Βασιλειῶν Αʹ 24
1 Και αφού επέστρεψεν ο Σαούλ από όπισθεν των Φιλισταίων, ανήγγειλαν προς αυτόν, λέγοντες, Ιδού, ο Δαβίδ είναι εν τη ερήμω Εν-γαδδί.
And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.
2 Τότε έλαβεν ο Σαούλ τρεις χιλιάδας ανδρών, εκλεκτών από παντός του Ισραήλ, και υπήγε να ζητή τον Δαβίδ και τους άνδρας αυτού επί τους βράχους των αγρίων αιγών.
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
3 Και ήλθεν εις τας μάνδρας των προβάτων επί της οδού, όπου ήτο σπήλαιον· και εισήλθεν ο Σαούλ διά να σκεπάση τους πόδας αυτού· ο δε Δαβίδ και οι άνδρες αυτού εκάθηντο εις το ενδότερον του σπηλαίου.
And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.
4 Και είπον οι άνδρες του Δαβίδ προς αυτόν, Ιδού, η ημέρα περί της οποίας ο Κύριος ελάλησε προς σε, λέγων, Ιδού, εγώ θέλω παραδώσει τον εχθρόν σου εις την χείρα σου, και θέλεις κάμει εις αυτόν όπως σοι φανή καλόν. Τότε εσηκώθη ο Δαβίδ και απέκοψε κρυφίως το κράσπεδον του επενδύματος του Σαούλ.
And the men of David said unto him, Behold, the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, and thou shalt do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily.
5 Και μετά ταύτα η καρδία του Δαβίδ εκτύπησεν αυτόν, επειδή είχεν αποκόψει το κράσπεδον του Σαούλ.
And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.
6 Και είπε προς τους άνδρας αυτού, Μη γένοιτο εις εμέ παρά Κυρίου να κάμω το πράγμα τούτο εις τον κύριόν μου, τον κεχρισμένον του Κυρίου, να επιβάλω την χείρα μου επ' αυτόν· διότι είναι κεχρισμένος του Κυρίου.
And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my lord, the LORD’S anointed, to put forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the LORD’S anointed.
7 Και εμπόδισεν ο Δαβίδ τους άνδρας αυτού διά των λόγων τούτων και δεν αφήκεν αυτούς να σηκωθώσι κατά του Σαούλ. Σηκωθείς δε ο Σαούλ εκ του σπηλαίου, υπήγεν εις την οδόν αυτού.
So David checked his men with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. And Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
8 Και μετά ταύτα σηκωθείς ο Δαβίδ εξήλθεν εκ του σπηλαίου και εβόησεν όπισθεν του Σαούλ, λέγων, Κύριέ μου βασιλεύ. Και ότε έβλεψεν ο Σαούλ οπίσω αυτού, ο Δαβίδ έκυψε με το πρόσωπον εις την γην και προσεκύνησεν αυτόν.
David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and did obeisance.
9 Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Σαούλ, Διά τι ακούεις τους λόγους ανθρώπων λεγόντων, Ιδού, ο Δαβίδ ζητεί το κακόν σου;
And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearkenest thou to men’s words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
10 Ιδού, εν τη ημέρα ταύτη είδον οι οφθαλμοί σου τίνι τρόπω σε παρέδωκεν ο Κύριος εις την χείρα μου σήμερον, εν τω σπηλαίω· και είπον τινές να σε θανατώσω· πλην ο οφθαλμός μου σε εφείσθη· και είπα, Δεν θέλω επιβάλει την χείρα μου κατά του κυρίου μου· διότι είναι κεχρισμένος του Κυρίου.
Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee today into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but [mine eye] spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’S anointed.
11 Ιδέ προσέτι, πάτερ μου, ιδέ μάλιστα το κράσπεδον του επενδύματός σου εν τη χειρί μου· επειδή, εκ του ότι απέκοψα το κράσπεδον του επενδύματός σου και δεν σε εθανάτωσα, γνώρισον και ιδέ ότι δεν είναι κακία ουδέ παράβασις εν τη χειρί μου και δεν ημάρτησα εναντίον σου· συ όμως θηρεύεις την ζωήν μου διά να αφαιρέσης αυτήν.
Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee, though thou huntest after my soul to take it.
12 Ας κρίνη ο Κύριος μεταξύ εμού και σου, και ας με εκδικήση ο Κύριος από σού· η χειρ μου όμως δεν θέλει είσθαι επί σέ·
The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
13 καθώς λέγει η παροιμία των αρχαίων, Εξ ανόμων εξέρχεται ανομία· όθεν η χειρ μου δεν θέλει είσθαι επί σε.
As saith the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
14 Οπίσω τίνος εξήλθεν ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ; οπίσω τίνος τρέχεις συ; οπίσω κυνός νενεκρωμένου, οπίσω ενός ψύλλου.
After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.
15 Ο Κύριος λοιπόν ας ήναι δικαστής και ας κρίνη μεταξύ εμού και σού· και ας ίδη, και ας δικάση την δίκην μου και ας με ελευθερώση εκ της χειρός σου.
The LORD therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.
16 Και αφού ετελείωσεν ο Δαβίδ λαλών τους λόγους τούτους προς τον Σαούλ, είπεν ο Σαούλ, Η φωνή σου είναι αύτη, τέκνον μου Δαβίδ; Και ύψωσεν ο Σαούλ την φωνήν αυτού και έκλαυσε.
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
17 Και είπε προς τον Δαβίδ, Συ είσαι δικαιότερος εμού· διότι συ ανταπέδωκας εις εμέ καλόν, εγώ δε ανταπέδωκα εις σε κακόν.
And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rendered unto me good, whereas I have rendered unto thee evil.
18 Και συ έδειξας σήμερον με πόσην αγαθότητα εφέρθης προς εμέ· διότι ενώ με απέκλεισεν ο Κύριος εις τας χείρας σου, συ δεν με εθανάτωσας.
And thou hast declared this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me up into thine hand, thou killedst me not.
19 Και τις, ευρών τον εχθρόν αυτού, ήθελεν αφήσει αυτόν να υπάγη την οδόν αυτού αβλαβώς; ο Κύριος λοιπόν να σοι ανταποδώση καλόν, δι' εκείνο το οποίον έκαμες εις εμέ σήμερον.
For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.
20 Και τώρα, ιδού, γνωρίζω ότι βεβαίως θέλεις βασιλεύσει, και η βασιλεία του Ισραήλ θέλει στερεωθή εν τη χειρί σου.
And now, behold, I know that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.
21 Τώρα λοιπόν όμοσόν μοι εις τον Κύριον, ότι δεν θέλεις εξολοθρεύσει το σπέρμα μου μετ' εμέ, και έτι δεν θέλεις αφανίσει το όνομά μου εκ του οίκου του πατρός μου.
Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father’s house.
22 Και ώμοσεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Σαούλ. Και ανεχώρησεν ο Σαούλ εις τον οίκον αυτού· ο δε Δαβίδ και οι άνδρες αυτού ανέβησαν εις το οχύρωμα.
And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
