Προς Κορινθιους Α΄ 14
1 Ακολουθείτε την αγάπην· και ζητείτε μετά ζήλου τα πνευματικά, μάλλον δε το να προφητεύητε.
Follow after love; and be emulous of the gifts of the Spirit, and especially, that ye may prophesy.
2 Διότι ο λαλών γλώσσαν αγνώριστον δεν λαλεί προς ανθρώπους, αλλά προς τον Θεόν· διότι ουδείς ακούει αυτόν, αλλά με το πνεύμα αυτού λαλεί μυστήρια·
For he that speaketh in a tongue, speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no one understandeth what is said; yet in the spirit, he speaketh a mystery.
3 ο δε προφητεύων λαλεί προς ανθρώπους εις οικοδομήν και προτροπήν και παρηγορίαν.
But he that prophesieth, speaketh unto men, for edification, and exhortation, and consolation.
4 Ο λαλών γλώσσαν αγνώριστον εαυτόν οικοδομεί, ο δε προφητεύων την εκκλησίαν οικοδομεί.
He that speaketh in a tongue, edifieth himself: and he that prophesieth, edifieth the church.
5 Θέλω δε πάντες να λαλήτε γλώσσας, μάλλον δε να προφητεύητε· διότι ο προφητεύων είναι μεγαλήτερος παρά ο λαλών γλώσσας, εκτός εάν διερμηνεύη, διά να λάβη οικοδομήν η εκκλησία.
Now I would that ye all spoke with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied; for greater is he that prophesieth, than he that speaketh in a tongue, unless he interpret; and if he interpret, he edifieth the church.
6 Και τώρα, αδελφοί, εάν έλθω προς εσάς λαλών γλώσσας, τι θέλω σας ωφελήσει, εάν δεν σας λαλήσω ή με αποκάλυψιν ή με γνώσιν ή με προφητείαν ή με διδαχήν;
And now, my brethren, if I should come among you, and speak to you in tongues, what should I profit you; unless I should speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophecy, or by doctrine?
7 Και τα άψυχα, όσα δίδουσι φωνήν, είτε αυλός είτε κιθάρα, εάν δεν δώσωσι διακεκριμένους τους φθόγγους, πως θέλει γνωρισθή το αυλούμενον ή το κιθαριζόμενον;
For even inanimate things that emit sound, whether pipe or harp, if they make no distinction between one sound and another, how will it be known, what is sung or what is harped?
8 Διότι εάν η σάλπιγξ δώση φωνήν ασαφή, τις θέλει ετοιμασθή εις πόλεμον;
And if the trumpet shall give an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for the battle?
9 Ούτω και σεις, εάν δεν δώσητε διά της γλώσσης φωνήν ευκατάληπτον, πως θέλει γνωρισθή το λαλούμενον; διότι θέλετε λαλεί εις τον αέρα.
So likewise if ye utter a discourse in a tongue, and there is no interpretation given, how will it be known what ye have said? Ye will have been as if ye spoke into the air.
10 Τόσα είδη φωνών είναι τυχόν εν τω κόσμω, και ουδέν εξ αυτών είναι ασήμαντον.
For lo, there are many kinds of tongues in the world; and there is not one of them without meaning.
11 Εάν λοιπόν δεν γνωρίσω την σημασίαν της φωνής, θέλω είσθαι προς τον λαλούντα βάρβαρος και ο λαλών βάρβαρος προς εμέ.
But if I do not know the import of the sound, I shall be a barbarian to him that speaketh, and the speaker will be a barbarian to me.
12 Ούτω και σεις, επειδή είσθε ζηλωταί πνευματικών, ζητείτε να περισσεύητε εν αυτοίς προς την οικοδομήν της εκκλησίας.
So also ye, since ye are emulous of the gifts of the Spirit for the edification of the church, seek ye to excel.
13 Διά τούτο ο λαλών γλώσσαν αγνώριστον ας προσεύχηται διά να γείνη ικανός να διερμηνεύη,
And let him that speaketh in a tongue, pray that he may interpret.
14 διότι εάν προσεύχωμαι με γλώσσαν αγνώριστον, το πνεύμά μου προσεύχεται, αλλ' ο νούς μου είναι ακαρποφόρητος.
For if I should pray in a tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is without fruits.
15 Τι πρέπει λοιπόν; Θέλω προσευχηθή με το πνεύμα, θέλω δε προσευχηθή και με τον νούν. Θέλω ψάλλει με το πνεύμα, θέλω δε ψάλλει και με τον νούν.
What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, and will pray with my understanding; and I will sing with my spirit, and will sing with my understanding.
16 Διότι εάν δοξολογήσης με το πνεύμα, εκείνος όστις έχει τάξιν ιδιώτου πως θέλει ειπεί το αμήν εις την ευχαριστίαν σου, μη εξεύρων τι λέγεις;
Otherwise, if thou blessest in the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of one unlearned, say Amen, on thy giving thanks; for he knoweth not what thou sayest?
17 Διότι συ μεν καλώς ευχαριστείς, ο άλλος όμως δεν οικοδομείται.
Thou blessest, indeed, very well; but thy neighbor is not edified.
18 Ευχαριστώ εις τον Θεόν μου ότι λαλώ πλειοτέρας γλώσσας παρά πάντας υμάς·
I thank God, that I speak with tongues more than all of you.
19 πλην εν τη εκκλησία πέντε λόγους προτιμώ να λαλήσω διά του νοός μου, διά να κατηχήσω και άλλους, παρά μυρίους λόγους με γλώσσαν αγνώριστον.
But in the church, I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others, than a myriad of words in a tongue.
20 Αδελφοί, μη γίνεσθε παιδία κατά τας φρένας, αλλά γίνεσθε νήπια μεν εις την κακίαν, τέλειοι όμως εις τας φρένας.
My brethren, be ye not children in your thoughts; but to evil things be ye infants; and in your thoughts be men.
21 Εν τω νόμω είναι γεγραμμένον ότι δι' ετερογλώσσων και διά ξένων χειλέων θέλω λαλήσει προς τον λαόν τούτον, και ουδέ ούτω θέλουσι με εισακούσει, λέγει Κύριος.
In the law it is written, With a foreign speech, and in another tongue, will I speak with this people; and even so also they will not hearken to me, saith the Lord.
22 Ώστε αι γλώσσαι είναι διά σημείον ουχί προς τους πιστεύοντας, αλλά προς τους απίστους· η προφητεία όμως είναι ουχί προς τους απίστους, αλλά προς τους πιστεύοντας.
Wherefore, tongues are established for a sign, not to the believers, but to them that believe not. But prophesyings are not for those who believe not, but for them that believe.
23 Εάν λοιπόν συνέλθη η εκκλησία όλη επί το αυτό και λαλώσι πάντες γλώσσας αγνωρίστους, εισέλθωσι δε ιδιώται ή άπιστοι, δεν θέλουσιν ειπεί ότι είσθε μαινόμενοι;
If therefore the whole church assemble, and they all speak with tongues, and there come in unlearned persons, or such as believe not, will they not say: These people are crazy?
24 Αλλ' εάν πάντες προφητεύωσιν, εισέλθη δε τις άπιστος η ιδιώτης, ελέγχεται υπό πάντων, ανακρίνεται υπό πάντων,
But if ye should be all prophesying, and one unlearned or an unbeliever should come among you, he is explored by you all, and rebuked by you all;
25 και ούτω τα κρυπτά της καρδίας αυτού γίνονται φανερά· και ούτω πεσών κατά πρόσωπον θέλει προσκυνήσει τον Θεόν, κηρύττων ότι ο Θεός είναι τωόντι εν μέσω υμών.
and the secrets of his heart are laid open to him: and so he will fall upon his face, and will worship God, and say: Verily, God is in you.
26 Τι πρέπει λοιπόν, αδελφοί; Όταν συνέρχησθε, έκαστος υμών ψαλμόν έχει, διδαχήν έχει, γλώσσαν έχει, αποκάλυψιν έχει, ερμηνείαν έχει· πάντα ας γίνωνται προς οικοδομήν.
I therefore say to you my brethren, that when ye assemble, whoever of you hath a psalm, let him speak; and whoever hath a doctrine, and whoever hath a revelation, and whoever hath a tongue, and whoever hath an interpretation. Let them all be for edification.
27 Εάν τις λαλή γλώσσαν αγνώριστον, ας κάμωσι τούτο ανά δύο ή το περισσότερον ανά τρεις και εκ διαδοχής, και εις ας διερμηνεύη·
And if any speak in a tongue, let two speak or at most, three; and let them speak one by one; and let some one interpret.
28 αλλ' εάν δεν ήναι διερμηνευτής, ας σιωπά εν τη εκκλησία, ας λαλή δε προς εαυτόν και προς τον Θεόν.
And if there is none to interpret, let him that speaketh in a tongue, be silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.
29 Προφήται δε ας λαλώσι δύο ή τρεις, και οι άλλοι ας διακρίνωσιν·
And as to prophets, let two or three speak, and let the rest judge.
30 εάν δε έλθη αποκάλυψις εις άλλον καθήμενον, ο πρώτος ας σιωπά.
And if to another sitting by, there should be a revelation, let the first stop speaking.
31 Διότι δύνασθε ο εις μετά τον άλλον να προφητεύητε πάντες, διά να μανθάνωσι πάντες και πάντες να παρηγορώνται·
For ye can all prophesy, one by one; so that every one may learn, and every one be comforted.
32 και τα πνεύματα των προφητών υποτάσσονται εις τους προφήτας·
For the spirit of the prophets is subject to the prophets.
33 διότι ο Θεός δεν είναι ακαταστασίας, αλλ' ειρήνης. Καθώς εν πάσαις ταις εκκλησίαις των αγίων.
Because, God is not the author of tumult, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
34 Αι γυναίκές σας ας σιωπώσιν εν ταις εκκλησίαις· διότι δεν είναι συγκεχωρημένον εις αυτάς να λαλώσιν, αλλά να υποτάσσωνται, καθώς και ο νόμος λέγει.
Let your women be silent in the church: for it is not permitted them to speak, but to be in subjection, as also the law saith.
35 Αλλ' εάν θέλωσι να μάθωσι τι, ας ερωτώσιν εν τω οίκω τους άνδρας αυτών· διότι αισχρόν είναι εις γυναίκας να λαλώσιν εν εκκλησία.
And if they wish to be informed on any subject, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is unbecoming for women to speak in the church.
36 Μήπως από σας εξήλθεν ο λόγος του Θεού, ή εις σας μόνους κατήντησεν;
What! was it from you that the word of God came forth? Or did it reach only to you?
37 Εάν τις νομίζη ότι είναι προφήτης ή πνευματικός, ας μάθη εκείνα τα οποία γράφω προς εσάς, ότι είναι εντολαί του Κυρίου.
And if any one among you thinketh that he is a prophet, or that he is spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, as being the precepts of our Lord.
38 αλλ' εάν τις αγνοή, ας αγνοή.
But if any one be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 Ώστε, αδελφοί, ζητείτε μετά ζήλου το προφητεύειν, και το λαλείν γλώσσας μη εμποδίζετε·
Wherefore, my brethren, be emulous of prophesying: and to speak with tongues, prohibit not.
40 πάντα ας γίνωνται ευσχημόνως και κατά τάξιν.
But let every thing be done with decency and regularity.
