Προς Τιμοθεον Α΄ 2
1 Παρακαλώ λοιπόν πρώτον πάντων να κάμνητε δεήσεις, προσευχάς, παρακλήσεις, ευχαριστίας υπέρ πάντων ανθρώπων,
Moreover, first of all things, I exhort you, that prayers, supplications, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made in behalf of all men;
2 υπέρ βασιλέων και πάντων των όντων εν αξιώμασι, διά να διάγωμεν βίον ατάραχον και ησύχιον εν πάση ευσεβεία και σεμνότητι.
for kings and all who are in authority; in order that we may lead a peaceable and quiet life in all godliness and honesty.
3 Διότι τούτο είναι καλόν και ευπρόσδεκτον ενώπιον του σωτήρος ημών Θεού,
This is beautiful and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 όστις θέλει να σωθώσι πάντες οι άνθρωποι και να έλθωσιν εις επίγνωσιν της αληθείας.
who wishes all men to be saved, and to come to the perfect knowledge of the truth.
5 Διότι είναι εις Θεός, εις και μεσίτης Θεού και ανθρώπων, άνθρωπος Ιησούς Χριστός,
For there is one God, and there is also one mediator of God and men, the man, Christ Jesus,
6 όστις έδωκεν εαυτόν αντίλυτρον υπέρ πάντων, μαρτυρίαν γενομένην εν ωρισμένοις καιροίς,
the one having given himself a ransom for all, a testimony in due time;
7 εις το οποίον ετάχθην εγώ κήρυξ και απόστολος, αλήθειαν λέγω εν Χριστώ, δεν ψεύδομαι, διδάσκαλος των εθνών εις την πίστιν και εις την αλήθειαν.
in which I have been placed a herald and an apostle I speak the truth, I lie not, a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and in truth.
8 Θέλω λοιπόν να προσεύχωνται οι άνδρες εν παντί τόπω, υψόνοντες καθαράς χείρας χωρίς οργής και δισταγμού.
Therefore I wish that men in every place would all pray, holding up holy hands, without wrath and doubting:
9 Ωσαύτως και αι γυναίκες με στολήν σεμνήν, με αιδώ και σωφροσύνην να στολίζωσιν εαυτάς, ουχί με πλέγματα ή χρυσόν ή μαργαρίτας ή ενδυμασίαν πολυτελή,
likewise that the women adorn themselves in comely apparel, with modesty and prudence; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly garments;
10 αλλά το οποίον πρέπει εις γυναίκας επαγγελλομένας θεοσέβειαν, με έργα αγαθά.
but whatsoever becomes women professing godliness, through good works.
11 Η γυνή ας μανθάνη εν ησυχία μετά πάσης υποταγής·
Let a woman learn in silence in all submission;
12 εις γυναίκα όμως δεν συγχωρώ να διδάσκη, μηδέ να αυθεντεύη επί του ανδρός, αλλά να ησυχάζη.
but I do not permit a woman to dictate or usurp authority over her husband, but to be in silence.
13 Διότι ο Αδάμ πρώτος επλάσθη, έπειτα η Εύα·
For Adam was first created, then Eve.
14 και ο Αδάμ δεν ηπατήθη, αλλ' η γυνή απατηθείσα έγεινε παραβάτις·
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression;
15 θέλει όμως σωθή διά της τεκνογονίας, εάν μείνωσιν εις την πίστιν και αγάπην και αγιασμόν μετά σωφροσύνης.
but she shall be saved through child-bearing, if they may abide in faith and in divine love and in sanctification with prudence.
