Παροιμίαι 15
1 ὀργὴ ἀπόλλυσιν καὶ φρονίμους ἀπόκρισις δὲ ὑποπίπτουσα ἀποστρέφει θυμόν λόγος δὲ λυπηρὸς ἐγείρει ὀργάς
A soft answer turns back fury, And a grievous word raises up anger.
2 γλῶσσα σοφῶν καλὰ ἐπίσταται στόμα δὲ ἀφρόνων ἀναγγελεῖ κακά
The tongue of the wise makes knowledge good, And the mouth of fools utters folly.
3 ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ὀφθαλμοὶ κυρίου σκοπεύουσιν κακούς τε καὶ ἀγαθούς
The eyes of YHWH are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.
4 ἴασις γλώσσης δένδρον ζωῆς ὁ δὲ συντηρῶν αὐτὴν πλησθήσεται πνεύματος
A healed tongue [is] a tree of life, And perverseness in it—a breach in the spirit.
5 ἄφρων μυκτηρίζει παιδείαν πατρός ὁ δὲ φυλάσσων ἐντολὰς πανουργότερος
A fool despises the instruction of his father, And whoever is regarding reproof is prudent.
6 ἐν πλεοναζούσῃ δικαιοσύνῃ ἰσχὺς πολλή οἱ δὲ ἀσεβεῖς ὁλόρριζοι ἐκ γῆς ὀλοῦνται οἴκοις δικαίων ἰσχὺς πολλή καρποὶ δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἀπολοῦνται
Abundant strength [is in] the house of the righteous, And in the increase of the wicked—trouble.
7 χείλη σοφῶν δέδεται αἰσθήσει καρδίαι δὲ ἀφρόνων οὐκ ἀσφαλεῖς
The lips of the wise scatter knowledge, And the heart of fools [is] not right.
8 θυσίαι ἀσεβῶν βδέλυγμα κυρίῳ εὐχαὶ δὲ κατευθυνόντων δεκταὶ παρ’ αὐτῷ
The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to YHWH, And the prayer of the upright [is] His delight.
9 βδέλυγμα κυρίῳ ὁδοὶ ἀσεβοῦς διώκοντας δὲ δικαιοσύνην ἀγαπᾷ
The way of the wicked [is] an abomination to YHWH, And He loves whoever is pursuing righteousness.
10 παιδεία ἀκάκου γνωρίζεται ὑπὸ τῶν παριόντων οἱ δὲ μισοῦντες ἐλέγχους τελευτῶσιν αἰσχρῶς
Discipline [is] grievous to him who is forsaking the path, Whoever is hating reproof dies.
Sheol and destruction [are] before YHWH, Surely also the hearts of the sons of men. (Sheol h7585)
12 οὐκ ἀγαπήσει ἀπαίδευτος τοὺς ἐλέγχοντας αὐτόν μετὰ δὲ σοφῶν οὐχ ὁμιλήσει
A scorner does not love his reprover, He does not go to the wise.
13 καρδίας εὐφραινομένης πρόσωπον θάλλει ἐν δὲ λύπαις οὔσης σκυθρωπάζει
A joyful heart makes the face glad, And the spirit is struck by grief of heart.
14 καρδία ὀρθὴ ζητεῖ αἴσθησιν στόμα δὲ ἀπαιδεύτων γνώσεται κακά
The heart of the intelligent seeks knowledge, And the mouth of fools enjoys folly.
15 πάντα τὸν χρόνον οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τῶν κακῶν προσδέχονται κακά οἱ δὲ ἀγαθοὶ ἡσυχάζουσιν διὰ παντός
All the days of the afflicted [are] evil, And gladness of heart [is] a perpetual banquet.
16 κρείσσων μικρὰ μερὶς μετὰ φόβου κυρίου ἢ θησαυροὶ μεγάλοι μετὰ ἀφοβίας
Better [is] a little with the fear of YHWH, Than much treasure, and tumult with it.
17 κρείσσων ξενισμὸς λαχάνων πρὸς φιλίαν καὶ χάριν ἢ παράθεσις μόσχων μετὰ ἔχθρας
Better [is] an allowance of green herbs and love there, Than a fatted ox, and hatred with it.
18 ἀνὴρ θυμώδης παρασκευάζει μάχας μακρόθυμος δὲ καὶ τὴν μέλλουσαν καταπραΰνει μακρόθυμος ἀνὴρ κατασβέσει κρίσεις ὁ δὲ ἀσεβὴς ἐγείρει μᾶλλον
A man of fury stirs up contention, And the slow to anger appeases strife.
19 ὁδοὶ ἀεργῶν ἐστρωμέναι ἀκάνθαις αἱ δὲ τῶν ἀνδρείων τετριμμέναι
The way of the slothful [is] as a hedge of briers, And the path of the upright is raised up.
20 υἱὸς σοφὸς εὐφραίνει πατέρα υἱὸς δὲ ἄφρων μυκτηρίζει μητέρα αὐτοῦ
A wise son makes a father glad. And a foolish man is despising his mother.
21 ἀνοήτου τρίβοι ἐνδεεῖς φρενῶν ἀνὴρ δὲ φρόνιμος κατευθύνων πορεύεται
Folly is joy to one lacking heart, And a man of intelligence directs [his] going.
22 ὑπερτίθενται λογισμοὺς οἱ μὴ τιμῶντες συνέδρια ἐν δὲ καρδίαις βουλευομένων μένει βουλή
The making void of purposes [is] without counsel, And in a multitude of counselors it is established.
23 οὐ μὴ ὑπακούσῃ ὁ κακὸς αὐτῇ οὐδὲ μὴ εἴπῃ καίριόν τι καὶ καλὸν τῷ κοινῷ
Joy [is] to a man in the answer of his mouth, And a word in its season—how good!
A path of life [is] on high for the wise, To turn aside from Sheol beneath. (Sheol h7585)
25 οἴκους ὑβριστῶν κατασπᾷ κύριος ἐστήρισεν δὲ ὅριον χήρας
YHWH pulls down the house of the proud, And He sets up the border of the widow.
26 βδέλυγμα κυρίῳ λογισμὸς ἄδικος ἁγνῶν δὲ ῥήσεις σεμναί
Thoughts of wickedness [are] an abomination to YHWH, And sayings of pleasantness [are] pure.
27 ἐξόλλυσιν ἑαυτὸν ὁ δωρολήμπτης ὁ δὲ μισῶν δώρων λήμψεις σῴζεται ἐλεημοσύναις καὶ πίστεσιν ἀποκαθαίρονται ἁμαρτίαι τῷ δὲ φόβῳ κυρίου ἐκκλίνει πᾶς ἀπὸ κακοῦ
A dishonest gainer is troubling his house, And whoever is hating gifts lives.
28 καρδίαι δικαίων μελετῶσιν πίστεις στόμα δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἀποκρίνεται κακά δεκταὶ παρὰ κυρίῳ ὁδοὶ ἀνθρώπων δικαίων διὰ δὲ αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἐχθροὶ φίλοι γίνονται
The heart of the righteous meditates to answer, And the mouth of the wicked utters evil things.
29 μακρὰν ἀπέχει ὁ θεὸς ἀπὸ ἀσεβῶν εὐχαῖς δὲ δικαίων ἐπακούει κρείσσων ὀλίγη λῆμψις μετὰ δικαιοσύνης ἢ πολλὰ γενήματα μετὰ ἀδικίας καρδία ἀνδρὸς λογιζέσθω δίκαια ἵνα ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ διορθωθῇ τὰ διαβήματα αὐτοῦ
YHWH [is] far from the wicked, And He hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 θεωρῶν ὀφθαλμὸς καλὰ εὐφραίνει καρδίαν φήμη δὲ ἀγαθὴ πιαίνει ὀστᾶ
The light of the eyes makes the heart glad, A good report makes the bone fat.
An ear that is hearing the reproof of life Lodges among the wise.
32 ὃς ἀπωθεῖται παιδείαν μισεῖ ἑαυτόν ὁ δὲ τηρῶν ἐλέγχους ἀγαπᾷ ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ
Whoever is refusing instruction is despising his soul, And whoever is hearing reproof Is getting understanding.
33 φόβος θεοῦ παιδεία καὶ σοφία καὶ ἀρχὴ δόξης ἀποκριθήσεται αὐτῇ
The fear of YHWH [is] the instruction of wisdom, And humility [is] before honor!
