Παραλειπομένων Αʹ 21
1 Αλλ' ο Σατανάς ηγέρθη κατά του Ισραήλ, και παρεκίνησε τον Δαβίδ να απαριθμήση τον Ισραήλ.
And Satan rose up against Israel: and moved David to number Israel.
2 Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Ιωάβ και προς τους άρχοντας του λαού, Υπάγετε, απαριθμήσατε τον Ισραήλ, από Βηρ-σαβεέ έως Δαν, και φέρετε προς εμέ, διά να μάθω, τον αριθμόν αυτών.
And David said to Joab, and to the rulers of the people: Go, and number Israel from Bersabee even to Dan, and bring me the number of them that I may know it.
3 Ο δε Ιωάβ απεκρίθη, Ο Κύριος να προσθέση επί τον λαόν αυτού εκατονταπλάσιον αφ' ό, τι είναι αλλά, κύριέ μου βασιλεύ, δεν είναι πάντες δούλοι του κυρίου μου; διά τι ο κύριός μου επιθυμεί τούτο; διά τι να γείνη τούτο αμάρτημα εις τον Ισραήλ;
And Joab answered: The Lord make his people a hundred times more than they are: but, my lord the king, are they not all thy servants: why doth my lord seek this thing, which may be imputed as a sin to Israel?
4 Ο λόγος όμως του βασιλέως υπερίσχυσεν επί τον Ιωάβ. Και ανεχώρησεν ο Ιωάβ, και περιελθών άπαντα τον Ισραήλ επέστρεψεν εις Ιερουσαλήμ.
But the king’s word rather prevailed: and Joab departed, and went through all Israel: and returned to Jerusalem.
5 Και έδωκεν ο Ιωάβ το κεφάλαιον της απαριθμήσεως του λαού εις τον Δαβίδ. Και πας ο Ισραήλ ήσαν χίλιαι χιλιάδες και εκατόν χιλιάδες ανδρών συρόντων μάχαιραν· ο δε Ιούδας, τετρακόσιαι εβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες ανδρών συρόντων μάχαιραν.
And he gave David the number of them, whom he had surveyed: and all the number of Israel was found to be eleven hundred thousand men that drew the sword: and of Juda four hundred and seventy thousand fighting men.
6 τους Λευΐτας δε και Βενιαμίτας δεν ηρίθμησε μεταξύ αυτών· διότι ο λόγος του βασιλέως ήτο βδελυκτός εις τον Ιωάβ.
But Levi and Benjamin he did not number: for Joab unwillingly executed the king’s orders.
7 Και εφάνη κακόν εις τους οφθαλμούς του Θεού το πράγμα τούτο· όθεν επάταξε τον Ισραήλ.
And God was displeased with this thing that was commanded: and he struck Israel.
8 Τότε είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Θεόν, Ημάρτησα σφόδρα, πράξας το πράγμα τούτο· αλλά τώρα, δέομαι, αφαίρεσον την ανομίαν του δούλου σου· διότι εμωράνθην σφόδρα.
And David said to God: I have sinned exceedingly in doing this: I beseech thee take away the iniquity of thy servant, for I have done foolishly.
9 Και ελάλησε Κύριος προς τον Γαδ τον βλέποντα του Δαβίδ, λέγων,
And the Lord spoke to Gad the seer of David, saying:
10 Ύπαγε και λάλησον προς τον Δαβίδ, λέγων, ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Τρία πράγματα εγώ προβάλλω εις σέ· έκλεξον εις σεαυτόν εν εκ τούτων, και θέλω σοι κάμει αυτό.
Go, and speak to David, and tell him: Thus saith the Lord: I give thee the choice of three things: choose one which thou wilt, and I will do it to thee.
11 Ήλθε λοιπόν ο Γαδ προς τον Δαβίδ και είπε προς αυτόν, Ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Έκλεξον εις σεαυτόν,
And when Gad was come to David, he said to him: Thus saith the Lord: choose which thou wilt:
12 ή τρία έτη πείνης, ή τρεις μήνας να φθείρησαι έμπροσθεν των πολεμίων σου και να σε προφθάνη η μάχαιρα των εχθρών σου, ή τρεις ημέρας την ρομφαίαν του Κυρίου και το θανατικόν εν τη γη, και τον άγγελον του Κυρίου εξολοθρεύοντα εις πάντα τα όρια του Ισραήλ. Τώρα λοιπόν ιδέ ποίον λόγον θέλω αναφέρει προς τον αποστείλαντά με.
Either three years’ famine: or three months to flee from thy enemies, and not to be able to escape their sword: or three days to have the sword of the Lord, and pestilence in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying in all the coasts of Israel: now therefore see what I shall answer him who sent me.
13 Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Γαδ, Στενά μοι πανταχόθεν σφόδρα· ας πέσω λοιπόν εις την χείρα του Κυρίου, διότι οι οικτιρμοί αυτού είναι πολλοί σφόδρα· εις χείρα δε ανθρώπου ας μη πέσω.
And David said to Gad: I am on every side in a great strait: but it is better for me to fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are many, than into the hands of men.
14 Έδωκε λοιπόν ο Κύριος θανατικόν επί τον Ισραήλ· και έπεσον εκ του Ισραήλ εβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες ανδρών.
So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel. And there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 Και απέστειλεν ο Θεός άγγελον εις Ιερουσαλήμ, διά να εξολοθρεύση αυτήν· και ενώ εξωλόθρευεν, είδεν ο Κύριος και μετεμελήθη περί του κακού, και είπε προς τον άγγελον τον εξολοθρεύοντα, Αρκεί ήδη· σύρε την χείρα σου. Ίστατο δε ο άγγελος του Κυρίου πλησίον του αλωνίου του Ορνάν του Ιεβουσαίου.
And he sent an angel to Jerusalem, to strike it: and as he was striking it, the Lord beheld, and took pity for the greatness of the evil: and said to the angel that destroyed: It is enough, now stop thy hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the thrashing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Και υψώσας ο Δαβίδ τους οφθαλμούς αυτού, είδε τον άγγελον του Κυρίου ιστάμενον αναμέσον της γης και του ουρανού, έχοντα εν τη χειρί αυτού την ρομφαίαν αυτού γεγυμνωμένην, εκτεταμένην επί Ιερουσαλήμ· και έπεσεν ο Δαβίδ και οι πρεσβύτεροι, ενδεδυμένοι σάκκους, κατά πρόσωπον αυτών.
And David lifting up his eyes, saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand, turned against Jerusalem: and both he and the ancients clothed in haircloth, fell down flat on the ground.
17 Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Θεόν, Δεν είμαι εγώ ο προστάξας να απαριθμήσωσι τον λαόν; εγώ βεβαίως είμαι ο αμαρτήσας και πράξας την κακίαν· ταύτα δε τα πρόβατα τι έπραξαν; επ' εμέ λοιπόν, Κύριε Θεέ μου, και επί τον οίκον του πατρός μου έστω η χειρ σου, και μη επί τον λαόν σου προς απώλειαν.
And David said to God: Am not I he that commanded the people to be numbered? It is I that have sinned: it is I that have done the evil: but as for this flock, what hath it deserved? O Lord my God, let thy hand be turned, I beseech thee, upon me, and upon my father’s house: and let not thy people be destroyed.
18 Τότε ο άγγελος του Κυρίου προσέταξε τον Γαδ να είπη προς τον Δαβίδ, να αναβή ο Δαβίδ και να στήση θυσιαστήριον εις τον Κύριον εν τω αλωνίω του Ορνάν του Ιεβουσαίου.
And the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to tell David, to go up, and build an altar to the Lord God in the thrashingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 Και ανέβη ο Δαβίδ, κατά τον λόγον του Γαδ, τον οποίον ελάλησεν εν ονόματι Κυρίου.
And David went up, according to the word of Gad, which he spoke to him in the name of the Lord.
20 Και στραφείς ο Ορνάν είδε τον άγγελον· και εκρύφθησαν οι τέσσαρες υιοί αυτού μετ' αυτού. Ο δε Ορνάν ηλώνιζε σίτον.
Now when Ornan looked up, and saw the angel, he and his four sons hid themselves: for at that time he was thrashing wheat in the floor.
21 Και καθώς ήλθεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Ορνάν, αναβλέψας ο Ορνάν και ιδών τον Δαβίδ, εξήλθεν εκ του αλωνίου και προσεκύνησε τον Δαβίδ κατά πρόσωπον έως εδάφους.
And as David was coming to Ornan, Ornan saw him, and went out of the thrashingfloor to meet him, and bowed down to him with his face to the ground.
22 Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Ορνάν, Δος μοι τον τόπον του αλωνίου, διά να οικοδομήσω εν αυτώ θυσιαστήριον εις τον Κύριον· δος μοι αυτόν εις την αξίαν τιμήν· διά να σταθή η πληγή από του λαού.
And David said to him: Give me this place of thy thrashingfloor, that I may build therein an altar to the Lord: but thou shalt take of me as much money as it is worth, that the plague may cease from the people.
23 Και είπεν ο Ορνάν προς τον Δαβίδ, Λάβε αυτό εις σεαυτόν, και ας κάμη ο κύριός μου ο βασιλεύς το αρεστόν εις τους οφθαλμούς αυτού· Ιδού, δίδω τους βόας διά ολοκαύτωμα και τα αλωνικά εργαλεία διά ξύλα και τον σίτον διά προσφοράν εξ αλφίτων· τα πάντα δίδω.
And Ornan said to David: Take it, and let my lord the king do all that pleaseth him: and moreover the oxen also I give for a holocaust, and the drays for wood, and the wheat for the sacrifice: I will give it all willingly.
24 Ο δε βασιλεύς Δαβίδ είπε προς τον Ορνάν, Ουχί· αλλ' εξάπαντος θέλω αγοράσει αυτό εις την αξίαν τιμήν· διότι δεν θέλω λάβει το σον διά τον Κύριον, ουδέ θέλω προσφέρει ολοκαύτωμα δωρεάν.
And king David said to him: It shall not be so, but I will give thee money as much as it is worth: for I must not take it from thee, and so offer to the Lord holocausts free cost.
25 Και έδωκεν ο Δαβίδ εις τον Ορνάν, διά τον τόπον, εξακοσίους σίκλους χρυσίου κατά βάρος.
So David gave to Ornan for the place, six hundred sicles of gold of just weight.
26 Και ωκοδόμησεν εκεί ο Δαβίδ θυσιαστήριον εις τον Κύριον, και προσέφερεν ολοκαυτώματα και ειρηνικάς προσφοράς και επεκαλέσθη τον Κύριον· και επήκουσεν αυτού, αποστείλας εξ ουρανού πυρ επί το θυσιαστήριον της ολοκαυτώσεως.
And he built there an altar to the Lord: and he offered holocausts, and peace offerings, and he called upon the Lord, and he heard him by sending Are from heaven upon the altar of the holocaust.
27 Και προσέταξε Κύριος τον άγγελον, και έστρεψε την ρομφαίαν αυτού εις την θήκην αυτής.
And the Lord commanded the angel: and he put up his sword again into the sheath.
28 Κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν, ότε ο Δαβίδ είδεν ότι ο Κύριος επήκουσεν αυτού εν τω αλωνίω του Ορνάν του Ιεβουσαίου, εθυσίασεν εκεί.
And David seeing that the Lord had heard him in the thrashingfloor of Oman the Jebusite, forthwith offered victims there.
29 Διότι η σκηνή του Κυρίου, την οποίαν έκαμεν ο Μωϋσής εν τη ερήμω, και το θυσιαστήριον της ολοκαυτώσεως ήσαν κατά τον καιρόν εκείνον εν τω υψηλώ τόπω εν Γαβαών.
But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses made in the desert, and the altar of holocausts, was at that time in the high place of Gabaon.
30 Και δεν ηδύνατο ο Δαβίδ να υπάγη ενώπιον αυτής διά να ερωτήση τον Θεόν, επειδή εφοβείτο εξ αιτίας της ρομφαίας του αγγέλου του Κυρίου.
And David could not go to the altar there to pray to God: for he was seized with an exceeding great fear, seeing the sword of the angel of the Lord.
