Πραξεις 17
1 Διοδεύσαντες δε την Αμφίπολιν και Απολλωνίαν, ήλθαν εις Θεσσαλονίκην, όπου ήτο η συναγωγή των Ιουδαίων.
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
2 Και κατά την συνήθειάν του ο Παύλος εισήλθε προς αυτούς, και τρία σάββατα διελέγετο μετ' αυτών από των γραφών,
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
3 εξηγών και αποδεικνύων ότι έπρεπε να πάθη ο Χριστός και να αναστηθή εκ νεκρών και ότι ούτος είναι ο Χριστός Ιησούς, τον οποίον εγώ σας κηρύττω.
Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
4 Και τινές εξ αυτών επείσθησαν και ηνώθησαν μετά του Παύλου και του Σίλα, και εκ των θεοσεβών Ελλήνων πολύ πλήθος και εκ των πρώτων γυναικών ουκ ολίγαι.
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5 Φθονήσαντες δε οι μη πειθόμενοι Ιουδαίοι και λαβόντες μεθ' εαυτών κακούς τινάς ανθρώπους εκ των χυδαίων και οχλαγωγήσαντες, εθορύβουν την πόλιν και εφορμήσαντες εις την οικίαν του Ιάσονος, εζήτουν αυτούς διά να φέρωσιν εις τον δήμον·
But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
6 μη ευρόντες δε αυτούς, έσυραν τον Ιάσονα και τινάς αδελφούς επί τους πολιτάρχας, βοώντες ότι οι αναστατώσαντες την οικουμένην, ούτοι ήλθον και εδώ,
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
7 τους οποίους υπεδέχθη ο Ιάσων· και πάντες ούτοι πράττουσιν εναντίον των προσταγμάτων του Καίσαρος, λέγοντες ότι είναι βασιλεύς άλλος, ο Ιησούς.
Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cæsar, saying that there is another king, [one] Jesus.
8 Ετάραξαν δε τον όχλον και τους πολιτάρχας ακούοντας ταύτα,
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
9 και λαβόντες εγγύησιν παρά του Ιάσονος και των λοιπών, απέλυσαν αυτούς.
And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
10 Οι δε αδελφοί ευθύς διά της νυκτός εξέπεμψαν τον τε Παύλον και τον Σίλαν εις Βέροιαν, οίτινες ελθόντες υπήγον εις την συναγωγήν των Ιουδαίων.
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming [thither] went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 Ούτοι δε ήσαν ευγενέστεροι παρά τους εν Θεσσαλονίκη, καθότι εδέχθησαν τον λόγον μετά πάσης προθυμίας, εξετάζοντες καθ' ημέραν τας γραφάς αν ούτως έχωσι ταύτα.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12 Πολλοί μεν λοιπόν εξ αυτών επίστευσαν, και εκ των επισήμων Ελληνίδων γυναικών και εκ των ανδρών ουκ ολίγοι.
Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
13 Ως δε έμαθον οι από της Θεσσαλονίκης Ιουδαίοι ότι και εν τη Βεροία εκηρύχθη υπό του Παύλου ο λόγος του Θεού, ήλθον και εκεί και ετάραττον τους όχλους.
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
14 Και ευθύς τότε οι αδελφοί εξαπέστειλαν τον Παύλον να υπάγη έως εις την θάλασσαν· ο Σίλας δε και ο Τιμόθεος έμειναν εκεί.
And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.
15 Οι δε συνοδεύοντες τον Παύλον έφεραν αυτόν έως Αθηνών, και αφού έλαβον παραγγελίαν προς τον Σίλαν και Τιμόθεον να έλθωσι προς αυτόν όσον τάχιστα, ανεχώρησαν.
And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 Ενώ δε περιέμενεν αυτούς ο Παύλος εν ταις Αθήναις, το πνεύμα αυτού παρωξύνετο εν αυτώ, επειδή έβλεπε την πόλιν γέμουσαν ειδώλων.
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
17 Διελέγετο λοιπόν εν τη συναγωγή μετά των Ιουδαίων και μετά των θεοσεβών και εν τη αγορά καθ' εκάστην ημέραν μετά των τυχόντων.
Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
18 Τινές δε των Επικουρίων και των Στωϊκών φιλοσόφων συνήρχοντο εις λόγους μετ' αυτού, και οι μεν έλεγον· Τι θέλει τάχα ο σπερμολόγος ούτος να είπη; οι δέ· Ξένων θεών κήρυξ φαίνεται ότι είναι· διότι εκήρυττε προς αυτούς τον Ιησούν και την ανάστασιν.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
19 Και πιάσαντες αυτόν έφεραν εις τον Άρειον Πάγον, λέγοντες· Δυνάμεθα να μάθωμεν τις αύτη η νέα διδαχή, ήτις κηρύττεται υπό σου;
And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, [is]?
20 διότι φέρεις εις τας ακοάς ημών παράδοξά τινα· θέλομεν λοιπόν να μάθωμεν τι σημαίνουσι ταύτα.
For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
21 Πάντες δε οι Αθηναίοι και οι επιδημούντες ξένοι εις ουδέν άλλο ηυκαίρουν παρά εις το να λέγωσι και να ακούωσι τι νεώτερον.
(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
22 Σταθείς δε ο Παύλος εν μέσω του Αρείου Πάγου, είπεν· Άνδρες Αθηναίοι, κατά πάντα σας βλέπω εις άκρον θεολάτρας.
Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, [Ye] men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.
23 Διότι ενώ διηρχόμην και ανεθεώρουν τα σεβάσματά σας, εύρον και βωμόν, εις τον οποίον είναι επιγεγραμμένον, Αγνώστω Θεώ. Εκείνον λοιπόν, τον οποίον αγνοούντες λατρεύετε, τούτον εγώ κηρύττω προς εσάς.
For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
24 Ο Θεός, όστις έκαμε τον κόσμον και πάντα τα εν αυτώ, ούτος Κύριος ων του ουρανού και της γης, δεν κατοικεί εν χειροποιήτοις ναοίς,
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 ουδέ λατρεύεται υπό χειρών ανθρώπων ως έχων χρείαν τινός, επειδή αυτός δίδει εις πάντας ζωήν και πνοήν και τα πάντα·
Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 και έκαμεν εξ ενός αίματος παν έθνος ανθρώπων, διά να κατοικώσιν εφ' όλου του προσώπου της γης, και διώρισε τους προδιατεταγμένους καιρούς και τα οροθέσια της κατοικίας αυτών,
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 διά να ζητώσι τον Κύριον, ίσως δυνηθώσι να ψηλαφήσωσιν αυτόν και να εύρωσιν, αν και δεν είναι μακράν από ενός εκάστου ημών.
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 Διότι εν αυτώ ζώμεν και κινούμεθα και υπάρχομεν, καθώς και τινές των ποιητών σας είπον· Διότι και γένος είμεθα τούτου.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Γένος λοιπόν όντες του Θεού, δεν πρέπει να νομίζωμεν τον Θεόν ότι είναι όμοιος με χρυσόν ή άργυρον ή λίθον, κεχαραγμένα διά τέχνης και επινοίας ανθρώπου.
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
30 Τους καιρούς λοιπόν της αγνοίας παραβλέψας ο Θεός, τώρα παραγγέλλει εις πάντας τους ανθρώπους πανταχού να μετανοώσι,
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 διότι προσδιώρισεν ημέραν εν ή μέλλει να κρίνη την οικουμένην εν δικαιοσύνη, διά ανδρός τον οποίον διώρισε, και έδωκεν εις πάντας βεβαίωσιν περί τούτου, αναστήσας αυτόν εκ νεκρών.
Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by [that] man whom he hath ordained; [whereof] he hath given assurance unto all [men], in that he hath raised him from the dead.
32 Ακούσαντες δε ανάστασιν νεκρών, οι μεν εχλεύαζον, οι δε είπον· Περί τούτου θέλομεν σε ακούσει πάλιν.
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this [matter].
33 Και ούτως ο Παύλος εξήλθεν εκ μέσου αυτών.
So Paul departed from among them.
34 Τινές δε άνδρες προσεκολλήθησαν εις αυτόν και επίστευσαν, μεταξύ των οποίων ήτο και Διονύσιος ο Αρεοπαγίτης και γυνή τις ονόματι Δάμαρις και άλλοι μετ' αυτών.
Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which [was] Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
