Κατα Ιωαννην 19
1 Τότε λοιπόν έλαβεν ο Πιλάτος τον Ιησούν και εμαστίγωσε.
Then Pilate, therefore, took Jesus, and scourged him.
2 Και οι στρατιώται, πλέξαντες στέφανον εξ ακανθών, έθεσαν επί της κεφαλής αυτού και ενέδυσαν αυτόν ιμάτιον πορφυρούν
And, the soldiers, plaiting a crown out of thorns, placed it upon his head, and, a purple robe, cast they about him;
3 και έλεγον· Χαίρε βασιλεύ των Ιουδαίων· και έδιδον εις αυτόν ραπίσματα.
and kept coming unto him, and saying—Joy to thee! O King of the Jews!—and were giving unto him smart blows.
4 Εξήλθε δε πάλιν έξω ο Πιλάτος και λέγει προς αυτούς· Ιδού, σας φέρω αυτόν έξω, διά να γνωρίσητε ότι ουδέν έγκλημα ευρίσκω εν αυτώ.
And Pilate went forth again outside, and saith unto them—See! I lead him unto you outside, that ye may take knowledge, that, no single fault, do I find in him.
5 Εξήλθε λοιπόν ο Ιησούς έξω, φορών τον ακάνθινον στέφανον και το πορφυρούν ιμάτιον, και λέγει προς αυτούς ο Πιλάτος· Ιδέ ο άνθρωπος.
Jesus, therefore, came forth outside, wearing the thorn crown, and the purple mantle. And he saith unto them—Lo! the Man!
6 Ότε δε είδον αυτόν οι αρχιερείς και οι υπηρέται, εκραύγασαν λέγοντες· Σταύρωσον, σταύρωσον αυτόν. Λέγει προς αυτούς ο Πιλάτος· Λάβετε αυτόν σεις και σταυρώσατε· διότι εγώ δεν ευρίσκω εν αυτώ έγκλημα.
When, therefore, the High-priests and the officers saw him, they cried aloud, saying—Crucify! Crucify! Pilate saith unto them—Ye, take him, and crucify; for, I, find not in him, a fault.
7 Απεκρίθησαν προς αυτόν οι Ιουδαίοι· Ημείς νόμον έχομεν, και κατά τον νόμον ημών πρέπει να αποθάνη, διότι έκαμεν εαυτόν Υιόν του Θεού.
The Jews answered him—We, have, a law, and, according to the law, he ought to die, because, Son of God, himself, he made.
8 Ότε δε ήκουσεν ο Πιλάτος τούτον τον λόγον, μάλλον εφοβήθη,
When, therefore, Pilate heard this word, he was the more afraid;
9 και εισήλθε πάλιν εις το πραιτώριον, και λέγει προς τον Ιησούν· Πόθεν είσαι συ; Ο δε Ιησούς απόκρισιν δεν έδωκεν εις αυτόν.
and entered into the judgment-hall again, and saith unto Jesus—Whence, art, thou? But, Jesus, gave him no, answer.
10 Λέγει λοιπόν προς αυτόν ο Πιλάτος· Προς εμέ δεν λαλείς; δεν εξεύρεις ότι εξουσίαν έχω να σε σταυρώσω και εξουσίαν έχω να σε απολύσω;
Pilate, therefore, saith unto him—Unto me, dost thou not speak? Knowest thou not, that, authority, have I to release thee, and, authority, have I to crucify thee?
11 Απεκρίθη ο Ιησούς· Δεν είχες ουδεμίαν εξουσίαν κατ' εμού, εάν δεν σοι ήτο δεδομένον άνωθεν· διά τούτο ο παραδίδων με εις σε έχει μεγαλητέραν αμαρτίαν.
Jesus answered him—Thou couldst have had no authority against me, at all, if it had not been given unto thee from above. Therefore, he that delivered me unto thee, hath, greater sin.
12 Έκτοτε εζήτει ο Πιλάτος να απολύση αυτόν· οι Ιουδαίοι όμως έκραζον, λέγοντες· Εάν τούτον απολύσης, δεν είσαι φίλος του Καίσαρος. Πας όστις κάμνει εαυτόν βασιλέα αντιλέγει εις τον Καίσαρα.
For this cause, Pilate, began seeking to release him; but, the Jews, cried aloud saying—If this man thou release, thou art not a friend of Caesar, for, every one who maketh himself king, speaketh against Caesar.
13 Ο Πιλάτος λοιπόν, ακούσας τούτον τον λόγον, έφερεν έξω τον Ιησούν και εκάθησεν επί του βήματος εις τον τόπον λεγόμενον Λιθόστρωτον, Εβραϊστί δε Γαβαθθά.
Pilate, therefore, when he heard these words, led Jesus outside, and sat down upon a raised seat, in a place called Pavement, but, in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14 Ήτο δε παρασκευή του πάσχα και ώρα περίπου έκτη· και λέγει προς τους Ιουδαίους· Ιδού ο βασιλεύς σας.
Now it was the preparation of the passover, —it was about the sixth hour. And he saith unto the Jews—See! your King!
15 Οι δε εκραύγασαν· Άρον, άρον, σταύρωσον αυτόν. Λέγει προς αυτούς ο Πιλάτος· Τον βασιλέα σας να σταυρώσω; Απεκρίθησαν οι αρχιερείς· Δεν έχομεν βασιλέα ειμή Καίσαρα.
They, therefore, cried aloud—Away! away! Crucify him! Pilate saith unto them—Your king, shall I crucify? The High-priests answered—We have no king but Caesar!
16 Τότε λοιπόν παρέδωκεν αυτόν εις αυτούς διά να σταυρωθή. Και παρέλαβον τον Ιησούν και απήγαγον·
Then, therefore, he delivered him up unto them, that he might be crucified. They took possession, therefore, of Jesus.
17 και βαστάζων τον σταυρόν αυτού, εξήλθεν εις τον λεγόμενον Κρανίου τόπον, όστις λέγεται Εβραϊστί Γολγοθά,
And, bearing for himself the cross, he went forth unto the so-called Skull-place, which is named, in Hebrew, Golgotha;
18 όπου εσταύρωσαν αυτόν και μετ' αυτού άλλους δύο εντεύθεν και εντεύθεν, μέσον δε τον Ιησούν.
where, him, they crucified; and, with him, other two, on this side and on that, and, in the midst, Jesus.
19 Έγραψε δε και τίτλον ο Πιλάτος και έθεσεν επί του σταυρού· ήτο δε γεγραμμένον· Ιησούς ο Ναζωραίος ο Βασιλεύς των Ιουδαίων.
And Pilate wrote a title also, and placed on the cross; and there was written—JESUS, THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20 Και τούτον τον τίτλον ανέγνωσαν πολλοί των Ιουδαίων, διότι ήτο πλησίον της πόλεως ο τόπος, όπου εσταυρώθη ο Ιησούς· και ήτο γεγραμμένον Εβραϊστί, Ελληνιστί, Ρωμαϊστί.
This title, therefore, read many of the Jews, because, near, was the place to the city where Jesus was crucified; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, in Greek.
21 Έλεγον λοιπόν προς τον Πιλάτον οι αρχιερείς των Ιουδαίων· Μη γράφε, Ο βασιλεύς των Ιουδαίων· αλλ' ότι εκείνος είπε, Βασιλεύς είμαι των Ιουδαίων.
The High-priests of the Jews, therefore, were saying unto Pilate—Do not be writing, The King of the Jews; but that, he, said: King of the Jews, I am.
22 Απεκρίθη ο Πιλάτος· Ο γέγραφα, γέγραφα.
Pilate answered—What I have written, I have written!
23 Οι στρατιώται λοιπόν, αφού εσταύρωσαν τον Ιησούν, έλαβον τα ιμάτια αυτού και έκαμον τέσσαρα μερίδια, εις έκαστον στρατιώτην εν μερίδιον, και τον χιτώνα· ήτο δε ο χιτών άρραφος, από άνωθεν όλος υφαντός.
The soldiers, therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, unto each soldier, a part; also the tunic. Howbeit, the tunic was without seam, from above, woven throughout.
24 Είπον λοιπόν προς αλλήλους· Ας μη σχίσωμεν αυτόν, αλλ' ας ρίψωμεν λαχνόν περί αυτού τίνος θέλει είσθαι· διά να πληρωθή η γραφή η λέγουσα· Διεμερίσθησαν τα ιμάτιά μου εις εαυτούς, και επί τον ιματισμόν μου έβαλον κλήρον· οι μεν λοιπόν στρατιώται ταύτα έκαμον.
They said, therefore, one to another—Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose, it shall be; —that, the Scripture, might be fulfilled—They parted my garments amongst them, and, for my vestment, they cast lots: —yes verily, the soldiers, these things did.
25 Ίσταντο δε πλησίον εις τον σταυρόν του Ιησού η μήτηρ αυτού και η αδελφή της μητρός αυτού, Μαρία η γυνή του Κλωπά και Μαρία η Μαγδαληνή.
And there were standing by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary the Magdalene.
26 Ο Ιησούς λοιπόν, ως είδε την μητέρα και τον μαθητήν παριστάμενον, τον οποίον ηγάπα, λέγει προς την μητέρα αυτού· Γύναι, ιδού ο υιός σου.
Jesus, therefore, seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved, saith unto his mother—O woman, see! thy son!
27 Έπειτα λέγει προς τον μαθητήν· Ιδού η μήτηρ σου. Και απ' εκείνης της ώρας έλαβεν αυτήν ο μαθητής εις την οικίαν αυτού.
Afterwards, he saith unto the disciple—See! thy mother! And, from that hour, the disciple took her unto his own home.
28 Μετά τούτο γινώσκων ο Ιησούς ότι πάντα ήδη ετελέσθησαν διά να πληρωθή η γραφή, λέγει· Διψώ.
After this, Jesus, knowing that, already, all things, have been finished, —that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith—I thirst!
29 Έκειτο δε εκεί αγγείον πλήρες όξους· και εκείνοι γεμίσαντες σπόγγον από όξους και περιθέσαντες εις ύσσωπον προσέφεραν εις το στόμα αυτού.
A vessel, was standing, full of vinegar. A sponge, therefore, full of the vinegar, put about, hyssop, brought they unto his mouth.
30 Ότε λοιπόν έλαβε το όξος ο Ιησούς, είπε, Τετέλεσται· και κλίνας την κεφαλήν παρέδωκε το πνεύμα.
When, therefore, he had received the vinegar, Jesus said—It is finished! And, bowing his head, delivered up his spirit.
31 Οι δε Ιουδαίοι, διά να μη μείνωσιν επί του σταυρού τα σώματα εν τω σαββάτω, επειδή ήτο παρασκευή· διότι ήτο μεγάλη εκείνη η ημέρα του σαββάτου· παρεκάλεσαν τον Πιλάτον διά να συνθλασθώσιν αυτών τα σκέλη, και να σηκωθώσιν.
The Jews, therefore, since it was, a preparation, that the bodies might not remain upon the cross during the Sabbath, —for that Sabbath day was, great, requested Pilate that their legs might be broken, and they be taken away.
32 Ήλθον λοιπόν οι στρατιώται, και του μεν πρώτου συνέθλασαν τα σκέλη και του άλλου του συσταυρωθέντος μετ' αυτού·
The soldiers, therefore, came; and, of the first, indeed, brake the legs, and of the other who was crucified with him, —
33 εις δε τον Ιησούν ελθόντες, ως είδον αυτόν ήδη τεθνηκότα, δεν συνέθλασαν αυτού τα σκέλη,
but coming, unto Jesus, when they saw that, already, he was dead, they brake not his legs; —
34 αλλ' εις των στρατιωτών εκέντησε με λόγχην την πλευράν αυτού, και ευθύς εξήλθεν αίμα και ύδωρ.
but, one of the soldiers, with a spear, pierced, his side, and there came out, straightway, blood and water.
35 Και ο ιδών μαρτυρεί, και αληθινή είναι η μαρτυρία αυτού, και εκείνος εξεύρει ότι αλήθειαν λέγει, διά να πιστεύσητε σεις.
And, he that hath seen, hath borne witness; and, genuine, is his testimony, and, he, knoweth that he saith, what is true, that, ye also, may believe.
36 Διότι έγειναν ταύτα, διά να πληρωθή η γραφή, Οστούν αυτού δεν θέλει συντριφθή.
For these things came to pass, that, the Scripture, might be fulfilled—A bone thereof, shall not be crushed;
37 Και πάλιν άλλη γραφή λέγει· Θέλουσιν επιβλέψει εις εκείνον, τον οποίον εξεκέντησαν.
and, again, a different Scripture, saith—They shall look unto him whom they pierced.
38 Μετά δε ταύτα Ιωσήφ ο από Αριμαθαίας, όστις ήτο μαθητής του Ιησού, κεκρυμμένος όμως διά τον φόβον των Ιουδαίων, παρεκάλεσε τον Πιλάτον να σηκώση το σώμα του Ιησού· και ο Πιλάτος έδωκεν άδειαν. Ήλθε λοιπόν και εσήκωσε το σώμα του Ιησού.
But, after these things, Joseph from Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but having kept it secret for fear of the Jews, requested Pilate, that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave permission. He came, therefore, and took away his body.
39 Ήλθε δε και ο Νικόδημος, όστις είχεν ελθεί προς τον Ιησούν διά νυκτός κατ' αρχάς, φέρων μίγμα σμύρνης και αλόης έως εκατόν λίτρας.
There came, moreover, Nicodemus also, —he that came unto him by night at the first, —bearing a roll of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds’ weight.
40 Έλαβον λοιπόν το σώμα του Ιησού και έδεσαν αυτό με σάβανα μετά των αρωμάτων, καθώς είναι συνήθεια εις τους Ιουδαίους να ενταφιάζωσιν.
So they received the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen-bandages with the spices, —just as it is, a custom, with the Jews to prepare for burial.
41 Ήτο δε εν τω τόπω όπου εσταυρώθη κήπος, και εν τω κήπω μνημείον νέον, εις το οποίον ουδείς έτι είχε τεθή.
Now there was, in the place where he was crucified, a garden; and, in the garden, an unused tomb, wherein, as yet, no one had been laid.
42 Εκεί λοιπόν έθεσαν τον Ιησούν διά την παρασκευήν των Ιουδαίων, διότι ήτο πλησίον το μνημείον.
So, there, by reason of the preparation of the Jews, because, near, was the tomb, laid they Jesus.
