Βασιλειῶν Δʹ 6
1 Και είπον οι υιοί των προφητών προς τον Ελισσαιέ, Ιδού τώρα, ο τόπος, εις τον οποίον ημείς κατοικούμεν ενώπιόν σου, είναι στενός δι' ημάς·
Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha: “Behold, the place in which we live before you is too narrow for us.
2 ας υπάγωμεν, παρακαλούμεν, έως του Ιορδάνου, και εκείθεν ας λάβωμεν έκαστος μίαν δοκόν, και ας κάμωμεν εις εαυτούς εκεί τόπον, διά να κατοικώμεν εκεί. Ο δε είπεν, Υπάγετε.
Let us go as far as the Jordan, and let us each take from the forest a piece of timber, so that we may build for ourselves a place to live there.” And he said, “Go.”
3 Και είπεν ο εις, Ευαρεστήθητι, παρακαλώ, να έλθης μετά των δούλων σου. Και είπε, Θέλω ελθεί.
And one of them said, “Then you, too, should go with your servants.” And he answered, “I will go.”
4 Και υπήγε μετ' αυτών. Και ελθόντες εις τον Ιορδάνην, έκοπτον τα ξύλα.
And he went with them. And when they had arrived at the Jordan, they were cutting down wood.
5 Ενώ δε ο εις κατέβαλλε την δοκόν, έπεσε το σιδήριον εις το ύδωρ· και εβόησε και είπεν, Ω, κύριε· και τούτο ήτο δάνειον·
Then it happened that, while someone was cutting timber, the iron of the ax fell into the water. And he cried out and said: “Alas, alas, alas, my lord! For this thing was borrowed.”
6 είπε δε ο άνθρωπος του Θεού, Που έπεσε; Και έδειξε τον τόπον εις αυτόν. Τότε έκοψε σχίζαν ξύλου, και έρριψεν εκεί· και το σιδήριον επέπλευσε.
Then the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he indicated to him the place. Then he cut off a piece of wood, and he threw it in. And the iron floated up.
7 Και είπεν, Ανάλαβε προς σεαυτόν. Και εκτείνας την χείρα αυτού, έλαβεν αυτό.
And he said, “Take it.” And he extended his hand, and took it.
8 Ο δε βασιλεύς της Συρίας επολέμει εναντίον του Ισραήλ, και συνεβουλεύθη μετά των δούλων αυτού, λέγων, Εις τον δείνα και δείνα τόπον θέλω στρατοπεδεύσει.
Now the king of Syria was fighting against Israel, and he took counsel with his servants, saying, “In this and that place, let us set up an ambush.”
9 Και απέστειλεν ο άνθρωπος του Θεού προς τον βασιλέα του Ισραήλ, λέγων, Φυλάχθητι να μη περάσης τον τόπον εκείνον, διότι οι Σύριοι στρατοπεδεύουσιν εκεί.
And so the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying: “Take care not to pass by that place. For the Syrians are there in ambush.”
10 Και απέστειλεν ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ εις τον τόπον, τον οποίον είπε προς αυτόν ο άνθρωπος του Θεού και παρήγγειλε περί αυτού· και προεφυλάχθη εκείθεν ουχί άπαξ ουδέ δις.
And so the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God had told him, and he prevented it. And he preserved himself, concerning that place, not merely once or twice.
11 Και εταράχθη η καρδία του βασιλέως της Συρίας διά το πράγμα τούτο· και συγκαλέσας τους δούλους αυτού, είπε προς αυτούς, Δεν θέλετε με αναγγείλει, τις εξ ημών είναι υπέρ του βασιλέως του Ισραήλ;
And the heart of the king of Syria was disturbed over this matter. And calling together his servants, he said, “Why have you not revealed to me the one who is betraying me to the king of Israel?”
12 Και είπεν εις εκ των δούλων αυτού, Ουδείς, κύριέ μου βασιλεύ· αλλ' ο Ελισσαιέ ο προφήτης, ο εν τω Ισραήλ, αναγγέλλει προς τον βασιλέα του Ισραήλ τους λόγους, τους οποίους λαλείς εν τω ταμείω του κοιτώνός σου.
And one of his servants said: “By no means, my lord the king! Rather it is the prophet Elisha, who is in Israel, who is revealing to the king of Israel every word whatsoever that you will speak in your conclave.”
13 Και είπεν, Υπάγετε και ιδέτε που είναι, διά να στείλω να συλλάβω αυτόν. Και ανήγγειλαν προς αυτόν, λέγοντες, Ιδού, είναι εν Δωθάν.
And he said to them, “Go, and see where he is, so that I may send and capture him.” And they reported to him, saying, “Behold, he is in Dothan.”
14 Και απέστειλεν εκεί ίππους και αμάξας και στράτευμα μέγα, οίτινες, ελθόντες διά νυκτός, περιεκύκλωσαν την πόλιν.
Therefore, he sent horses, and chariots, and experienced soldiers to that place. And when they had arrived in the night, they encircled the city.
15 Και ότε εξηγέρθη το πρωΐ ο υπηρέτης του ανθρώπου του Θεού και εξήλθεν, ιδού, στράτευμα είχε περικυκλωμένην την πόλιν με ίππους και αμάξας. Και είπεν ο υπηρέτης αυτού προς αυτόν, Ω, κύριε, τι θέλομεν κάμει;
Now the servant of the man of God, arising at first light, went out and saw the army all around the city, with horses and chariots. And he reported it to him, saying: “Alas, alas, alas, my lord! What shall we do?”
16 Ο δε είπε, Μη φοβού· διότι πλειότεροι είναι οι μεθ' ημών παρά τους μετ' αυτών.
But he responded: “Do not be afraid. For there are more with us than with them.”
17 Και προσηυχήθη ο Ελισσαιέ και είπε, Κύριε, Άνοιξον, δέομαι, τους οφθαλμούς αυτού, διά να ίδη. Και ήνοιξεν ο Κύριος τους οφθαλμούς του υπηρέτου, και είδε· και ιδού, το όρος ήτο πλήρες ίππων και αμαξών πυρός περί τον Ελισσαιέ.
And when Elisha had prayed, he said, “O Lord, open the eyes of this one, so that he may see.” And the Lord opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire, all around Elisha.
18 Και ότε κατέβησαν προς αυτόν οι Σύριοι, προσηυχήθη ο Ελισσαιέ προς τον Κύριον και είπε, Πάταξον, δέομαι, τον λαόν τούτον με αορασίαν. Και επάταξεν αυτούς με αορασίαν, κατά τον λόγον του Ελισσαιέ.
Then truly, the enemies descended to him. But Elisha prayed to the Lord, saying: “Strike, I beg you, this people with blindness.” And the Lord struck them, so that they would not see, in accord with the word of Elisha.
19 Και είπε προς αυτούς ο Ελισσαιέ, Δεν είναι αύτη η οδός ουδέ αύτη η πόλις· έλθετε κατόπιν μου, και θέλω σας φέρει προς τον άνθρωπον, τον οποίον ζητείτε. Και έφερεν αυτούς εις την Σαμάρειαν.
Then Elisha said to them: “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will reveal to you the man whom you are seeking.” Then he led them into Samaria.
20 Και ότε ήλθον εις την Σαμάρειαν, είπεν ο Ελισσαιέ, Άνοιξον, Κύριε, τους οφθαλμούς τούτων, διά να βλέπωσι. Και ήνοιξεν ο Κύριος τους οφθαλμούς αυτών, και είδον· και ιδού, ήσαν εκ τω μέσω της Σαμαρείας.
And when they had entered into Samaria, Elisha said, “O Lord, open the eyes of these ones, so that they may see.” And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw themselves to be in the midst of Samaria.
21 Και ως είδεν αυτούς ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ, είπε προς τον Ελισσαιέ, Να πατάξω, να πατάξω, πάτερ μου;
And the king of Israel, when he had seen them, said to Elisha, “My father, should I not strike them?”
22 Ο δε είπε, Μη πατάξης· ήθελες πατάξει εκείνους, τους οποίους ηχμαλώτευσας διά της ρομφαίας σου και διά του τόξου σου; θες άρτον και ύδωρ έμπροσθεν αυτών, και ας φάγωσι και ας πίωσι και ας απέλθωσι προς τον κύριον αυτών.
And he said: “You should not strike them. For you did not capture them with your sword or bow, so that you might strike them. Instead, set bread and water before them, so that they may eat and drink, and then go to their lord.”
23 Και έθεσεν έμπροσθεν αυτών άφθονον τροφήν· και αφού έφαγον και έπιον, απέστειλεν αυτούς, και ανεχώρησαν προς τον κύριον αυτών. Και δεν ήλθον πλέον τα τάγματα της Συρίας εις την γην του Ισραήλ.
And a great preparation of foods was placed before them. And they ate and drank. And he dismissed them. And they went away to their lord. And the robbers of Syria no longer came into the land of Israel.
24 Μετά δε ταύτα ο Βεν-αδάδ βασιλεύς της Συρίας συνήθροισεν άπαν το στράτευμα αυτού, και ανέβη και επολιόρκησε την Σαμάρειαν.
Now it happened that, after these things, Benhadad, the king of Syria, gathered together his entire army, and he ascended and was besieging Samaria.
25 Έγεινε δε πείνα μεγάλη εν Σαμαρεία· και ιδού, επολιόρκουν αυτήν, εωσού κεφαλή όνου επωλήθη δι' ογδοήκοντα αργύρια και το τέταρτον ενός κάβου κόπρου περιστερών διά πέντε αργύρια.
And a great famine occurred in Samaria. And it was blockaded for a long time, until the head of a donkey was sold for eighty pieces of silver, and one fourth part of a pint of pigeons’ dung sold for five silver coins.
26 Και ενώ διέβαινεν ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ επί του τείχους, γυνή τις εβόησε προς αυτόν, λέγουσα, Σώσον, κύριέ μου βασιλεύ.
And as the king of Israel was passing by the wall, a certain woman cried out to him, saying, “Save me, my lord the king!”
27 Ο δε είπεν, Εάν ο Κύριος δεν σε σώση, πόθεν θέλω σε σώσει εγώ; μη εκ του αλωνίου ή εκ του ληνού;
And he said: “If the Lord does not save you, how am I able to save you? From the grain floor, or from the wine press?” And the king said to her, “What is the matter with you?” And she responded:
28 Και είπε προς αυτήν ο βασιλεύς, Τι έχεις; Η δε είπε, Η γυνή αύτη μοι είπε, Δος τον υιόν σου, διά να φάγωμεν αυτόν σήμερον, και αύριον θέλομεν φάγει τον υιόν μου·
“This woman said to me: ‘Give your son, so that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’
29 και εβράσαμεν τον υιόν μου και εφάγομεν αυτόν· είπον δε προς αυτήν την ακόλουθον ημέραν, Δος τον υιόν σου, διά να φάγωμεν αυτόν· η δε έκρυψε τον υιόν αυτής.
Therefore, we cooked my son, and we ate him. And I said to her on the next day, ‘Give your son, so that we may eat him.’ But she concealed her son.”
30 Και ως ήκουσεν ο βασιλεύς τους λόγους της γυναικός, διέρρηξε τα ιμάτια αυτού· και ενώ διέβαινεν επί του τείχους, ο λαός είδε, και ιδού, σάκκος έσωθεν επί της σαρκός αυτού.
When the king had heard this, he tore his garments, and he passed along the wall. And all the people saw the haircloth that he had worn underneath, beside his flesh.
31 Και είπεν, Ούτω να κάμη εις εμέ ο Θεός και ούτω να προσθέση, εάν η κεφαλή του Ελισσαιέ υιού του Σαφάτ σταθή επάνω αυτού σήμερον.
And the king said, “May God do these things to me, and may he add these other things, if the head of Elisha, the son of Shaphat, will remain on him this day!”
32 Ο δε Ελισσαιέ εκάθητο εν τω οίκω αυτού, και οι πρεσβύτεροι εκάθηντο μετ' αυτού· και απέστειλεν ο βασιλεύς άνδρα απ' έμπροσθεν αυτού· πριν δε έλθη προς αυτόν ο μηνυτής, αυτός είπε προς τους πρεσβυτέρους, Δεν βλέπετε ότι ούτος ο υιός του φονευτού έστειλε να αφαιρέση την κεφαλήν μου; βλέπετε, καθώς έλθη ο μηνυτής, κλείσατε την θύραν και εμποδίσατε αυτόν προς την θύραν· η φωνή των ποδών του κυρίου αυτού δεν είναι εξόπισθεν αυτού;
Now Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. And so he sent a man ahead. And before that messenger arrived, he said to the elders: “Do you not know that this son of a murderer is sending someone to cut off my head? Therefore, watch, and when the messenger arrives, close the door. And you shall not permit him to enter. For behold, the sound of his lord’s feet is behind him.”
33 Και ενώ έτι ελάλει μετ' αυτών, ιδού, κατέβη προς αυτόν ο μηνυτής· και είπεν, Ιδού, παρά Κυρίου είναι το κακόν τούτο· τι πλέον να ελπίσω εις τον Κύριον;
While he was still speaking to them, the messenger appeared who was sent to him. And he said: “Behold, such a great evil is from the Lord! What more should I expect from the Lord?”
