Κατα Ιωαννην 1
1 Εν αρχή ήτο ο Λόγος, και ο Λόγος ήτο παρά τω Θεώ, και Θεός ήτο ο Λόγος.
IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Ούτος ήτο εν αρχή παρά τω Θεώ.
He was in the beginning with God.
3 Πάντα δι' αυτού έγειναν, και χωρίς αυτού δεν έγεινεν ουδέ εν, το οποίον έγεινεν.
All things were made by him; and without him was not one thing made that was made.
4 Εν αυτώ ήτο ζωή, και η ζωή ήτο το φως των ανθρώπων.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 Και το φως εν τη σκοτία φέγγει και η σκοτία δεν κατέλαβεν αυτό.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 Υπήρξεν άνθρωπος απεσταλμένος παρά Θεού, ονομαζόμενος Ιωάννης·
A man was sent from God, whose name was John.
7 ούτος ήλθεν εις μαρτυρίαν, διά να μαρτυρήση περί του φωτός, διά να πιστεύσωσι πάντες δι' αυτού.
He came for a witness, that he might bear testimony concerning the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 Δεν ήτο εκείνος το φως, αλλά διά να μαρτυρήση περί του φωτός.
He was not the Light, but sent that he should bear testimony concerning the Light.
9 Ήτο το φως το αληθινόν, το οποίον φωτίζει πάντα άνθρωπον ερχόμενον εις τον κόσμον.
He was that true Light, which illumines every man by his coming into the world.
10 Ήτο εν τω κόσμω, και ο κόσμος έγεινε δι' αυτού, και ο κόσμος δεν εγνώρισεν αυτόν.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 Εις τα ίδια ήλθε, και οι ίδιοι δεν εδέχθησαν αυτόν.
He came unto his peculiar people, and his peculiar people did not receive him.
12 Όσοι δε εδέχθησαν αυτόν, εις αυτούς έδωκεν εξουσίαν να γείνωσι τέκνα Θεού, εις τους πιστεύοντας εις το όνομα αυτού·
But as many as did receive him, on them he bestowed authority to become children of God, even on those who believe on his name:
13 οίτινες ουχί εξ αιμάτων ουδέ εκ θελήματος σαρκός ουδέ εκ θελήματος ανδρός, αλλ' εκ Θεού εγεννήθησαν.
who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 Και ο Λόγος έγεινε σαρξ και κατώκησε μεταξύ ημών, και είδομεν την δόξαν αυτού, δόξαν ως μονογενούς παρά του Πατρός, πλήρης χάριτος και αληθείας.
And the Word became incarnate, and tabernacled with us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth.
15 Ο Ιωάννης μαρτυρεί περί αυτού και εφώναξε, λέγων· Ούτος ήτο περί ου είπον, Ο οπίσω μου ερχόμενος είναι ανώτερος μου, διότι ήτο πρότερός μου.
John bore witness concerning him, and cried, saying, This is he of whom I said, He that is coming after me, is before me: because before me he was.
16 Και πάντες ημείς ελάβομεν εκ του πληρώματος αυτού και χάριν αντί χάριτος·
And from his plenitude we all have received, even grace corresponding with his grace.
17 διότι και ο νόμος εδόθη διά του Μωϋσέως· η δε χάρις και αλήθεια έγεινε διά Ιησού Χριστού.
For the law was given by Moses, but the grace and the reality came by Jesus Christ.
18 Ουδείς είδε ποτέ τον Θεόν· ο μονογενής Υιός, ο ων εις τον κόλπον του Πατρός, εκείνος εφανέρωσεν αυτόν.
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath thoroughly described him.
19 Και αύτη είναι η μαρτυρία του Ιωάννου, ότε απέστειλαν οι Ιουδαίοι εξ Ιεροσολύμων ιερείς και Λευΐτας διά να ερωτήσωσιν αυτόν· Συ τις είσαι;
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they should question him, Who art thou?
20 Και ώμολόγησε και δεν ηρνήθη· και ώμολόγησεν ότι δεν είμαι εγώ ο Χριστός.
And he confessed, and denied it not; but acknowledged, I am not the Messiah.
21 Και ηρώτησαν αυτόν· Τι λοιπόν; Ηλίας είσαι συ; και λέγει, δεν είμαι. Ο προφήτης είσαι συ; και απεκρίθη, Ουχί.
And they asked him, What then? art thou Elias? and he said, I am not. Art thou that prophet? and he answered, No.
22 Είπον λοιπόν προς αυτόν· Τις είσαι; διά να δώσωμεν απόκρισιν εις τους αποστείλαντας ημάς· τι λέγεις περί σεαυτού;
Then said they to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us: What description givest thou of thyself?
23 Απεκρίθη· Εγώ είμαι φωνή βοώντος εν τη ερήμω, ευθύνατε την οδόν του Κυρίου, καθώς είπεν Ησαΐας ο προφήτης.
He said, I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way for the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
24 Οι δε απεσταλμένοι ήσαν εκ των Φαρισαίων·
And they who were sent, were of the Pharisees.
25 και ηρώτησαν αυτόν και είπον προς αυτόν· Διά τι λοιπόν βαπτίζεις, εάν συ δεν είσαι ο Χριστός ούτε ο Ηλίας ούτε ο προφήτης;
And they questioned him, and said to him, Why then dost thou baptise, if thou be not the Messiah, nor Elias, nor that prophet?
26 Απεκρίθη προς αυτούς ο Ιωάννης λέγων· Εγώ βαπτίζω εν ύδατι· εν μέσω δε υμών ίσταται εκείνος, τον οποίον σεις δεν γνωρίζετε·
John answered them, saying, I baptise with water: but in the midst of you hath stood a person, whom ye have not known;
27 αυτός είναι ο οπίσω μου ερχόμενος, όστις είναι ανώτερός μου, του οποίου εγώ δεν είμαι άξιος να λύσω το λωρίον του υποδήματος αυτού.
it is he, though coming after me, who was before me, the thong of whole sandal I am not worthy to untie.
28 Ταύτα έγειναν εν Βηθαβαρά πέραν του Ιορδάνου, όπου ήτο ο Ιωάννης βαπτίζων.
These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptising.
29 Τη επαύριον βλέπει ο Ιωάννης τον Ιησούν ερχόμενον προς αυτόν και λέγει· Ιδού, ο Αμνός του Θεού ο αίρων την αμαρτίαν του κόσμου.
The next day John seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world,
30 Ούτος είναι περί ου εγώ είπον· Οπίσω μου έρχεται ανήρ, όστις είναι ανώτερός μου, διότι ήτο πρότερός μου.
This is he of whom I spake, After me cometh a man who was before me: for before me he existed.
31 Και εγώ δεν εγνώριζον αυτόν, αλλά διά να φανερωθή εις τον Ισραήλ, διά τούτο ήλθον εγώ βαπτίζων εν τω ύδατι.
And I knew him not: though that he might be manifested to Israel, therefore am I come baptising with water.
32 Και εμαρτύρησεν ο Ιωάννης, λέγων ότι Είδον το Πνεύμα καταβαίνον ως περιστεράν εξ ουρανού και έμεινεν επ' αυτόν.
And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it rested upon him.
33 Και εγώ δεν εγνώριζον αυτόν· αλλ' ο πέμψας με διά να βαπτίζω εν ύδατι εκείνος μοι είπεν· εις όντινα ίδης το Πνεύμα καταβαίνον και μένον επ' αυτόν, ούτος είναι ο βαπτίζων εν Πνεύματι Αγίω.
And I did not know him: but he that sent me baptising with water, he said to me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending as a dove, and resting upon him, that is he who baptiseth with the Holy Ghost.
34 Και εγώ είδον και εμαρτύρησα, ότι ούτος είναι ο Υιός του Θεού.
And I have seen it, and have borne testimony that this is the Son of God.
35 Τη επαύριον πάλιν ίστατο ο Ιωάννης και δύο εκ των μαθητών αυτού,
On the morrow John was again standing with two of his disciples;
36 και εμβλέψας εις τον Ιησούν περιπατούντα, λέγει· Ιδού, ο Αμνός του Θεού.
and looking upon Jesus as he walked by, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 Και ήκουσαν αυτόν οι δύο μαθηταί λαλούντα και ηκολούθησαν τον Ιησούν.
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Στραφείς δε ο Ιησούς και ιδών αυτούς ακολουθούντας, λέγει προς αυτούς· Τι ζητείτε; Οι δε είπον προς αυτόν, Ραββί, το οποίον ερμηνευόμενον λέγεται, Διδάσκαλε, που μένεις;
Then Jesus turned about, and seeing them following, saith to them, What are ye seeking? They said unto him, Rabbi (which signifies, when translated, Master), where is thy abode?
39 Λέγει προς αυτούς· Έλθετε και ίδετε, ήλθον και είδον που μένει, και έμειναν παρ' αυτώ την ημέραν εκείνην· η δε ώρα ήτο ως δεκάτη.
He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he abode, and continued with him that day: and it was about the tenth hour.
40 Ήτο Ανδρέας ο αδελφός του Σίμωνος Πέτρου εις εκ των δύο, οίτινες ήκουσαν περί αυτού παρά του Ιωάννου και ηκολούθησαν αυτόν.
One of the two, who had heard from John mention of Jesus, and had followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41 Ούτος πρώτος ευρίσκει τον εαυτού αδελφόν Σίμωνα και λέγει προς αυτόν· Ευρήκαμεν τον Μεσσίαν, το οποίον μεθερμηνευόμενον είναι ο Χριστός.
He first finds his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being translated, the Christ).
42 Και έφερεν αυτόν προς τον Ιησούν. Εμβλέψας δε εις αυτόν ο Ιησούς είπε· Συ είσαι Σίμων, ο υιός του Ιωνά· συ θέλεις ονομασθή Κηφάς, το οποίον ερμηνεύεται Πέτρος.
And he brought him to Jesus. Then Jesus looking on him, said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonas: thou shalt be called Cephas, which, interpreted in Greek, is Petros, a Rock.
43 Τη επαύριον ηθέλησεν ο Ιησούς να εξέλθη εις την Γαλιλαίαν· και ευρίσκει τον Φίλιππον και λέγει προς αυτόν· Ακολούθει μοι.
The next day Jesus resolved to go into Galilee, and he findeth Philip, and saith to him, Follow me.
44 Ήτο δε ο Φίλιππος από Βηθσαϊδά, εκ της πόλεως Ανδρέου και Πέτρου.
Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Ευρίσκει Φίλιππος τον Ναθαναήλ και λέγει προς αυτόν· Εκείνον τον οποίον έγραψεν ο Μωϋσής εν τω νόμω και οι προφήται ευρήκαμεν, Ιησούν τον υιόν του Ιωσήφ τον από Ναζαρέτ.
Philip findeth Nathaniel, and saith to him, We have found him whom Moses in the law has described, and the prophets, Jesus the son of Joseph, who is of Nazareth.
46 Και είπε προς αυτόν ο Ναθαναήλ· Εκ Ναζαρέτ δύναται να προέλθη τι αγαθόν; Λέγει προς αυτόν ο Φίλιππος, Έρχου και ίδε.
And Nathaniel said to him, Can any thing good come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
47 Είδεν ο Ιησούς τον Ναθαναήλ ερχόμενον προς αυτόν και λέγει περί αυτού· Ιδού, αληθώς Ισραηλίτης, εις τον οποίον δόλος δεν υπάρχει.
Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite in reality, in whom there is no guile!
48 Λέγει προς αυτόν ο Ναθαναήλ· Πόθεν με γινώσκεις; Απεκρίθη ο Ιησούς και είπε προς αυτόν· Πριν ο Φίλιππος σε φωνάξη, όντα υποκάτω της συκής, είδόν σε.
Nathaniel saith unto him, From whence canst thou know me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
49 Απεκρίθη ο Ναθαναήλ και λέγει προς αυτόν· Ραββί, συ είσαι ο Υιός του Θεού, συ είσαι ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ.
Nathaniel answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the king of Israel.
50 Απεκρίθη ο Ιησούς και είπε προς αυτόν· Επειδή σοι είπον· είδόν σε υποκάτω της συκής, πιστεύεις; μεγαλήτερα τούτων θέλεις ιδεί.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 Και λέγει προς αυτόν· Αληθώς, αληθώς σας λέγω· από του νυν θέλετε ιδεί τον ουρανόν ανεωγμένον και τους αγγέλους του Θεού αναβαίνοντας και καταβαίνοντας επί τον Υιόν του ανθρώπου.
And he saith to him, Verily, verily, I tell you, From henceforth ye shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
