Ἱερεμίας 40

1 Ο λόγος ο γενόμενος προς Ιερεμίαν παρά Κυρίου, αφού Νεβουζαραδάν ο αρχισωματοφύλαξ εξαπέστειλεν αυτόν από Ραμά, ότε είχε λάβει αυτόν δεδεμένον με χειρόδεσμα μεταξύ πάντων των μετοικισθέντων από Ιερουσαλήμ και Ιούδα, οίτινες εφέροντο αιχμάλωτοι εις την Βαβυλώνα.

The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, after that Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, had let him go from Ramah. For he had taken him, and he had been bound with chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah which were carried away captive to Babylon.

2 Και επίασεν ο αρχισωματοφύλαξ τον Ιερεμίαν και είπε προς αυτόν, Κύριος ο Θεός σου ελάλησε τα κακά ταύτα επί τον τόπον τούτον.

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him: “Jehovah, thy God, pronounced this evil against this place;

3 Και επέφερεν αυτά ο Κύριος και έκαμε καθώς είπεν· επειδή ημαρτήσατε εις τον Κύριον και δεν υπηκούσατε εις την φωνήν αυτού, διά τούτο έγεινεν εις εσάς το πράγμα τούτο.

and now Jehovah hath brought it, and done according as he spake, because ye sinned against Jehovah, and obeyed not his voice; therefore hath this thing come upon you.

4 Και τώρα ιδού, σε έλυσα σήμερον εκ των χειροδέσμων των επί των χειρών σου· εάν φαίνηται εις σε καλόν να έλθης μετ' εμού εις την Βαβυλώνα, ελθέ, και εγώ θέλω σε περιποιηθή· αλλ' εάν φαίνηται εις σε κακόν να έλθης μετ' εμού εις την Βαβυλώνα, μείνον· ιδού, πας ο τόπος είναι έμπροσθέν σου· όπου σοι φαίνεται καλόν και αρεστόν να υπάγης, εκεί ύπαγε.

And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains upon thy hands. If it seem good to thee to come with me to Babylon, come; and I will set my eyes upon thee; but if it seem evil to thee to come with me to Babylon, forbear; behold, the whole land is before thee; whither it seemeth good and desirable for thee to go, thither go.”

5 Και επειδή δεν εστρέφετο, Επίστρεψον λοιπόν, είπε, προς τον Γεδαλίαν, υιόν του Αχικάμ υιού του Σαφάν, τον οποίον ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος κατέστησεν επί τας πόλεις του Ιούδα, και κατοίκησον μετ' αυτού μεταξύ του λαού· ή ύπαγε όπου σοι φαίνεται αρεστόν να υπάγης. Και έδωκεν εις αυτόν ο αρχισωματοφύλαξ ζωοτροφίας και δώρα και εξαπέστειλεν αυτόν.

And while he was not yet gone away [[he said]]: “Go to Gedaliah, the of son Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go whithersoever it seemeth good to thee to go.” And the captain of the guard gave him provisions, and a present, and dismissed him.

6 Και υπήγεν ο Ιερεμίας προς Γεδαλίαν τον υιόν του Αχικάμ εις Μισπά και κατώκησε μετ' αυτού μεταξύ του λαού του εναπολειφθέντος εν τη γη.

And Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

7 Ακούσαντες δε πάντες οι αρχηγοί των στρατευμάτων των εν τω αγρώ, αυτοί και οι άνδρες αυτών, ότι ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος κατέστησε Γεδαλίαν τον υιόν του Αχικάμ επί την γην και έτι ενεπιστεύθη εις αυτόν άνδρας και γυναίκας και παιδία και εκ των πτωχών της γης, εκ των μη μετοικισθέντων εις την Βαβυλώνα,

Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, governor over the land, and had committed to his charge men and women and children, of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon,

8 ήλθον προς τον Γεδαλίαν εις Μισπά και Ισμαήλ ο υιός του Νεθανίου και Ιωανάν και Ιωνάθαν οι υιοί του Καρηά και Σεραΐας ο υιός του Τανουμέθ και οι υιοί του Ιωφή του Νετωφαθίτου και Ιεζανίας υιός Μααχαθίτου τινός, αυτοί και οι άνδρες αυτών.

then they came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah; namely, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan, the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah, the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah, the son of the Maachathite, they and their men;

9 Και ώμοσε προς αυτούς Γεδαλίας ο υιός του Αχικάμ υιού του Σαφάν και προς τους άνδρας αυτών, λέγων, Μη φοβείσθε να ήσθε δούλοι των Χαλδαίων· κατοικήσατε εν τη γη και δουλεύετε εις τον βασιλέα της Βαβυλώνος και θέλει είσθαι καλόν εις εσάς.

and Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, “Fear not to serve the Chaldaeans; dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10 Εγώ δε, ιδού, θέλω κατοικήσει εν Μισπά, διά να παρίσταμαι ενώπιον των Χαλδαίων, οίτινες θέλουσιν ελθεί προς ημάς· και σεις συνάξατε οίνον και οπωρικά και έλαιον και βάλετε αυτά εις τα αγγείά σας και κατοικήσατε εν ταις πόλεσιν υμών, τας οποίας κρατείτε.

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldaeans, who shall come to us; but ye, gather ye in wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities which ye have taken.”

11 Παρομοίως πάντες οι Ιουδαίοι οι εν Μωάβ και οι μεταξύ των υιών Αμμών και οι εν Εδώμ και οι εν πάσι τοις τόποις, ότε ήκουσαν ότι ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος αφήκεν υπόλοιπον εις τον Ιούδαν και ότι κατέστησεν επ' αυτούς Γεδαλίαν τον υιόν του Αχικάμ υιού του Σαφάν,

Also when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant to Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,

12 τότε επέστρεψαν πάντες οι Ιουδαίοι εκ πάντων των τόπων όπου ήσαν διεσπαρμένοι και ήλθον εις την γην του Ιούδα, προς τον Γεδαλίαν εις Μισπά, και εσύναξαν οίνον και οπωρικά πολλά σφόδρα.

then all the Jews returned from all the places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits in abundance.

13 Ο δε Ιωανάν ο υιός του Καρηά και πάντες οι αρχηγοί των στρατευμάτων των εν τω αγρώ ήλθον προς τον Γεδαλίαν εις Μισπά,

And Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah, to Mizpah,

14 και είπον προς αυτόν, Εξεύρεις τωόντι ότι ο Βααλείς ο βασιλεύς των υιών Αμμών απέστειλε τον Ισμαήλ τον υιόν του Νεθανίου διά να σε φονεύση; Αλλ' ο Γεδαλίας ο υιός του Αχικάμ δεν επίστευσεν εις αυτούς.

and said to him, “Dost thou know that Baalis, the king of the children of Ammon, hath sent Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, to slay thee?” But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, believed them not.

15 Τότε Ιωανάν ο υιός του Καρηά ελάλησε κρυφίως προς τον Γεδαλίαν εν Μισπά, λέγων, Ας υπάγω τώρα και ας πατάξω τον Ισμαήλ τον υιόν του Νεθανίου και ουδείς θέλει μάθει αυτό· διά τι να σε φονεύση και ούτω πάντες οι Ιουδαίοι, οι συνηγμένοι περί σε, να διασκορπισθώσι και το υπόλοιπον του Ιούδα να απολεσθή;

And Johanan, the son of Kareah, spake to Gedaliah in private at Mizpah, saying, “Let me go, I pray thee, and smite Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered to thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?”

16 Αλλ' ο Γεδαλίας ο υιός του Αχικάμ είπε προς Ιωανάν τον υιόν του Καρηά, Μη κάμης το πράγμα τούτο, διότι ψευδή λέγεις περί του Ισμαήλ.

But Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, said to Johanan, the son of Kareah, “Thou shalt not do this thing, for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.”
