Παραλειπομένων Βʹ 24
1 Επτά ετών ηλικίας ήτο ο Ιωάς ότε εβασίλευσεν· εβασίλευσε δε τεσσαράκοντα έτη εν Ιερουσαλήμ· το δε όνομα της μητρός αυτού ήτο Σιβιά, εκ Βηρ-σαβεέ.
Joash was seven years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
2 Και έπραττεν ο Ιωάς το ευθές ενώπιον Κυρίου, πάσας τας ημέρας Ιωδαέ του ιερέως.
And Joash did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3 Και έλαβεν εις αυτόν ο Ιωδαέ δύο γυναίκας, και εγέννησεν υιούς και θυγατέρας.
And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begot sons and daughters.
4 Και μετά ταύτα ήλθεν εις την καρδίαν του Ιωάς να ανακαινίση τον οίκον του Κυρίου.
And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to restore the house of the LORD.
5 Και συναγαγών τους ιερείς και τους Λευΐτας, είπε προς αυτούς, Εξέλθετε εις τας πόλεις του Ιούδα, και συνάγετε από παντός του Ισραήλ αργύριον προς επισκευήν του οίκου του Θεού σας κατ' έτος, και επισπεύσατε το πράγμα· οι Λευΐται όμως δεν επέσπευσαν.
And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them: 'Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter.' Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.
6 Και εκάλεσεν ο βασιλεύς τον Ιωδαέ τον αρχηγόν και είπε προς αυτόν, Διά τι δεν εζήτησας παρά των Λευϊτών να εισπράξωσιν εκ του Ιούδα και εκ της Ιερουσαλήμ τον φόρον του Μωϋσέως, του δούλου του Κυρίου, και της συναγωγής του Ισραήλ, διά την σκηνήν του μαρτυρίου;
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and unto him: 'Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tax of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?'
7 Διότι η Γοθολία, η ασεβής, και οι υιοί αυτής κατέφθειραν τον οίκον του Θεού· και πάντα έτι τα αφιερώματα του οίκου του Κυρίου ανέθηκαν εις τους Βααλείμ.
For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the hallowed things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon the Baalim.
8 Έκαμον λοιπόν κατά προσταγήν του βασιλέως εν κιβώτιον, και έθεσαν αυτό εν τη πύλη του οίκου του Κυρίου έξω.
So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
9 Και διεκήρυξαν εις τον Ιούδαν και εις την Ιερουσαλήμ να εισφέρωσι προς τον Κύριον τον φόρον του Μωϋσέως του δούλου του Θεού, τον επιβληθέντα επί τον Ισραήλ εν τη ερήμω.
And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for the LORD the tax that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
10 Και ηυφράνθησαν πάντες οι άρχοντες και πας ο λαός, και εισέφερον και έρριπτον εις το κιβώτιον, εωσού γεμισθή.
And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
11 Ότε δε εφέρετο το κιβώτιον προς τους επιστάτας του βασιλέως διά χειρός των Λευϊτών, και ότε αυτοί έβλεπον ότι ήτο πολύ το αργύριον, ήρχετο ο γραμματεύς του βασιλέως και ο επιστάτης του ιερέως του πρώτου, και εξεκένονον το κιβώτιον και φέροντες έθετον αυτό πάλιν εις τον τόπον αυτού. Ούτως έκαμνον καθ' ημέραν και συνήγαγον αργύριον πολύ.
And it was so, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the chief priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it back to its place. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
12 Και έδιδεν αυτό ο βασιλεύς και ο Ιωδαέ εις τους ποιούντας το έργον της υπηρεσίας του οίκου του Κυρίου, και εμίσθονον κτίστας και ξυλουργούς διά να ανακαινίσωσι τον οίκον του Κυρίου· και σιδηρουργούς έτι και χαλκουργούς, διά να επισκευάσωσι τον οίκον του Κυρίου.
And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to repair the house of the LORD.
13 Και οι εργαζόμενοι το έργον ειργάζοντο, και διά χειρός αυτών προέβη το έργον της επισκευής· και αποκατέστησαν τον οίκον του Θεού εις την προτέραν αυτού κατάστασιν και εστερέωσαν αυτόν.
So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set up the house of God in its state, and strengthened it.
14 Και αφού ετελείωσαν, έφεραν το εναπολειφθέν αργύριον έμπροσθεν του βασιλέως και του Ιωδαέ, και εκ τούτου κατεσκεύασαν σκεύη διά τον οίκον του Κυρίου, σκεύη λειτουργίας και ολοκαυτώσεως και φιάλας και σκεύη χρυσά και αργυρά. Και προσέφερον ολοκαυτώματα εν τω οίκω του Κυρίου διά παντός, πάσας τας ημέρας του Ιωδαέ.
And when they had made an end, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels wherewith to minister, and buckets, and pans, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt-offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
15 Εγήρασε δε ο Ιωδαέ και ήτο πλήρης ημερών, και απέθανεν· εκατόν τριάκοντα ετών ηλικίας ήτο ότε απέθανε.
But Jehoiada waxed old and was full of days, and he died; a hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
16 Και έθαψαν αυτόν εν πόλει Δαβίδ, μετά των βασιλέων· επειδή έπραξε καλόν εν τω Ισραήλ και προς τον Θεόν και τον οίκον αυτού.
And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and His house.
17 Μετά δε τον θάνατον του Ιωδαέ ήλθον οι άρχοντες του Ιούδα και προσεκύνησαν τον βασιλέα· τότε ο βασιλεύς επήκουσεν αυτών·
Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and prostrated themselves before the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.
18 και εγκατέλιπον τον οίκον Κυρίου του Θεού των πατέρων αυτών, και ελάτρευον τα άλση και τα είδωλα· και ήλθεν οργή κατά του Ιούδα και της Ιερουσαλήμ, διά ταύτην την ανομίαν αυτών.
And they forsook the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols; and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.
19 Απέστειλε μεν προς αυτούς προφήτας, διά να επαναφέρωσιν αυτούς εις τον Κύριον, και διεμαρτυρήθησαν εναντίον αυτών· αλλά δεν έδωκαν ακρόασιν.
Yet He sent prophets to them, to bring them back unto the LORD; and they admonished them, but they would not give ear.
20 Και περιεχύθη το Πνεύμα του Θεού επί Ζαχαρίαν τον υιόν του Ιωδαέ του ιερέως, και σταθείς επάνωθεν του λαού, είπε προς αυτούς, Ούτω λέγει ο Θεός· Διά τι παραβαίνετε σεις τας εντολάς του Κυρίου; δεν θέλετε βεβαίως ευοδωθή· επειδή σεις εγκατελίπετε τον Κύριον, και αυτός εγκατέλιπεν εσάς.
And the spirit of God clothed Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said unto them: 'Thus saith God: Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, He hath also forsaken you.'
21 Και συνώμοσαν κατ' αυτού· και ελιθοβόλησαν αυτόν με λίθους διά προσταγής του βασιλέως εν τη αυλή του οίκου του Κυρίου.
And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
22 Και δεν ενεθυμήθη Ιωάς ο βασιλεύς το έλεος, το οποίον έκαμεν εις αυτόν Ιωδαέ ο πατήρ αυτού, αλλ' εθανάτωσε τον υιόν αυτού· ενώ δε απέθνησκεν, είπεν, Ο Κύριος ας ίδη και ας εκζητήση.
Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said: 'The LORD look upon it, and require it.'
23 Και εν τω τέλει του έτους ανέβη το στράτευμα της Συρίας εναντίον αυτού· και ήλθον επί τον Ιούδαν και επί την Ιερουσαλήμ, και εξωλόθρευσαν πάντας τους άρχοντας του λαού εκ μέσου του λαού, και έστειλαν πάντα τα λάφυρα αυτών προς τον βασιλέα της Δαμασκού.
And it came to pass, when the year was come about, that the army of the Arameans came up against him; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.
24 Αν και το στράτευμα της Συρίας ήλθε μετ' ολίγων ανδρών, ο Κύριος όμως παρέδωκε στράτευμα μέγα σφόδρα εις την χείρα αυτών, επειδή εγκατέλιπον Κύριον τον Θεόν των πατέρων αυτών· και εξετέλεσαν κρίσιν κατά του Ιωάς.
For the army of the Arameans came with a small company of men; and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment upon Joash.
25 Αφού δε ανεχώρησαν απ' αυτού, αφήσαντες αυτόν εν αρρωστίαις μεγάλαις, συνώμοσαν εναντίον αυτού οι δούλοι αυτού διά το αίμα των υιών Ιωδαέ του ιερέως, και εθανάτωσαν αυτόν επί της κλίνης αυτού, και απέθανε· και έθαψαν αυτόν εν πόλει Δαβίδ, δεν έθαψαν όμως αυτόν εν τοις τάφοις των βασιλέων.
And when they were departed from him — for they left him in great diseases — his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
26 Οι δε συνομόσαντες εναντίον αυτού ήσαν ούτοι Ζαβάδ ο υιός της Σιμεάθ της Αμμωνίτιδος και Ιωζαβάδ ο υιός της Σιμρίθ της Μωαβίτιδος.
And these are they that conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
27 Περί δε των υιών αυτού και του πλήθους των υπ' αυτού φορτίων, και της επισκευής του οίκου του Θεού, ιδού, είναι γεγραμμένα εν τοις υπομνήμασι του βιβλίου των βασιλέων. Εβασίλευσε δε αντ' αυτού Αμασίας ο υιός αυτού.
Now concerning his sons, and the multitude of the burdens against him, and the rebuilding of the house of God, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
