1 Μετά δε πέντε ημέρας κατέβη ο αρχιερεύς Ανανίας μετά των πρεσβυτέρων και μετά τινός Τερτύλλου ρήτορος, οίτινες ενεφανίσθησαν εις τον ηγεμόνα κατά του Παύλου.
And after five days, the high-priest Ananias came down with the elders, and one Tertulius an orator, who appeared before the governor against Paul.
2 Προσκληθέντος δε αυτού, ήρχισε να κατηγορή ο Τέρτυλλος, λέγων· Επειδή απολαμβάνομεν διά σου πολλήν ησυχίαν και γίνονται εις το έθνος τούτο λαμπρά πράγματα διά της προνοίας σου,
And when he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, "As by thee we enjoy much peace, and glorious things are done to this nation by thy prudent administration,
3 κατά πάντα και πανταχού ευγνωμονούμεν, κράτιστε Φήλιξ, μετά πάσης ευχαριστίας.
we acknowledge it upon all occasions and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
4 Αλλά διά να μη σε απασχολώ περισσότερον, παρακαλώ να ακούσης ημάς συντόμως με την επιείκειάν σου.
But that I may not trespass upon thee too far, I beg thou wouldst hear us a few words with thy wonted goodness.
5 Επειδή εύρομεν τον άνθρωπον τούτον ότι είναι φθοροποιός και διεγείρει στάσιν μεταξύ όλων των κατά την οικουμένην Ιουδαίων, και είναι πρωτοστάτης της αιρέσεως των Ναζωραίων,
For having found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ring-leader of the sect of the Nazarenes,
6 όστις και τον ναόν εδοκίμασε να βεβηλώση, τον οποίον και εκρατήσαμεν και κατά τον ημέτερον νόμον ηθελήσαμεν να κρίνωμεν.
and attempting to profane the temple, we apprehended him, and would have judged him according to our law.
7 Ελθών όμως Λυσίας ο χιλίαρχος απέσπασεν αυτόν μετά πολλής βίας εκ των χειρών ημών,
But Lysias the tribune came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands, commanding his accusers to come unto thee:
8 προστάξας τους κατηγόρους αυτού να έλθωσιν ενώπιόν σου· παρά του οποίου θέλεις δυνηθή εξετάσας αυτός να μάθης περί πάντων τούτων, περί των οποίων ημείς κατηγορούμεν αυτόν.
from whom thou mayst thyself by examining him come to the knowledge of all these things of which we accuse him."
9 Συνωμολόγησαν δε και οι Ιουδαίοι, λέγοντες ότι ταύτα ούτως έχουσι.
And the Jews also assented, saying, that these things were so.
10 Τότε ο Παύλος, αφού ο ηγεμών ένευσεν εις αυτόν να ομιλήση, απεκρίθη· Επειδή σε γνωρίζω ότι εκ πολλών ετών είσαι κριτής εις το έθνος τούτο, απολογούμαι περί εμαυτού προθυμότερον,
Then Paul, when the governor permitted him to speak, answered in this manner, "As I know that thou hast been many years a judge to this nation, I do the more chearfully answer for myself:
11 διότι δύνασαι να πληροφορηθής ότι δεν είναι πλειότεραι των δώδεκα ημερών αφού εγώ ανέβην διά να προσκυνήσω εν Ιερουσαλήμ·
because thou mayst know, that there are not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem:
12 και ούτε εν τω ιερώ εύρον εμέ διαλεγόμενον μετά τινός ή οχλαγωγούντα, ούτε εν ταις συναγωγαίς ούτε εν τη πόλει·
and they neither found me disputing with any one in the temple, or making sedition among the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
13 ουδέ δύνανται να φέρωσιν αποδείξεις περί όσων με κατηγορούσι τώρα.
nor can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.
14 Ομολογώ δε τούτο εις σε, ότι κατά την οδόν, την οποίαν ούτοι λέγουσιν αίρεσιν, ούτω λατρεύω τον Θεόν των πατέρων μου, πιστεύων εις πάντα τα γεγραμμένα εν τω νόμω και εν τοις προφήταις,
But this I confess unto thee, that after the way, which they call heresy, so do I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law, and the prophets:
15 ελπίδα έχων εις τον Θεόν, την οποίαν και αυτοί ούτοι προσμένουσιν, ότι μέλλει να γείνη ανάστασις νεκρών, δικαίων τε και αδίκων·
having hope in God, (which they themselves also expect) that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
16 εις τούτο δε εγώ σπουδάζω, εις το να έχω άπταιστον συνείδησιν προς τον Θεόν και προς τους ανθρώπους διαπαντός.
And on this account do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence both towards God and towards men.
17 Μετά πολλά δε έτη ήλθον διά να κάμω εις το έθνος μου ελεημοσύνας και προσφοράς·
Now after several years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
18 εν τω μεταξύ δε τούτων Ιουδαίοί τινές εκ της Ασίας εύρόν με κεκαθαρισμένον εν τω ιερώ, ουχί μετά όχλου ουδέ μετά θορύβου,
Upon which some Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude nor with tumult:
19 οίτινες έπρεπε να παρασταθώσιν ενώπιόν σου και να με κατηγορήσωσιν, εάν είχόν τι κατ' εμού.
who ought to have been here before thee, and make good their charge, if they had any thing against me.
20 Η αυτοί ούτοι ας είπωσιν εάν εύρον εν εμοί τι αδίκημα, ότε παρεστάθην ενώπιον του συνεδρίου,
Or let these themselves say, if they found any crime in me, when I stood before the sanhedrim;
21 εκτός εάν ήναι περί ταύτης της μιας φωνής, την οποίαν εφώναξα ιστάμενος μεταξύ αυτών, ότι περί αναστάσεως νεκρών εγώ κρίνομαι σήμερον από σας.
unless for this one expression, that I cried out when I stood among them, For the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day."
22 Ακούσας δε ταύτα ο Φήλιξ ανέβαλε την κρίσιν αυτών, επειδή ήξευρεν ακριβέστερα τα περί της οδού ταύτης, και είπεν· Όταν Λυσίας ο χιλίαρχος καταβή, θέλω αποφασίσει περί της διαφοράς σας,
And when Felix heard these things he put them off, (for he had been more particularly informed concerning this way of religion, ) and said, When Lysias the tribune comes down, I will thoroughly examine your matters.
23 και διέταξε τον εκατόνταρχον να φυλάττηται ο Παύλος και να έχη άνεσιν και να μη εμποδίζωσι μηδένα εκ των οικείων αυτού να υπηρετή ή να έρχηται προς αυτόν.
And he commanded the centurion to keep Paul secure, and to let him have some liberty, and to hinder none of his friends from assisting him or coming to him.
24 Μετά δε ημέρας τινάς ελθών ο Φήλιξ μετά της Δρουσίλλης της γυναικός αυτού, ήτις ήτο Ιουδαία, μετεκάλεσε τον Παύλον και ήκουσε παρ' αυτού περί της εις Χριστόν πίστεως.
Some days after Felix coming with his wife Drusilla, a Jewess, sent for Paul, and heard him concerning faith in Christ.
25 Ενώ δε αυτός ωμίλει περί δικαιοσύνης και εγκρατείας και περί της μελλούσης κρίσεως, ο Φήλιξ γενόμενος έμφοβος απεκρίθη· Κατά το παρόν ύπαγε, και όταν λάβω καιρόν θέλω σε μετακαλέσει,
And as he was reasoning of justice, temperance, and a future judgement, Felix trembled, and said, Go thy way for this time, and I will take a proper opportunity to call for thee again.
26 εν τούτω δε και ήλπιζεν ότι θέλουσι δοθή εις αυτόν χρήματα υπό του Παύλου, διά να απολύση αυτόν· όθεν και συχνότερα μετακαλών αυτόν ωμίλει μετ' αυτού.
And hoping also that money would be given him by Paul, that he might discharge him; he sent for him the more frequently, and conversed with him.
27 Μετά δε την συμπλήρωσιν δύο ετών ο Φήλιξ έλαβε διάδοχον τον Πόρκιον Φήστον· και θέλων να κάμη χάριν εις τους Ιουδαίους ο Φήλιξ, αφήκε τον Παύλον δεδεμένον.
But after two years Felix received a successor, Porcius Festus; and being willing to gain favor with the Jews lest Paul confined.
