< Παροιμίαι 13 >
1 υἱὸς πανοῦργος ὑπήκοος πατρί υἱὸς δὲ ἀνήκοος ἐν ἀπωλείᾳ
A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer listens not to rebuke.
2 ἀπὸ καρπῶν δικαιοσύνης φάγεται ἀγαθός ψυχαὶ δὲ παρανόμων ὀλοῦνται ἄωροι
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth, but the soul of the treacherous, violence.
3 ὃς φυλάσσει τὸ ἑαυτοῦ στόμα τηρεῖ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ψυχήν ὁ δὲ προπετὴς χείλεσιν πτοήσει ἑαυτόν
He who guards his mouth keeps his life. He who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
4 ἐν ἐπιθυμίαις ἐστὶν πᾶς ἀεργός χεῖρες δὲ ἀνδρείων ἐν ἐπιμελείᾳ
The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5 λόγον ἄδικον μισεῖ δίκαιος ἀσεβὴς δὲ αἰσχύνεται καὶ οὐχ ἕξει παρρησίαν
A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.
6 δικαιοσύνη φυλάσσει ἀκάκους τοὺς δὲ ἀσεβεῖς φαύλους ποιεῖ ἁμαρτία
Righteousness guards him who is upright in the way, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
7 εἰσὶν οἱ πλουτίζοντες ἑαυτοὺς μηδὲν ἔχοντες καὶ εἰσὶν οἱ ταπεινοῦντες ἑαυτοὺς ἐν πολλῷ πλούτῳ
There is he who makes himself rich, yet has nothing, and he who makes himself poor, yet has great wealth.
8 λύτρον ἀνδρὸς ψυχῆς ὁ ἴδιος πλοῦτος πτωχὸς δὲ οὐχ ὑφίσταται ἀπειλήν
The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor hears no threatening.
9 φῶς δικαίοις διὰ παντός φῶς δὲ ἀσεβῶν σβέννυται ψυχαὶ δόλιαι πλανῶνται ἐν ἁμαρτίαις δίκαιοι δὲ οἰκτίρουσιν καὶ ἐλεῶσιν
The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
10 κακὸς μεθ’ ὕβρεως πράσσει κακά οἱ δὲ ἑαυτῶν ἐπιγνώμονες σοφοί
Through pride a vain man causes contention, but wisdom is with the well-advised.
11 ὕπαρξις ἐπισπουδαζομένη μετὰ ἀνομίας ἐλάσσων γίνεται ὁ δὲ συνάγων ἑαυτῷ μετ’ εὐσεβείας πληθυνθήσεται δίκαιος οἰκτίρει καὶ κιχρᾷ
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished, but he who gathers by labor shall have increase.
12 κρείσσων ἐναρχόμενος βοηθῶν καρδίᾳ τοῦ ἐπαγγελλομένου καὶ εἰς ἐλπίδα ἄγοντος δένδρον γὰρ ζωῆς ἐπιθυμία ἀγαθή
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
13 ὃς καταφρονεῖ πράγματος καταφρονηθήσεται ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ ὁ δὲ φοβούμενος ἐντολήν οὗτος ὑγιαίνει υἱῷ δολίῳ οὐδὲν ἔσται ἀγαθόν οἰκέτῃ δὲ σοφῷ εὔοδοι ἔσονται πράξεις καὶ κατευθυνθήσεται ἡ ὁδὸς αὐτοῦ
He who despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who fears the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 νόμος σοφοῦ πηγὴ ζωῆς ὁ δὲ ἄνους ὑπὸ παγίδος θανεῖται
The law of a wise man is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 σύνεσις ἀγαθὴ δίδωσιν χάριν τὸ δὲ γνῶναι νόμον διανοίας ἐστὶν ἀγαθῆς ὁδοὶ δὲ καταφρονούντων ἐν ἀπωλείᾳ
Good understanding gives favor, but the way of the transgressor is hard.
16 πᾶς πανοῦργος πράσσει μετὰ γνώσεως ὁ δὲ ἄφρων ἐξεπέτασεν ἑαυτοῦ κακίαν
Every prudent man works with knowledge, but a fool flaunts folly.
17 βασιλεὺς θρασὺς ἐμπεσεῖται εἰς κακά ἄγγελος δὲ πιστὸς ῥύσεται αὐτόν
A wicked messenger falls into evil, but a faithful ambassador is health.
18 πενίαν καὶ ἀτιμίαν ἀφαιρεῖται παιδεία ὁ δὲ φυλάσσων ἐλέγχους δοξασθήσεται
Poverty and shame are to him who refuses correction, but he who regards reproof shall be honored.
19 ἐπιθυμίαι εὐσεβῶν ἡδύνουσιν ψυχήν ἔργα δὲ ἀσεβῶν μακρὰν ἀπὸ γνώσεως
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20 ὁ συμπορευόμενος σοφοῖς σοφὸς ἔσται ὁ δὲ συμπορευόμενος ἄφροσι γνωσθήσεται
Walk with wise men, and thou shall be wise. But the companion of fools shall smart for it.
21 ἁμαρτάνοντας καταδιώξεται κακά τοὺς δὲ δικαίους καταλήμψεται ἀγαθά
Evil pursues sinners, but the righteous shall be recompensed with good.
22 ἀγαθὸς ἀνὴρ κληρονομήσει υἱοὺς υἱῶν θησαυρίζεται δὲ δικαίοις πλοῦτος ἀσεβὼν
A good man leaves an inheritance to his son's sons, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.
23 δίκαιοι ποιήσουσιν ἐν πλούτῳ ἔτη πολλά ἄδικοι δὲ ἀπολοῦνται συντόμως
Much food is in the tillage of the poor, but there is that is consumed because of injustice.
24 ὃς φείδεται τῆς βακτηρίας μισεῖ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ὁ δὲ ἀγαπῶν ἐπιμελῶς παιδεύει
He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him chastens him promptly.
25 δίκαιος ἔσθων ἐμπιπλᾷ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ψυχαὶ δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἐνδεεῖς
A righteous man eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked shall want.
