Προς Τιμοθεον Β΄ 1
1 Παύλος, απόστολος Ιησού Χριστού διά θελήματος Θεού κατά την επαγγελίαν της ζωής της εν Χριστώ Ιησού,
Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, for proclaiming the promise of the Life which is in Christ Jesus:
2 προς Τιμόθεον το αγαπητόν τέκνον· είη χάρις, έλεος, ειρήνη από Θεού Πατρός και Χριστού Ιησού του Κυρίου ημών.
To Timothy my dearly-loved child. May grace, mercy and peace be granted to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 Ευχαριστώ τον Θεόν, τον οποίον λατρεύω από προγόνων μετά καθαράς συνειδήσεως, ότι αδιαλείπτως σε ενθυμούμαι εν ταις δεήσεσί μου νύκτα και ημέραν,
I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience--as my forefathers did--that night and day I unceasingly remember you in my prayers,
4 επιποθών να σε ίδω, ενθυμούμενος τα δάκρυά σου, διά να εμπλησθώ χαράς,
being always mindful of your tears, and longing to see you that I may be filled with joy.
5 ανακαλών εις την μνήμην μου την εν σοι ανυπόκριτον πίστιν, ήτις πρώτον κατώκησεν εν τη μάμμη σου Λωΐδι και εν τη μητρί σου Ευνίκη, είμαι δε πεπεισμένος ότι και εν σοι.
For I recall the sincere faith which is in your heart--a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and then in your mother Eunice, and, I am fully convinced, now dwells in you also.
6 Διά την οποίαν αιτίαν σε υπενθυμίζω να αναζωπυρής το χάρισμα του Θεού, το οποίον είναι εν σοι διά της επιθέσεως των χειρών μου·
For this reason let me remind you to rekindle God's gift which is yours through the laying on of my hands.
7 διότι δεν έδωκεν εις ημάς ο Θεός πνεύμα δειλίας, αλλά δυνάμεως και αγάπης και σωφρονισμού.
For the Spirit which God has given us is not a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of sound judgement.
8 Μη αισχυνθής λοιπόν την μαρτυρίαν του Κυρίου ημών μηδέ εμέ τον δέσμιον αυτού, αλλά συγκακοπάθησον μετά του ευαγγελίου με την δύναμιν του Θεού,
Do not be ashamed then to bear witness for our Lord and for me His prisoner; but rather share suffering with me in the service of the Good News, strengthened by the power of God.
9 όστις έσωσεν ημάς και εκάλεσε με κλήσιν αγίαν, ουχί κατά τα έργα ημών, αλλά κατά την εαυτού πρόθεσιν και χάριν, την δοθείσαν εις ημάς εν Χριστώ Ιησού προ χρόνων αιωνίων, (aiōnios g166)
For He saved us and called us with a holy call, not in accordance with our desserts, but in accordance with His own purpose and the free grace which He bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before the commencement of the Ages, (aiōnios g166)
10 φανερωθείσαν δε τώρα διά της επιφανείας του Σωτήρος ημών Ιησού Χριστού, όστις κατήργησε μεν τον θάνατον, έφερε δε εις φως την ζωήν και την αφθαρσίαν διά του ευαγγελίου,
but which has now been plainly revealed through the Appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus. He has put an end to death and has brought Life and Immortality to light through the Good News,
11 εις το οποίον ετάχθην εγώ κήρυξ και απόστολος και διδάσκαλος των εθνών.
of which I have been appointed a preacher, Apostle and teacher, to the Gentiles.
12 Διά την οποίαν αιτίαν και πάσχω ταύτα, πλην δεν επαισχύνομαι· διότι εξεύρω εις τίνα επίστευσα, και είμαι πεπεισμένος ότι είναι δυνατός να φυλάξη την παρακαταθήκην μου μέχρις εκείνης της ημέρας.
That indeed is the reason why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know in whom my trust reposes, and I am confident that He has it in His power to keep what I have entrusted to Him safe until that day.
13 Κράτει το υπόδειγμα των υγιαινόντων λόγων, τους οποίους ήκουσας παρ' εμού, μετά πίστεως και αγάπης της εν Χριστώ Ιησού.
Provide yourself with an outline of the sound teaching which you have heard from my lips, and be true to the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
14 Την καλήν παρακαταθήκην φύλαξον διά του Πνεύματος του Αγίου του ενοικούντος εν ημίν.
That precious treasure which is in your charge, guard through the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.
15 Εξεύρεις τούτο, ότι με απεστράφησαν πάντες οι εν τη Ασία, εκ των οποίων είναι ο Φύγελλος και ο Ερμογένης.
Of this you are aware, that all the Christians in Roman Asia have deserted me: and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16 Είθε ο Κύριος να δώση έλεος εις τον οίκον του Ονησιφόρου, διότι πολλάκις με παρηγόρησε και δεν επησχύνθη την άλυσίν μου,
May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus; for many a time he cheered me and he was not ashamed of my chain.
17 αλλ' ότε ήλθεν εις την Ρώμην, με εζήτησε μετά σπουδής πολλής και με εύρεν·
Nay, when he was here in Rome, he took great pains to inquire where I was living, and at last he found me.
18 είθε ο Κύριος να δώση εις αυτόν να εύρη έλεος παρά Κυρίου εν εκείνη τη ημέρα· και όσας διακονίας έκαμεν εν Εφέσω, συ εξεύρεις καλήτερα.
(The Lord grant that he may obtain mercy at His hands on that day!) And you yourself well know all the services which he rendered me in Ephesus.
