1 Hessafe guye, Yesuusi shiiqida asaasinne ba tamaaretas hayssada yaagis.
Then Jeshu discoursed with the multitudes and with his disciples,
2 “Higge asttamaaretinne Farisaaweti Muse higgiya billanaw maatara de7oosona.
and said to them, Upon the chair of Musha sit the scribes and the Pharishee.
3 Hessa gisho, entti hinttena kiittiya ubbaa oothitenne naagite. Shin entti ootheyssada oothofite. Ays giikko, entti oodeyssada oothokona.
Every thing, therefore, which they tell you to observe, observe and do; but after their practices do not act; for they say, and do not.
4 Entti tookkanaw dandda7ettona tooho qachchidi asaa toossoosona. Shin banttaw hari attoshin, he toohuwa asay tookkiya wode biradhdhe xeeran bochchanaw koyokkona.
And they bind heavy burdens, and lay them on the shoulders of men, but they with their fingers are not willing to touch them.
5 “Shin entti bantta ooso ubbaa asi be7onna mela oothoosona. Bantta som77oninne qesen qachchiya maxaafaa xiqisey de7iya kitaafe dalggisosona, bantta ma7uwa macaraakka adussoosona.
And all their works they do that they may be seen of men; for they widen their tephillin, and lengthen the fringes of their waving vestments,
6 Mokettiya bessan bonchcho bessinne Ayhude Woosa Keethatan daro lo77iya oyde dosoosona.
and love the chief reclining-places at evening feasts, and the highest seats in synagogues,
7 Asay giyan enttana bonchchon sarothanayssanne ‘Asttamaariyaw’ gidi xeeganayssa koyoosona.
and the shaloma in public places, and to be called of men Râbi.
8 “Shin hintte asttamaarey issuwa xalaala gidida gishonne hintte ubbay ishata gidida gisho, ‘Asttamaariyaw’ geetettidi xeegettofite.
But be you not called Râbi: for One is your Master; but all ye are brethren.
9 Hinttew salon issi aawa xalaali de7iya gisho, ha sa7an oonakka ‘Aawaw’ gidi xeegoppite.
And call no man Abâ to you upon earth: for One is your Father, who is in heaven.
10 Hinttew issi Goday Kiristtoosa xalaali de7iya gisho ‘Godaw’ geetetti xeegettofite.
Neither be ye called Medabronee: for One is your Guide, -the Meshicha.
11 Hintte giddon bayratey hintte aylle gido.
But he who is great among you, let him be your servitor.
12 Bana gitayiya oonikka kawuyana; bana kawushshiya oonikka gitatana.
For whosoever will exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever will abase himself shall be exalted.
13 “Hinttenoo, cubboto, higge asttamaaretonne Farisaaweto, asa sinthan salo kawotethaa gorddeyssato hinttena ayye. Hinttee, hintte huu7en gelekketa qassi haratakka gelssekketa.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharishee, hypocrites! because you hold the kingdom of heaven closed before the children of men; for you will not enter in yourselves, and them who are entering you will not permit to enter.
14 [“Hinttenoo cubboto, higge asttamaaretonne, Farisaaweto, am77eta keetha hintte bonqishe, asi be7o gidi woosa adusseeta. Hessa gisho, hinttena ayye. Ubbaafe aadhdhiya pirdday hinttena naagees.]
WOE to you, scribes and Pharishee, hypocrites! because you devour the houses of widows, with the pretext of prolonging your prayers; on account of which you shall receive the greater judgment.
15 “Hinttenoo, cubboto, higge asttamaaretonne Farisaaweto, hintte issi uraa ammanthanaw abbaranne sa7ara yuuyeta. Shin hintte iya ammanthida wode he uraa hinttefe aathidi Gaannames giigettidayssa oothiya gisho, hinttena ayye. (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, scribes and Pharishee, hypocrites! because you go over sea and dry (land) to make one proselyte; and when you have done it, you make him doubly more a son of gihana than yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 “Oonikka Xoossa Keethan caaqqiko aykkoyka baawa. Shin Xoossaa Keethan de7iya worqqan caaqqiko, he caaqoy iya gomana giya qooqeto, hinttew qooqidi harata kaaletheyssato, hinttena ayye.
Woe to you, ye blind guides, who say, That who sweareth by the temple, it is nothing; but if he swear by the gold which is in the temple, he is liable!
17 Hinttenoo, eeyato, qooqeto, worqqay aadhdhiyye? Worqqiya Xoossaas dummayiya Xoossa Keethay aadhdhii?
You senseless and blind! for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 Qassi ‘Oonikka yarshsho yarshshiya bessan caaqqiko, aykkoyka baawa. Shin oonikka iya bolla de7iya yarshshuwan caaqqiko, he caaqoy iya gomana’ yaagidi tamaarsseta.
And (that) whoever sweareth by the altar, it is nothing; but he swear by the oblation which is upon it, he is liable.
19 Hinttenoo, qooqeto, yarshshoy aadhdhiyye? Yarshshuwa Xoossaas dummayiya bessay aadhdhii?
You foolish and sightless! for which is greater, the oblation, or the altar that sanctifieth the oblation?
20 Hessa gisho, yarshsho bessan caaqqiya uray, he yarshsho bessaaninne iya bolla de7iya ubbaban caaqqees.
He therefore who sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things that are upon it.
21 Xoossa Keethan caaqqiya uray, he Xoossa Keethaninne iyan de7iya Xoossan caaqqees.
And he who sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by whatever abideth in it.
22 Salon caaqqiya uray Xoossaa araataninne he araata bolla uttiya Xoossan caaqqees.
And whosoever sweareth by heaven, sweareth by the throne of Aloha, and by Him who sitteth thereon.
23 “Hinttenoo, cubboto, higge asttamaaretonne Farisaaweto, hinttena ayye. Hintte kareetha sawoppe, naatiroppenne okasheppe asraata kesseta. Shin higgiyan de7iya aadhdhi koshsheyssata aggideta. Hessika xillo pirdda, qadhetethinne ubbaban ammanetethi. Haratakka aggonnashin hayssata hintte oothanaw bessees.
Woe to you, scribes, Pharishee, hypocrites! because you tithe mint, dill, and cummin, and omit the more grave of the law, -justice, benignity, and faithfulness. For these you should have done, and those not omitted.
24 Hinttew qooqidi hara asi kaaletheyssato, hintte ushshaafe udunxe kessidi gimale mitteeta.
You blind guides, who strain out gnats and swallow camels.
25 “Hinttenoo, cubboto, higge asttamaaretonne Farisaaweto, hinttena ayye. Hintte shaatiyasinne keriyas bolla baggaa geeshsheeta. Shin enttaw garssan bonqeynne uuzetethi kumi uttis.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharishee, hypocrites! who cleanse the outside of the cup and dish (which) within are full of rapine and injustice.
26 Neno qooqe Farisaawiyaw, shaatiyasinne keriyas garssaa kasetada geeshsha. Hessafe guye, bolla baggayka geeshshi gidana.
Sightless Pharishee! cleanse first the inside of the cup and the dish, that their outside also may be clean.
27 “Hinttenoo, cubboto, higge asttamaaretonne Farisaaweto, hinttena ayye. Kare baggara qalame tiyettidi lo77idi, giddon meqethinne wooqidabay kumida duufota daaneta.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharishee, hypocrites! for you are like whited sepulchres, which without appear beautiful, but within are full of the bones of the dead and all impurity.
28 Hessadakka, bolla baggara asas lo77o daaneta. Shin hintte garssan cubbotethinne iitatethi kumis.
So you also from without appear to the sons of men as righteous, but within you are full of unrighteousness and hypocrisy.
29 “Hintteno, cubboto, higge asttamaaretonne Farisaaweto, hinttena ayye. Hintte nabetas duufo keexeta, qassi xillota duufuwakka loytheeta.
WOE to you, scribes and Pharishee, hypocrites! because you rebuild the tombs of the prophets and beautify the sepulchres of the just; and say,
30 Qassi hintte, ‘Nuuni beni nu aawata wode de7idabaa gidiyakko, enttara issife nabeta suuthaa guussokoshin’ yaageeta.
If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been with them partakers in the blood of the prophets:
31 Hessa gisho, hintte nabeta wodhida asaa nayta gideyssa hinttee hintte huu7en markkatteeta.
thus bearing witness against yourselves, that you are the sons of them who killed the prophets.
32 Hiza, hintte aawati doomidayssa hintte polite.
And you also, -complete the measure of your fathers.
Serpents, birth of vipers! how will you escape from the judgment of gihana? (Geenna g1067)
34 Hessa gisho, ta odeyssa si7ite; taani nabeta, cincca asatanne asttamaareta hintteko kiittana. Enttafe issota issota hintte wodhananne masqaliya bolla kaqqana. Baggata Ayhude Woosa Keethatan lisson garaafananne katamaappe katama gooddana.
On this account, behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; (some) of these you shall kill and crucify; and (some) of these you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city.
35 Hessa gisho, xilluwaa Aabela wodhida wodiyappe doomidi, Xoossa Keethasinne yarshsho bessaafe giddon hintte wodhida Baraakiya na7aa Zakkariyaasa wode gakkanaw hayqqida xillo asa ubbaa gisho, hintte seerettana.
So that there shall come upon you all the blood of the just which hath been shed upon the earth; from the blood of Habil the righteous, unto the blood of Zakaria-bar-Barakia, whom you slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Taani hinttew tuma odays; hinttenne hintte aawati oothida balaas ha pirdda ubbay ha yeletethaa bolla gakkana.
Amen I say unto you, that all these shall come upon this generation.
37 “Yerusalaame, Yerusalaame, nabeta wodhiyare! Xoossay neekko kiittidayssata shuchchan caddiyare! Kuttoy ba nayta ba qefen haphpheyssada taani ne asaa ta qesiyan gechchanaw aappun toho koyadina! Shin tana diggadasa.
Urishlem, Urishlem! who killest the prophets, and stonest them who are sent unto her, what times would I have gathered thy children, as gathereth the hen her young ones beneath her wings, and you would not!
38 Hiza, hintte Xoossaa keethay kaysi gidana.
Lo, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 Taani hinttew odays; ‘Godaa sunthan yeyssi anjjettidayssa’ hintte gaana gakkanaw nam77antho tana be7ekketa” yaagis.
For I say unto you, That you shall not see me from henceforth, until you shall say, Blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord.
