Πραξεις 25
1 Ο Φήστος λοιπόν, αφού ήλθεν εις την επαρχίαν, μετά τρεις ημέρας ανέβη εις Ιεροσόλυμα από της Καισαρείας.
Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem.
2 Ενεφανίσθησαν δε εις αυτόν ο αρχιερεύς και οι πρώτοι των Ιουδαίων κατά του Παύλου και παρεκάλουν αυτόν,
Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,
3 ζητούντες χάριν κατ' αυτού, να μεταφέρη αυτόν εις Ιερουσαλήμ, ενεδρεύοντες να φονεύσωσιν αυτόν καθ' οδόν.
And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.
4 Ο δε Φήστος απεκρίθη ότι ο Παύλος φυλάττεται εν Καισαρεία, και ότι αυτός ταχέως μέλλει να αναχωρήση εκείσε.
But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.
5 Όθεν οι δυνατοί μεταξύ σας, είπεν, ας καταβώσι μετ' εμού, και εάν υπάρχη τι εν τω ανθρώπω τούτω, ας κατηγορήσωσιν αυτόν.
Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
6 Και αφού διέτριψε μεταξύ αυτών υπέρ τας δέκα ημέρας, κατέβη εις Καισάρειαν, και τη επαύριον καθήσας επί του βήματος, προσέταξε να φερθή ο Παύλος.
And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
7 Και αφού ήλθε, παρεστάθησαν οι καταβάντες από Ιεροσολύμων Ιουδαίοι, επιφέροντες κατά του Παύλου πολλάς και βαρείας κατηγορίας, τας οποίας δεν ηδύναντο να αποδείξωσιν·
And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.
8 απολογουμένου εκείνου ότι ούτε εις τον νόμον των Ιουδαίων ούτε εις το ιερόν ούτε εις τον Καίσαρα έπραξα τι αμάρτημα.
While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.
9 Ο δε Φήστος, θέλων να κάμη χάριν εις τους Ιουδαίους, αποκριθείς προς τον Παύλον είπε· Θέλεις να αναβής εις Ιεροσόλυμα και εκεί να κριθής περί τούτων ενώπιόν μου;
But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
10 Και ο Παύλος είπεν· Επί του βήματος του Καίσαρος παρίσταμαι, όπου πρέπει να κριθώ. Δεν ηδίκησα κατ' ουδέν τους Ιουδαίους, καθώς και συ γνωρίζεις κάλλιστα·
Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
11 διότι εάν αδικώ και έπραξα τι άξιον θανάτου, δεν φεύγω τον θάνατον· αλλ' εάν δεν υπάρχη ουδέν εξ όσων ούτοι με κατηγορούσιν, ουδείς δύναται να με χαρίση εις αυτούς· τον Καίσαρα επικαλούμαι.
For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.
12 Τότε ο Φήστος, συνομιλήσας μετά του συμβουλίου, απεκρίθη· Τον Καίσαρα επικαλείσαι, προς τον Καίσαρα θέλεις υπάγει.
Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar shalt thou go.
13 Και αφού παρήλθον ημέραι τινές, Αγρίππας ο βασιλεύς και η Βερνίκη ήλθον εις Καισάρειαν διά να χαιρετήσωσι τον Φήστον.
And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Caesarea to salute Festus.
14 Ενώ δε διέτριβον εκεί ημέρας πολλάς, ο Φήστος ανέφερε προς τον βασιλέα τα περί του Παύλου, λέγων· Είναι τις άνθρωπος αφημένος εδώ δέσμιος υπό του Φήλικος,
And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
15 περί του οποίου, ότε υπήγα εις Ιεροσόλυμα, οι αρχιερείς και οι πρεσβύτεροι των Ιουδαίων ενεφανίσθησαν εις εμέ, ζητούντες καταδίκην εναντίον αυτού·
About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.
16 προς τους οποίους απεκρίθην ότι δεν είναι συνήθεια εις τους Ρωμαίους να παραδίδωσι κατά χάριν ουδένα άνθρωπον εις θάνατον, πριν ο κατηγορούμενος έχη τους κατηγόρους κατά πρόσωπον και λάβη καιρόν απολογίας περί του εγκλήματος.
To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
17 Αφού λοιπόν αυτοί συνήλθον εδώ, χωρίς να κάμω μηδεμίαν αναβολήν την ακόλουθον ημέραν καθήσας επί του βήματος, προσέταξα να φερθή ο άνθρωπος·
Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
18 περί του οποίου οι κατήγοροι παρασταθέντες δεν επέφεραν ουδεμίαν κατηγορίαν εξ όσων εγώ υπενόουν,
Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
19 αλλ' είχον κατ' αυτού ζητήματά τινά περί της ιδίας αυτών δεισιδαιμονίας και περί τινός Ιησού αποθανόντος, τον οποίον ο Παύλος έλεγεν ότι ζη.
But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Yahushua, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
20 Απορών δε εγώ εις την περί τούτου ζήτησιν, έλεγον αν θέλη να υπάγη εις Ιερουσαλήμ και εκεί να κριθή περί τούτων.
And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
21 Αλλ' επειδή ο Παύλος επεκαλέσθη να φυλαχθή εις την κρίσιν του Σεβαστού, προσέταξα να φυλάττηται, εωσού πέμψω αυτόν προς τον Καίσαρα.
But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.
22 Ο δε Αγρίππας είπε προς τον Φήστον· Ήθελον και εγώ να ακούσω τον άνθρωπον. Και εκείνος· Αύριον, είπε, θέλεις ακούσει αυτόν.
Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.
23 Την επαύριον λοιπόν, ότε ήλθεν ο Αγρίππας και η Βερνίκη μετά μεγάλης πομπής και εισήλθον εις το ακροατήριον μετά των χιλιάρχων και των εξόχων ανδρών της πόλεως, προσέταξεν ο Φήστος, και εφέρθη ο Παύλος.
And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus' commandment Paul was brought forth.
24 Τότε λέγει ο Φήστος· Αγρίππα βασιλεύ και πάντες οι συμπαρευρισκόμενοι μεθ' ημών, θεωρείτε τούτον, περί του οποίου όλον το πλήθος των Ιουδαίων με ώμίλησαν και εν Ιεροσολύμοις και εδώ, καταβοώντες ότι αυτός δεν πρέπει πλέον να ζη.
And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
25 Εγώ δε επειδή εύρον ότι δεν έπραξεν ουδέν άξιον θανάτου, και αυτός ούτος επεκαλέσθη τον Σεβαστόν, απεφάσισα να πέμψω αυτόν.
But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.
26 Περί του οποίου δεν έχω ουδέν βέβαιον να γράψω προς τον κύριόν μου· όθεν έφερα αυτόν ενώπιόν σας, και μάλιστα ενώπιον σου, βασιλεύ Αγρίππα, διά να έχω τι να γράψω, αφού γείνη η ανάκρισις.
Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my master. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
27 Διότι μοι φαίνεται άλογον, πέμπων δέσμιον, να μη φανερώσω και τα κατ' αυτού εγκλήματα.
For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.
