Ἔξοδος 1
1 Και ταύτα είναι τα ονόματα των υιών Ισραήλ, των εισελθόντων εις Αίγυπτον μετά του Ιακώβ· έκαστος μετά της οικογένειας αυτού εισήλθον.
Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt (euery man and his housholde came thither with Iaakob)
2 Ρουβήν, Συμεών, Λευΐ και Ιούδας,
Reuben, Simeon, Leui, and Iudah,
3 Ισσάχαρ, Ζαβουλών και Βενιαμίν,
Issachar, Zebulun, and Beniamin,
4 Δαν και Νεφθαλί, Γαδ και Ασήρ.
Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
5 Και πάσαι αι ψυχαί αι εξελθούσαι εκ του μηρού του Ιακώβ ήσαν ψυχαί εβδομήκοντα· ο δε Ιωσήφ ήτο ήδη εν Αιγύπτω.
So al the soules, that came out of the loines of Iaakob, were seuentie soules: Ioseph was in Egypt already.
6 Ετελεύτησε δε ο Ιωσήφ και πάντες οι αδελφοί αυτού, και πάσα η γενεά εκείνη.
Nowe Ioseph died and all his brethren, and that whole generation.
7 Και ηυξήνθησαν οι υιοί Ισραήλ και επληθύνθησαν, και επολλαπλασιάσθησαν, και ενεδυναμώθησαν σφόδρα, ώστε ο τόπος εγέμισεν απ' αυτών.
And the children of Israel brought foorth fruite and encreased in aboundance, and were multiplied, and were exceeding mightie, so that the land was full of them.
8 Εσηκώθη δε νέος βασιλεύς επί την Αίγυπτον, όστις δεν εγνώριζε τον Ιωσήφ.
Then there rose vp a newe King in Egypt, who knewe not Ioseph.
9 Και είπε προς τον λαόν αυτού, Ιδού, ο λαός των υιών Ισραήλ είναι πολύ πλήθος και ισχυρότερος ημών·
And he sayde vnto his people, Beholde, the people of the children of Israel are greater and mightier then we.
10 έλθετε, ας σοφισθώμεν κατ' αυτών, διά να μη πολλαπλασιασθώσι, και αν συμβή πόλεμος ενωθώσι και ούτοι μετά των εχθρών ημών και πολεμήσωσιν ημάς και αναχωρήσωσιν εκ του τόπου.
Come, let vs worke wisely with them, least they multiplie, and it come to passe, that if there be warre, they ioyne them selues also vnto our enemies, and fight against vs, and get them out of the land.
11 Κατέστησαν λοιπόν επ' αυτούς επιστάτας των εργασιών, διά να καταθλίβωσιν αυτούς με τα βάρη αυτών· και ωκοδόμησαν εις τον Φαραώ πόλεις αποθηκών, την Πιθώμ και την Ραμεσσή.
Therefore did they set taskemasters ouer them, to keepe the vnder with burdens: and they built the cities Pithom and Raamses for the treasures of Pharaoh.
12 Όσον όμως κατέθλιβον αυτούς, τόσω μάλλον επληθύνοντο και ηυξάνοντο. Και οι Αιγύπτιοι απεστρέφοντο τους υιούς Ισραήλ.
But the more they vexed them, the more they multiplied and grewe: therefore they were more grieued against the children of Israel.
13 Και κατεδυνάστευον οι Αιγύπτιοι τους υιούς Ισραήλ αυστηρώς·
Wherefore the Egyptians by crueltie caused the children of Israel to serue.
14 και κατεπίκραινον την ζωήν αυτών διά της σκληράς δουλείας εις τον πηλόν και εις τας πλίνθους, και εις πάσας τας εργασίας των πεδιάδων· πάσαι αι εργασίαι αυτών, με τας οποίας κατεδυνάστευον αυτούς, ήσαν αυστηραί.
Thus they made them weary of their liues by sore labour in clay and in bricke, and in al worke in the fielde, with all maner of bondage, which they layde vpon them most cruelly.
15 Και ελάλησεν ο βασιλεύς των Αιγυπτίων προς τας μαίας των Εβραίων, εκ των οποίων η μία ωνομάζετο Σεπφώρα, και η άλλη Φουά,
Moreouer the King of Egypt commanded ye midwiues of the Ebrewe women, (of which the ones name was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah)
16 και είπεν, Όταν μαιεύητε τας Εβραίας και ίδητε αυτάς επί της γέννας, εάν μεν ήναι αρσενικόν, θανατόνετε αυτό· εάν δε ήναι θηλυκόν, τότε ας ζήση.
And sayde, When ye doe the office of a midwife to the women of the Ebrewes, and see them on their stooles, if it be a sonne, then yee shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then let her liue.
17 Εφοβήθησαν δε αι μαίαι τον Θεόν και δεν έκαμνον ως είπε προς αυτάς ο βασιλεύς της Αιγύπτου, αλλ' άφινον ζώντα τα αρσενικά.
Notwithstanding ye midwiues feared God, and did not as the King of Egypt commanded them, but preserued aliue the men children.
18 Καλέσας δε ο βασιλεύς της Αιγύπτου τας μαίας, είπε προς αυτάς, Διά τι εκάμετε το πράγμα τούτο, και αφίνετε ζώντα τα αρσενικά;
Then the King of Egypt called for the midwiues, and sayde vnto them, Why haue yee done thus, and haue preserued aliue the men children?
19 Και απεκρίθησαν αι μαίαι προς τον Φαραώ, Ότι αι Εβραίαι δεν είναι ως αι γυναίκες της Αιγύπτου· διότι είναι εύρωστοι και γεννώσι πριν εισέλθωσιν εις αυτάς αι μαίαι.
And the midwiues answered Pharaoh, Because the Ebrewe women are not as the women of Egypt: for they are liuely, and are deliuered yer the midwife come at them.
20 Ο δε Θεός ηγαθοποίει τας μαίας· και επληθύνετο ο λαός και ενεδυναμούτο σφόδρα.
God therefore prospered the midwiues, and the people multiplied and were very mightie.
21 Και επειδή αι μαίαι εφοβούντο τον Θεόν, έκαμεν εις αυτάς οίκους.
And because ye midwiues feared God, therefore he made them houses.
22 Ο δε Φαραώ προσέταξε πάντα τον λαόν αυτού, λέγων, Παν αρσενικόν το οποίον γεννηθή, εις τον ποταμόν ρίπτετε αυτό· παν δε θηλυκόν, αφίνετε να ζη.
Then Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Euery man childe that is borne, cast yee into the riuer, but reserue euery maide childe aliue.
