Ἀριθμοί 1
1 καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῇ Σινα ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐν μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ δευτέρου ἔτους δευτέρου ἐξελθόντων αὐτῶν ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου λέγων
Yahweh spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the wilderness of Sinai. This happened on the first day of the second month during the second year after the people of Israel had come out from the land of Egypt. Yahweh said,
2 λάβετε ἀρχὴν πάσης συναγωγῆς υἱῶν Ισραηλ κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ἐξ ὀνόματος αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πᾶς ἄρσην
“Conduct a census of all the men of Israel in each clan, in their fathers' families. Count them by name. Count every male, each man
3 ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν δυνάμει Ισραηλ ἐπισκέψασθε αὐτοὺς σὺν δυνάμει αὐτῶν σὺ καὶ Ααρων ἐπισκέψασθε αὐτούς
who is twenty years old or older. Count all who can fight as soldiers for Israel. You and Aaron must record the number of men in their armed groups.
4 καὶ μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἔσονται ἕκαστος κατὰ φυλὴν ἑκάστου ἀρχόντων κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν ἔσονται
A man from each tribe, a clan head, must serve with you as his tribe's leader. Each leader must lead the men who will fight for his tribe.
5 καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν ἀνδρῶν οἵτινες παραστήσονται μεθ’ ὑμῶν τῶν Ρουβην Ελισουρ υἱὸς Σεδιουρ
These are the names of the leaders who must fight with you: From the tribe of Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;
6 τῶν Συμεων Σαλαμιηλ υἱὸς Σουρισαδαι
from the tribe of Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;
7 τῶν Ιουδα Ναασσων υἱὸς Αμιναδαβ
from the tribe of Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;
8 τῶν Ισσαχαρ Ναθαναηλ υἱὸς Σωγαρ
from the tribe of Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar;
9 τῶν Ζαβουλων Ελιαβ υἱὸς Χαιλων
from the tribe of Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;
10 τῶν υἱῶν Ιωσηφ τῶν Εφραιμ Ελισαμα υἱὸς Εμιουδ τῶν Μανασση Γαμαλιηλ υἱὸς Φαδασσουρ
from the tribe of Ephraim son of Joseph, Elishama son of Ammihud; from the tribe of Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;
11 τῶν Βενιαμιν Αβιδαν υἱὸς Γαδεωνι
from the tribe of Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;
12 τῶν Δαν Αχιεζερ υἱὸς Αμισαδαι
from the tribe of Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;
13 τῶν Ασηρ Φαγαιηλ υἱὸς Εχραν
from the tribe of Asher, Pagiel son of Okran;
14 τῶν Γαδ Ελισαφ υἱὸς Ραγουηλ
from the tribe of Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;
15 τῶν Νεφθαλι Αχιρε υἱὸς Αιναν
and from the tribe of Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.”
16 οὗτοι ἐπίκλητοι τῆς συναγωγῆς ἄρχοντες τῶν φυλῶν κατὰ πατριάς χιλίαρχοι Ισραηλ εἰσίν
These were the men appointed from the people. They led their ancestors' tribes. They were the leaders of the clans in Israel.
17 καὶ ἔλαβεν Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων τοὺς ἄνδρας τούτους τοὺς ἀνακληθέντας ἐξ ὀνόματος
Moses and Aaron took these men, who were recorded by name,
18 καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν συναγωγὴν συνήγαγον ἐν μιᾷ τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ δευτέρου ἔτους καὶ ἐπηξονοῦσαν κατὰ γενέσεις αὐτῶν κατὰ πατριὰς αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν
and along with these men they assembled all the men of Israel on the first day of the second month. Then each man twenty years old and older identified his ancestry. He had to name the clans and families descended from his ancestors.
19 ὃν τρόπον συνέταξεν κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ καὶ ἐπεσκέπησαν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῇ Σινα
Then Moses recorded their numbers in the wilderness of Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him to do.
20 καὶ ἐγένοντο οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβην πρωτοτόκου Ισραηλ κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Reuben, Israel's firstborn, were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
21 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ρουβην ἓξ καὶ τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ πεντακόσιοι
They counted 46,500 men from the tribe of Reuben.
22 τοῖς υἱοῖς Συμεων κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει

23 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Συμεων ἐννέα καὶ πεντήκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ τριακόσιοι
They counted 59,300 men from the tribe of Simeon.
24 τοῖς υἱοῖς Ιουδα κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Gad were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
25 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ιουδα τέσσαρες καὶ ἑβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ ἑξακόσιοι
They counted 45,650 men from the tribe of Gad.
26 τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισσαχαρ κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Judah were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
27 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ισσαχαρ τέσσαρες καὶ πεντήκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ τετρακόσιοι
They counted 74,600 men from the tribe of Judah.
28 τοῖς υἱοῖς Ζαβουλων κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Issachar were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
29 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ζαβουλων ἑπτὰ καὶ πεντήκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ τετρακόσιοι
They counted 54,400 men from the tribe of Issachar.
30 τοῖς υἱοῖς Ιωσηφ υἱοῖς Εφραιμ κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Zebulun were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
31 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Εφραιμ τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ πεντακόσιοι
They counted 57,400 men from the tribe of Zebulun.
32 τοῖς υἱοῖς Μανασση κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Ephraim son of Joseph were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
33 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Μανασση δύο καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ διακόσιοι
They counted 40,500 men from the tribe of Ephraim.
34 τοῖς υἱοῖς Βενιαμιν κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
35 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Βενιαμιν πέντε καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ τετρακόσιοι
They counted 32,200 men from the tribe of Manasseh.
36 τοῖς υἱοῖς Γαδ κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Benjamin were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
37 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Γαδ πέντε καὶ τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ ἑξακόσιοι καὶ πεντήκοντα
They counted 35,400 men from the tribe of Benjamin.
38 τοῖς υἱοῖς Δαν κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Dan were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
39 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Δαν δύο καὶ ἑξήκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ ἑπτακόσιοι
They counted 62,700 from the tribe of Dan.
40 τοῖς υἱοῖς Ασηρ κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Asher were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
41 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ασηρ μία καὶ τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ πεντακόσιοι
They counted 41,500 men from the tribe of Asher.
42 τοῖς υἱοῖς Νεφθαλι κατὰ συγγενείας αὐτῶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν κατὰ ἀριθμὸν ὀνομάτων αὐτῶν κατὰ κεφαλὴν αὐτῶν πάντα ἀρσενικὰ ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος ἐν τῇ δυνάμει
From the descendants of Naphtali were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.
43 ἡ ἐπίσκεψις αὐτῶν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Νεφθαλι τρεῖς καὶ πεντήκοντα χιλιάδες καὶ τετρακόσιοι
They counted 53,400 from the tribe of Naphtali.
44 αὕτη ἡ ἐπίσκεψις ἣν ἐπεσκέψαντο Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες Ισραηλ δώδεκα ἄνδρες ἀνὴρ εἷς κατὰ φυλὴν μίαν κατὰ φυλὴν οἴκων πατριᾶς ἦσαν
Moses and Aaron counted all these men, together with the twelve men who were leading the twelve tribes of Israel.
45 καὶ ἐγένετο πᾶσα ἡ ἐπίσκεψις υἱῶν Ισραηλ σὺν δυνάμει αὐτῶν ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω πᾶς ὁ ἐκπορευόμενος παρατάξασθαι ἐν Ισραηλ
So all the men of Israel from twenty years old and older, all who could fight in war, were counted in each of their families.
46 ἑξακόσιαι χιλιάδες καὶ τρισχίλιοι καὶ πεντακόσιοι καὶ πεντήκοντα
They counted 603,550 men.
47 οἱ δὲ Λευῖται ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς πατριᾶς αὐτῶν οὐκ ἐπεσκέπησαν ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ
But the men who were descended from Levi were not counted,
48 καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων
because Yahweh had said to Moses,
49 ὅρα τὴν φυλὴν τὴν Λευι οὐ συνεπισκέψῃ καὶ τὸν ἀριθμὸν αὐτῶν οὐ λήμψῃ ἐν μέσῳ τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ
“You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the total of the people of Israel.
50 καὶ σὺ ἐπίστησον τοὺς Λευίτας ἐπὶ τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπὶ πάντα ὅσα ἐστὶν ἐν αὐτῇ αὐτοὶ ἀροῦσιν τὴν σκηνὴν καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη αὐτῆς καὶ αὐτοὶ λειτουργήσουσιν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ κύκλῳ τῆς σκηνῆς παρεμβαλοῦσιν
Instead, assign the Levites to care for the tabernacle of the covenant decrees, and to care for all the furnishings in the tabernacle and for everything in it. The Levites must carry the tabernacle, and they must carry the tabernacle's furnishings. They must care for the tabernacle and make their camp around it.
51 καὶ ἐν τῷ ἐξαίρειν τὴν σκηνὴν καθελοῦσιν αὐτὴν οἱ Λευῖται καὶ ἐν τῷ παρεμβάλλειν τὴν σκηνὴν ἀναστήσουσιν καὶ ὁ ἀλλογενὴς ὁ προσπορευόμενος ἀποθανέτω
When the tabernacle is to move to another place, the Levites must take it down. When the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites must set it up. Any stranger who comes near the tabernacle must be killed.
52 καὶ παρεμβαλοῦσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ ἀνὴρ ἐν τῇ ἑαυτοῦ τάξει καὶ ἀνὴρ κατὰ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ἡγεμονίαν σὺν δυνάμει αὐτῶν
When the people of Israel set up their tents, each man must do so near the banner that belongs to his armed group.
53 οἱ δὲ Λευῖται παρεμβαλέτωσαν ἐναντίον κυρίου κύκλῳ τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ἁμάρτημα ἐν υἱοῖς Ισραηλ καὶ φυλάξουσιν οἱ Λευῖται αὐτοὶ τὴν φυλακὴν τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου
However, the Levites must set up their tents around the tabernacle of the covenant decrees so that my anger does not come upon the people of Israel. The Levites must care for the tabernacle of the covenant decrees.”
54 καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ κατὰ πάντα ἃ ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ καὶ Ααρων οὕτως ἐποίησαν
The people of Israel did all these things. They did everything that Yahweh commanded through Moses.
