το αργύριόν μου εις την τράπεζαν, ώστε εγώ ελθών ήθελον συνάξει αυτό μετά του τόκου;
"‘Then why did you not put my money into the bank, so that at my coming I might I might have gotten it back with interest?’
24 Και είπε προς τους παρεστώτας· Αφαιρέσατε απ' αυτού την μναν και δότε εις τον έχοντα τας δέκα μνας.
"Then to those who stood by, he said, ‘Take the pounds from him and give it to him who has ten pounds.’
25 Και είπον προς αυτόν· Κύριε, έχει δέκα μνας.
"‘Master,’ they said to him, ‘he already has ten pounds.’
26 Διότι σας λέγω ότι εις πάντα τον έχοντα θέλει δοθή, από δε του μη έχοντος και ό, τι έχει θέλει αφαιρεθή απ' αυτού.
"‘I tell you that to every one who has it shall be given; and from him who has not shall be taken away even what he has.
27 Πλην τους εχθρούς μου εκείνους, οίτινες δεν με ηθέλησαν να βασιλεύσω επ' αυτούς, φέρετε εδώ και κατασφάξατε έμπροσθέν μου.
"‘Howbeit these enemies of mine who were not willing for me to become their King, bring them here, and slay them in my presence.’"
28 Και ειπών ταύτα, προεχώρει αναβαίνων εις Ιεροσόλυμα.
When he had so spoken he went on before, going up to Jerusalem.
29 Και ως επλησίασεν εις Βηθφαγή και Βηθανίαν, προς το όρος το καλούμενον Ελαιών, απέστειλε δύο των μαθητών αυτού,
When he was come near Bethphage and Bethany at the mount called The Olive Orchard,
30 ειπών· Υπάγετε εις την κατέναντι κώμην, εις την οποίαν εμβαίνοντες θέλετε ευρεί πωλάριον δεδεμένον, επί του οποίου ουδείς άνθρωπος εκάθησέ ποτε· λύσατε αυτό και φέρετε.
he sent two of his disciples saying. "Go into the village in the front, and on entering it you will find an ass’s colt tied, on which no one has ever ridden.
31 Και εάν τις σας ερωτήση, Διά τι λύετε αυτό ούτω θέλετε ειπεί προς αυτόν, Ότι ο Κύριος έχει χρείαν αυτού.
"Untie it and bring it here. And if any one asks you, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’ Simply say, ‘The Master needs it.’"
32 Υπήγαν δε οι απεσταλμένοι και εύρον καθώς είπε προς αυτούς·
Then those who were sent out and found it as he had told them.
33 και ενώ έλυον το πωλάριον, είπον προς αυτούς οι κύριοι αυτού· Διά τι λύετε το πωλάριον;
For as they were untying the colt, the owners said to them, "Why are you untying the colt?"
34 Οι δε είπον· Ο Κύριος έχει χρείαν αυτού,
They answered, "The Master needs it."
35 και έφεραν αυτό προς τον Ιησούν· και ρίψαντες επί το πωλάριον τα ιμάτια αυτών, επεκάθισαν τον Ιησούν.
So they led it to Jesus, and, after throwing their outer garments on the colt, they placed Jesus on it.
36 Ενώ δε επορεύετο, υπέστρωνον τα ιμάτια αυτών εις την οδόν.
So he rode on, while they kept throwing their garments in the way.
37 Και ότε επλησίαζεν ήδη εις την κατάβασιν του όρους των Ελαιών, ήρχισαν άπαν το πλήθος των μαθητών χαίροντες να υμνώσι τον Θεόν μεγαλοφώνως διά πάντα τα θαύματα, τα οποία είδον,
And when now he was coming near Jerusalem, and descending the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice, and to praise God with a loud voice for the almighty works they had seen.
38 λέγοντες· Ευλογημένος ο ερχόμενος Βασιλεύς εν ονόματι του Κυρίου· ειρήνη εν ουρανώ, και δόξα εν υψίστοις.
They cried, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in Heaven and glory in the Highest"
39 Και τινές των Φαρισαίων από του όχλου είπον προς αυτόν· Διδάσκαλε, επίπληξον τους μαθητάς σου.
And some of the Pharisees said to them out of the crowd, "Teacher reprove your disciples!"
40 Και αποκριθείς είπε προς αυτούς· Σας λέγω ότι εάν ούτοι σιωπήσωσιν, οι λίθοι θέλουσι φωνάξει.
"I tell you," he answered, "that if these should hold their peace, the very stones would cry out."
41 Και ότε επλησίασεν, ιδών την πόλιν έκλαυσεν επ' αυτήν,
And when he came into view of the city, as he approached it he broke into loud weeping,
42 λέγων, Είθε να εγνώριζες και συ, τουλάχιστον εν τη ημέρα σου ταύτη, τα προς ειρήνην σου αποβλέποντα· αλλά τώρα εκρύφθησαν από των οφθαλμών σου·
exclaiming. "Oh that at this time you knew, yes, even you, on what your peace depends! But now it is hidden from your eyes.
43 διότι θέλουσιν ελθεί ημέραι επί σε και οι εχθροί σου θέλουσι κάμει χαράκωμα περί σε, και θέλουσι σε περικυκλώσει και θέλουσι σε στενοχωρήσει πανταχόθεν,
"The time will come for you when your enemies will throw ramparts around you, and encompass you, and shut you in on every side, and raze you to the ground,
44 και θέλουσι κατεδαφίσει σε και τα τέκνα σου εν σοι, και δεν θέλουσιν αφήσει εν σοι λίθον επί λίθον, διότι δεν εγνώρισας τον καιρόν της επισκέψεώς σου.
"you and your children within you. And they will not leave in you one stone upon the another. Because you knew not the time of your visitation."
45 Και εισελθών εις το ιερόν, ήρχισε να εκβάλλη τους πωλούντας εν αυτώ και αγοράζοντας,
Then Jesus went into the Temple and began to drive out dealers,
46 λέγων προς αυτούς· Είναι γεγραμμένον, Ο οίκός μου είναι οίκος προσευχής· σεις δε εκάμετε αυτόν σπήλαιον ληστών.
saying, "It is written, "The house of God shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers."
47 Και εδίδασκε καθ' ημέραν εν τω ιερώ οι δε αρχιερείς και οι γραμματείς και οι πρώτοι του λαού εζήτουν να απολέσωσιν αυτόν.
Day after day he continued to teach in the Temple. The high priests and scribes tried to have him put to death, so did the rulers of the people.
48 Και δεν εύρισκον το τι να πράξωσι· διότι πας ο λαός ήτο προσηλωμένος εις το να ακούη αυτόν.
But they could not find how to do it, for the people all hung upon him, listening to him.
