Δανιήλ 4
1 Ναβουχοδονόσορ ο βασιλεύς, προς πάντας τους λαούς, έθνη και γλώσσας τους κατοικούντας επί πάσης της γής· Ειρήνη ας πληθυνθή εις εσάς.
Nebuchad-nezzar King vnto all people, nations and languages, that dwell in all the world, Peace be multiplied vnto you:
2 Τα σημεία και τα θαυμάσια, τα οποία έκαμεν εις εμέ ο Θεός ο Ύψιστος, ήρεσεν ενώπιόν μου να αναγγείλω.
I thought it good to declare the signes and wonders, that the hie God hath wrought toward me.
3 Πόσον είναι μεγάλα τα σημεία αυτού· και πόσον ισχυρά τα θαυμάσια αυτού· η βασιλεία αυτού είναι βασιλεία αιώνιος και η εξουσία αυτού εις γενεάν και γενεάν.
How great are his signes, and how mightie are his wonders! his kingdome is an euerlasting kingdome, and his dominion is from generation to generation.
4 Εγώ ο Ναβουχοδονόσορ ήμην αναπαυόμενος εν τω οίκω μου και ακμάζων εν τω παλατίω μου.
I Nebuchad-nezzar being at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace,
5 Είδον ενύπνιον, το οποίον με κατέπληξε, και οι διαλογισμοί μου επί της κλίνης μου και αι οράσεις της κεφαλής μου με ετάραξαν.
Saw a dreame, which made me afraide, and the thoughtes vpon my bed, and the visions of mine head troubled me.
6 Διά τούτο εξέδωκα πρόσταγμα να εισαχθώσιν ενώπιόν μου πάντες οι σοφοί της Βαβυλώνος, διά να φανερώσωσιν εις εμέ την ερμηνείαν του ενυπνίου.
Therefore made I a decree, that they should bring all the wise men of Babel before mee, that they might declare vnto me the interpretation of the dreame.
7 Τότε εισήλθον οι μάγοι, οι επαοιδοί, οι Χαλδαίοι και οι μάντεις· και εγώ είπα το ενύπνιον έμπροσθεν αυτών, αλλά δεν μοι εφανέρωσαν την ερμηνείαν αυτού.
So came the inchanters, the astrologians, the Caldeans and the sothsayers, to whom I tolde the dreame, but they could not shew me the interpretation thereof,
8 Ύστερον δε ήλθεν ο Δανιήλ ενώπιόν μου, του οποίου το όνομα ήτο Βαλτασάσαρ κατά το όνομα του Θεού μου, και εις τον οποίον είναι το πνεύμα των αγίων θεών· και έμπροσθεν τούτου είπα το ενύπνιον, λέγων,
Till at the last Daniel came before mee, (whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, which hath the spirite of the holy gods in him) and before him I tolde the dreame, saying,
9 Βαλτασάσαρ, άρχων των μάγων, επειδή εγνώρισα ότι το πνεύμα των αγίων θεών είναι εν σοι, και ουδέν κρυπτόν είναι δύσκολον εις σε, ειπέ τας οράσεις του ενυπνίου μου, το οποίον είδον, και την ερμηνείαν αυτού.
O Belteshazzar, chiefe of the enchanters, because I know, that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell mee the visions of my dreame, that I haue seene and the interpretation thereof.
10 Ιδού αι οράσεις της κεφαλής μου επί της κλίνης μου· Έβλεπον και ιδού, δένδρον εν μέσω της γης και το ύψος αυτού μέγα.
Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed. And beholde, I sawe a tree in the middes of the earth and the height thereof was great:
11 Το δένδρον εμεγαλύνθη και ενεδυναμώθη και το ύψος αυτού έφθανεν έως του ουρανού, και η θέα αυτού έως των περάτων πάσης της γης.
A great tree and strong, and the height thereof reached vnto heauen, and the sight thereof to the endes of all the earth.
12 Τα φύλλα αυτού ήσαν ώραία και ο καρπός αυτού πολύς και εν αυτώ ήτο τροφή πάντων· υπό την σκιάν αυτού ανεπαύοντο τα θηρία του αγρού, και εν τοις κλάδοις αυτού κατεσκήνουν τα πετεινά του ουρανού, και εξ αυτού ετρέφετο πάσα σαρξ.
The boughes thereof were faire and the fruite thereof much, and in it was meate for all: it made a shadow vnder it for the beastes of the fielde, and the foules of the heauen dwelt in the boughes thereof, and all flesh fedde of it.
13 Είδον εν ταις οράσεσι της κεφαλής μου επί της κλίνης μου και ιδού, φύλαξ και άγιος κατέβη εκ του ουρανού,
I sawe in the visions of mine head vpon my bed, and beholde, a watchman and an holy one came downe from heauen,
14 και εφώνησε μεγαλοφώνως και είπεν ούτω· Κόψατε το δένδρον και αποκόψατε τους κλάδους αυτού· εκτινάξατε τα φύλλα αυτού και διασκορπίσατε τον καρπόν αυτού· ας φύγωσι τα θηρία υποκάτωθεν αυτού και τα πετεινά από των κλάδων αυτού·
And cried aloude, and said thus, Hew downe the tree, and breake off his branches: shake off his leaues, and scatter his fruite, that the beastes may flee from vnder it, and the foules from his branches.
15 το στέλεχος όμως των ριζών αυτού αφήσατε εν τη γη, και τούτο με δεσμόν σιδηρούν και χαλκούν, εν τω τρυφερώ χόρτω του αγρού· και θέλει βρέχεσθαι με την δρόσον του ουρανού και η μερίς αυτού θέλει είσθαι μετά των θηρίων εν τω χόρτω της γής·
Neuerthelesse leaue the stumpe of his rootes in the earth, and with a band of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wet with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes among the grasse of the fielde.
16 η καρδία αυτού θέλει μεταβληθή εκ της ανθρωπίνης και θέλει δοθή εις αυτόν καρδία θηρίου· και επτά καιροί θέλουσι παρέλθει επ' αυτόν.
Let his heart be changed from mans nature, and let a beasts heart be giuen vnto him, and let seuen times be passed ouer him.
17 Το πράγμα τούτο είναι διά προστάγματος των φυλάκων και η υπόθεσις διά του λόγου των αγίων· ώστε να γνωρίσωσιν οι ζώντες, ότι ο Ύψιστος είναι Κύριος της βασιλείας των ανθρώπων, και εις όντινα θέλει δίδει αυτήν, και το εξουθένημα των ανθρώπων καθιστά επ' αυτήν.
The sentence is according to the decree of the watchmen, and according to the word of the holy ones: the demaunde was answered, to the intent that liuing men may knowe, that the most High hath power ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whomsoeuer he will, and appointeth ouer it the most abiect among men.
18 Τούτο το ενύπνιον είδον εγώ ο Ναβουχοδονόσορ ο βασιλεύς· και συ, Βαλτασάσαρ, ειπέ την ερμηνείαν αυτού· διότι πάντες οι σοφοί του βασιλείου μου δεν είναι ικανοί να φανερώσωσι προς εμέ την ερμηνείαν· συ δε είσαι ικανός· διότι το πνεύμα των αγίων θεών είναι εν σοι.
This is the dreame, that I King Nebuchad-nezzar haue seene: therefore thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof: for all the wisemen of my kingdome are not able to shewe mee the interpretation: but thou art able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
19 Τότε ο Δανιήλ, του οποίου το όνομα ήτο Βαλτασάσαρ, έμεινεν εκστατικός έως μιας ώρας, και οι διαλογισμοί αυτού ετάραττον αυτόν. Ο βασιλεύς ελάλησε και είπε, Βαλτασάσαρ, ας μη σε ταράττη το ενύπνιον ή η ερμηνεία αυτού. Ο Βαλτασάσαρ απεκρίθη και είπε, Κύριέ μου, το ενύπνιον ας επέλθη επί τους μισούντάς σε και η ερμηνεία αυτού επί τους εχθρούς σου.
Then Daniel (whose name was Belteshazzar) held his peace by the space of one houre, and his thoughts troubled him, and the King spake and said, Belteshazzar, let neither the dreame, nor the interpretation thereof trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and saide, My lord, the dreame be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
20 Το δένδρον, το οποίον είδες, το αυξηθέν και ενδυναμωθέν, του οποίου το ύψος έφθανεν έως του ουρανού και η θέα αυτού επί πάσαν την γην,
The tree that thou sawest, which was great and mightie, whose height reached vnto the heauen, and the sight thereof through all the world,
21 και τα φύλλα αυτού ήσαν ώραία και ο καρπός αυτού πολύς, και τροφή πάντων ήτο εν αυτώ, και υποκάτω αυτού κατώκουν τα θηρία του αγρού, εν δε τοις κλάδοις αυτού κατεσκήνουν τα πετεινά του ουρανού,
Whose leaues were faire and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meate for all, vnder the which the beastes of the fielde dwelt, and vpon whose branches the foules of the heauen did sit,
22 συ είσαι το δένδρον τούτο, βασιλεύ, όστις εμεγαλύνθης και ενεδυναμώθης· και η μεγαλωσύνη σου υψώθη και έφθασεν έως του ουρανού και η εξουσία σου έως των περάτων της γης.
It is thou, O King, that art great and mightie: for thy greatnesse is growen, and reacheth vnto heauen, and thy dominion to the endes of the earth.
23 Περί δε του ότι είδεν ο βασιλεύς φύλακα και άγιον καταβαίνοντα εκ του ουρανού και λέγοντα, Κόψατε το δένδρον και καταστρέψατε αυτό· μόνον το στέλεχος των ριζών αυτού αφήσατε εν τη γη, και τούτο με δεσμόν σιδηρούν και χαλκούν, εν τω τρυφερώ χόρτω του αγρού· και ας βρέχηται υπό της δρόσου του ουρανού και μετά των θηρίων του αγρού ας ήναι η μερίς αυτού, εωσού παρέλθωσιν επτά καιροί επ' αυτό·
Where as the King sawe a watchman, and an holy one, that came downe from heauen, and said, Hew downe the tree and destroy it, yet leaue the stumpe of the rootes thereof in the earth, and with a bande of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wette with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes of the fielde, till seuen times passe ouer him,
24 αύτη είναι η ερμηνεία, βασιλεύ, και αύτη η απόφασις του Υψίστου, ήτις έφθασεν επί τον κύριόν μου τον βασιλέα·
This is the interpretation, O King, and it is the decree of the most High, which is come vpon my lord the King,
25 και θέλεις διωχθή εκ των ανθρώπων και μετά των θηρίων του αγρού θέλει είσθαι η κατοικία σου, και θέλεις τρώγει χόρτον ως οι βόες και υπό της δρόσου του ουρανού θέλεις βρέχεσθαι· και επτά καιροί θέλουσι παρέλθει επί σε, εωσού γνωρίσης ότι ο Ύψιστος είναι Κύριος της βασιλείας των ανθρώπων και εις όντινα θέλει, δίδει αυτήν.
That they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beasts of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse as the oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dewe of heauen: and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, till thou knowe, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whom so euer he will.
26 Περί δε του ότι προσετάχθη να αφήσωσι το στέλεχος των ριζών του δένδρου· το βασίλειόν σου θέλει στερεωθή εν σοι, αφού γνωρίσης την ουράνιον εξουσίαν.
Where as they sayd, that one should leaue the stumpe of the tree rootes, thy kingdome shall remaine vnto thee: after that, thou shalt knowe, that the heauens haue the rule.
27 Διά τούτο, βασιλεύ, ας γείνη δεκτή η συμβουλή μου προς σε, και έκκοψον τας αμαρτίας σου διά δικαιοσύνης και τας ανομίας σου διά οικτιρμών πενήτων· ίσως και διαρκέση η ευημερία σου.
Wherefore, O King, let my counsell be acceptable vnto thee, and breake off thy sinnes by righteousnes, and thine iniquities by mercy toward the poore: lo, let there be an healing of thine errour.
28 Πάντα ταύτα ήλθον επί τον Ναβουχοδονόσορ τον βασιλέα.
All these things shall come vpon the King Nebuchad-nezzar.
29 Εν τω τέλει δώδεκα μηνών, ενώ περιεπάτει επί του βασιλικού παλατίου της Βαβυλώνος,
At the end of twelue moneths, he walked in the royall palace of Babel.
30 ελάλησεν ο βασιλεύς και είπε, Δεν είναι αύτη η Βαβυλών η μεγάλη, την οποίαν εγώ ωκοδόμησα διά καθέδραν του βασιλείου με την ισχύν της δυνάμεώς μου και εις τιμήν της δόξης μου;
And the King spake and sayde, Is not this great Babel, that I haue built for the house of the kingdome by the might of my power, and for the honour of my maiestie?
31 Ο λόγος ήτο έτι εν τω στόματι του βασιλέως και έγεινε φωνή εξ ουρανού λέγουσα, Προς σε αναγγέλλεται, Ναβουχοδονόσορ βασιλεύ· η βασιλεία παρήλθεν από σού·
While the worde was in the Kings mouth, a voyce came downe from heauen, saying, O King Nebuchad-nezzar, to thee be it spoken, Thy kingdome is departed from thee,
32 και θέλεις εκδιωχθή εκ των ανθρώπων και μετά των θηρίων του αγρού θέλει είσθαι η κατοικία σου· χόρτον ως οι βόες θέλεις τρώγει, και επτά καιροί θέλουσι παρέλθει επί σε, εωσού γνωρίσης ότι ο Ύψιστος είναι Κύριος της βασιλείας των ανθρώπων, και εις όντινα θέλει, δίδει αυτήν.
And they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beastes of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse, as the oxen, and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, vntill thou knowest, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it vnto whomsoeuer he will.
33 Εν αυτή τη ώρα ο λόγος εξετελέσθη επί τον Ναβουχοδονόσορ· και εξεδιώχθη εκ των ανθρώπων και χόρτον ως οι βόες έτρωγε και υπό της δρόσου του ουρανού το σώμα αυτού εβρέχετο, εωσού αι τρίχες αυτού ηυξήνθησαν ως αετών πτερά και οι όνυχες αυτού ως ορνέων.
The very same houre was this thing fulfilled vpon Nebuchad-nezzar, and hee was driuen from men, and did eate grasse as the oxen, and his body was wet with the dewe of heauen, till his heares were growen as eagles feathers, and his nailes like birds clawes.
34 Και εν τέλει των ημερών, εγώ ο Ναβουχοδονόσορ εσήκωσα τους οφθαλμούς μου προς τον ουρανόν και αι φρένες μου επέστρεψαν εις εμέ και ευλόγησα τον Ύψιστον και ήνεσα και εδόξασα τον ζώντα εις τον αιώνα, του οποίου η εξουσία είναι εξουσία αιώνιος και η βασιλεία αυτού εις γενεάν και γενεάν,
And at the ende of these dayes I Nebuchad-nezzar lift vp mine eyes vnto heauen, and mine vnderstanding was restored vnto me, and I gaue thankes vnto the most High, and I praysed and honoured him that liueth for euer, whose power is an euerlasting power, and his kingdome is from generation to generation.
35 και πάντες οι κάτοικοι της γης λογίζονται ενώπιον αυτού ως ουδέν, και κατά την θέλησιν αυτού πράττει εις το στράτευμα του ουρανού και εις τους κατοίκους της γης, και δεν υπάρχει ο εμποδίζων την χείρα αυτού ή ο λέγων προς αυτόν, Τι έκαμες;
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and according to his will he worketh in the armie of heauen, and in the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, nor say vnto him, What doest thou?
36 Εν τω αυτώ καιρώ αι φρένες μου επέστρεψαν εις εμέ· και προς δόξαν της βασιλείας μου επανήλθεν εις εμέ η λαμπρότης μου και η μορφή μου και οι αυλικοί μου και οι μεγιστάνές μου με εζήτουν, και εστερεώθην εν τη βασιλεία μου και μεγαλειότης περισσοτέρα προσετέθη εις εμέ.
At the same time was mine vnderstanding restored vnto me, and I returned to the honour of my kingdome: my glory and my beautie was restored vnto me, and my counsellours and my princes sought vnto me, and I was established in my kingdome, and my glory was augmented toward me.
37 Τώρα εγώ ο Ναβουχοδονόσορ αινώ και υπερυψώ και δοξάζω τον βασιλέα του ουρανού, διότι πάντα τα έργα αυτού είναι αλήθεια και αι οδοί αυτού κρίσις, και τους περιπατούντας εν τη υπερηφανία δύναται να ταπεινώση.
Now therefore I Nebuchad-nezzar prayse and extoll and magnifie the King of heauen, whose workes are all trueth, and his wayes iudgement, and those that walke in pride, he is able to abase.
