Κριταί 21
1 Και οι άνδρες Ισραήλ είχον ομόσει εν Μισπά, λέγοντες, ουδείς εξ ημών θέλει δώσει την θυγατέρα αυτού εις τον Βενιαμίν διά γυναίκα.
Moreouer, the men of Israel sware in Mizpeh, saying, None of vs shall giue his daughter vnto the Beniamites to wyfe.
2 Και ήλθεν ο λαός εις Βαιθήλ, και εκάθισαν εκεί έως εσπέρας ενώπιον του Θεού, και ύψωσαν την φωνήν αυτών και έκλαυσαν κλαυθμόν μέγαν·
And the people came vnto ye house of God and abode there till euen before God, and lift vp their voyces, and wept with great lamentation,
3 και είπον, Διατί, Κύριε Θεέ του Ισραήλ, έγεινε τούτο εν τω Ισραήλ, να αποκοπή σήμερον από του Ισραήλ μία φυλή;
And sayde, O Lord God of Israel, why is this come to passe in Israel, that this day one tribe of Israel should want?
4 Και την επαύριον εσηκώθη ο λαός το πρωΐ, και ωκοδόμησεν εκεί θυσιαστήριον και προσέφερεν ολοκαυτώματα και θυσίας ειρηνικάς.
And on the morow the people rose vp and made there an altar, and offred burnt offrings and peace offrings.
5 Και είπον οι υιοί Ισραήλ, Τις είναι μεταξύ πασών των φυλών του Ισραήλ, όστις δεν ανέβη εις την σύναξιν προς τον Κύριον; Διότι είχον κάμει μέγαν όρκον κατ' εκείνον όστις δεν ήθελεν αναβή προς τον Κύριον εις Μισπά, λέγοντες, Εξάπαντος θέλει θανατωθή.
Then the children of Israel said, Who is he among all the tribes of Israel, that came not vp with the Congregation vnto the Lord? for they had made a great othe concerning him that came not vp to the Lord to Mizpeh, saying, Let him die the death.
6 Και μετενόησαν οι υιοί Ισραήλ περί Βενιαμίν του αδελφού αυτών και είπον, Σήμερον απεκόπη μία φυλή από του Ισραήλ·
And the children of Israel were sory for Beniamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
7 τι θέλομεν κάμει διά γυναίκας εις τους απομείναντας, αφού ώμόσαμεν προς τον Κύριον να μη δώσωμεν εις αυτούς διά γυναίκας εκ των θυγατέρων ημών;
How shall we do for wiues to them that remaine, seeing we haue sworne by the Lord, that we will not giue them of our daughters to wiues?
8 Και είπον, Ποίός τις είναι εκ των φυλών Ισραήλ, όστις δεν ανέβη εις Μισπά προς τον Κύριον; Και ιδού, δεν είχεν ελθεί ουδείς εις το στρατόπεδον από Ιαβείς-γαλαάδ εις την σύναξιν.
Also they saide, Is there any of the tribes of Israel that came not vp to Mizpeh to the Lord? and beholde, there came none of Iabesh Gilead vnto the hoste and to the Congregation.
9 Διότι έγεινεν εξέτασις του λαού, και ιδού, δεν ήτο εκεί ουδείς εκ των κατοίκων της Ιαβείς-γαλαάδ.
For when the people were vewed; beholde, none of the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead were there.
10 Και απέστειλεν εκεί η συναγωγή δώδεκα χιλιάδας ανδρών εκ των πλέον δυνατών και προσέταξεν αυτούς, λέγουσα, Υπάγετε και πατάξατε τους κατοίκους της Ιαβείς-γαλαάδ εν στόματι μαχαίρας, και τας γυναίκας και τα παιδία·
Therefore the Congregation sent thither twelue thousande men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, Goe, and smite the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, both women, and children.
11 και τούτο είναι το πράγμα, το οποίον θέλετε κάμει· παν αρσενικόν και πάσαν γυναίκα γνωρίσασαν κοίτην αρσενικού θέλετε εξολοθρεύσει.
And this is it that ye shall do: ye shall vtterly destroye all the males and all the women that haue lien by men.
12 Και εύρηκαν μεταξύ των κατοίκων της Ιαβείς-γαλαάδ τετρακοσίας νέας παρθένους, αίτινες δεν είχον γνωρίσει άνδρα εν κοίτη αρσενικού· και έφεραν αυτάς προς το στρατόπεδον εις Σηλώ, ήτις είναι εν γη Χαναάν.
And they found among the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead foure hundreth maides, virgins that had knowne no man by lying with any male: and they brought them vnto the hoste to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
13 Και απέστειλε πάσα η συναγωγή, και ελάλησαν προς τους υιούς Βενιαμίν, τους εν τη πέτρα Ριμμών, και εκάλεσαν αυτούς εις ειρήνην.
Then the whole Congregation sent and spake with the children of Beniamin that were in the rocke of Rimmon, and called peaceably vnto them:
14 Και επέστρεψεν ο Βενιαμίν κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν· και έδωκαν εις αυτούς τας γυναίκας, τας οποίας είχον αφήσει ζώσας εκ των γυναικών της Ιαβείς-γαλαάδ· πλην δεν εξήρκεσαν εις αυτούς.
And Beniamin came againe at that time, and they gaue them wiues which they had saued aliue of the women of Iabesh Gilead: but they had not so ynough for them.
15 Και μετενόησεν ο λαός περί Βενιαμίν, διότι ο Κύριος έκαμε χαλασμόν εν ταις φυλαίς Ισραήλ.
And the people were sorie for Beniamin, because the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
16 Τότε είπον οι πρεσβύτεροι της συναγωγής, Τι θέλομεν κάμει διά γυναίκας εις τους λοιπούς; επειδή αι γυναίκες ηφανίσθησαν εκ του Βενιαμίν.
Therefore the Elders of the Congregation said, How shall we doe for wiues to the remnant? for the women of Beniamin are destroyed.
17 Και είπον, Πρέπει να μένη η κληρονομία εις τους σωθέντας εκ του Βενιαμίν, διά να μη εξαλειφθή μία φυλή εκ του Ισραήλ·
And they saide, there must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Beniamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.
18 πλην ημείς δεν δυνάμεθα να δώσωμεν εις αυτούς γυναίκας εκ των θυγατέρων ημών· διότι οι υιοί Ισραήλ ώμοσαν, λέγοντες, Επικατάρατος, όστις δώση γυναίκα εις τον Βενιαμίν.
Howbeit we may not giue them wiues of our daughters: for the childre of Israel had sworne, saying, Cursed be he that giueth a wise to Beniamin.
19 Τότε είπον, Ιδού, κατ' έτος γίνεται εορτή του Κυρίου εν Σηλώ, ήτις είναι προς βορράν της Βαιθήλ, προς ανατολάς της οδού ήτις αναβαίνει από Βαιθήλ εις Συχέμ και προς νότον της Λεβωνά.
Therefore they said, Beholde, there is a feast of the Lord euery yere in Shiloh in a place, which is on the Northside of Beth-el, and on the Eastside of the way that goeth vp from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the South of Lebonah.
20 Προσέταξαν λοιπόν εις τους υιούς του Βενιαμίν, λέγοντες, Υπάγετε και ενεδρεύσατε εις τας αμπέλους·
Therefore they commanded the children of Beniamin, saying, Goe, and lye in waite in the vineyardes.
21 και παρατηρήσατε, και ιδού, εάν αι θυγατέρες της Σηλώ εξέλθωσι να χορεύσωσιν εις τους χορούς, τότε εξέλθετε εκ των αμπέλων και αρπάσατε εις εαυτούς έκαστος την γυναίκα αυτού εκ των θυγατέρων της Σηλώ, και υπάγετε εις την γην του Βενιαμίν·
And when ye see that the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catche you euery man a wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and goe into the land of Beniamin.
22 και όταν οι πατέρες αυτών ή οι αδελφοί αυτών έλθωσιν προς ημάς διά να παραπονεθώσιν, ημείς θέλομεν ειπεί προς αυτούς, Κάμετε εις αυτούς έλεος διά ημάς, επειδή δεν συνελάβομεν εν τω πολέμω γυναίκα δι' έκαστον· σεις δε μη δίδοντες εις αυτούς κατά τον καιρόν τούτον, ηθέλετε είσθαι ένοχοι.
And when their fathers or their brethren come vnto vs to complaine, we wil say vnto them, Haue pitie on them for our sakes, because we reserued not to eche man his wife in the warre, and because ye haue not giuen vnto them hitherto, ye haue sinned.
23 Και έκαμον ούτως οι υιοί Βενιαμίν, και έλαβον γυναίκας κατά τον αριθμόν αυτών εξ εκείνων αίτινες εχόρευον, αρπάσαντες αυτάς· και ανεχώρησαν και υπέστρεψαν εις την κληρονομίαν αυτών, και έκτισαν τας πόλεις και κατώκησαν εν αυταίς.
And the children of Beniamin did so, and tooke wiues of them that danced according to their nomber: which they tooke, and went away, and returned to their inheritance, and repaired the cities and dwelt in them.
24 Και ανεχώρησαν εκείθεν κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν οι υιοί Ισραήλ, έκαστος εις την φυλήν αυτού και εις την συγγένειαν αυτού· και εξήλθον εκείθεν, έκαστος εις την κληρονομίαν αυτού.
So the children of Israel departed thence at that time, euery man to his tribe, and to his familie, and went out from thence euery man to his inheritance.
25 Κατ' εκείνας τας ημέρας δεν ήτο βασιλεύς εν τω Ισραήλ· έκαστος έπραττε το αρεστόν εις τους οφθαλμούς αυτού.
In those dayes there was no King in Israel, but euery man did that which was good in his eyes.
