Marqqoosa 9
1 Yesuusi enttako, “Taani hinttew tuma odays; Xoossaa kawotethay wolqqara yeyssa be7onna hayqqonna issi issi asati hayssan de7oosona” yaagis.
“I tell you,” he added, “that some of those who are standing here will not know death till they have seen the Kingdom of God come in power.”
2 Yesuusi usuppun gallasappe guye, baara Phexiroosa, Yayqoobanne Yohaannisa ekkidi, entta xalaala gita deriya bolla kessidi entta sinthan laamettis.
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain alone by themselves. There his appearance was transformed before their eyes,
3 Iya ma7oykka phoolis; sa7an ma7o meecciya oonikka geeshshanaw dandda7onnayssa mela daro booxis.
and his clothes became of a more dazzling white than any bleacher in the world could make them.
4 He heedzu tamaareti, Eliyaasinne Musey Yesuusara odetteyssa be7idosona.
And Elijah appeared to them, in company with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
5 Phexiroosi Yesuusa, “Asttamaariyaw, nuuni hayssan de7eyssi nuus lo77o; nu heedzu shaqarata issuwa new, issuwa Muses, qassi issuwa Eliyaasas shaqarana” yaagis.
“Rabbi,” said Peter, interposing, “it is good to be here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
6 Iyaranne hankkotara daro yayyida gisho I ay giyakkoka eribeenna.
For he did not know what to say, because they were much afraid.
7 Hessafe guye, shaaray yidi entta kammin shaarappe, “Hayssi ta dosiya, ta Na7aa, I geyssa si7ite” giya qaalay yis.
Then a cloud came down and enveloped them; and from the cloud there came a voice — “This is my Son, the Beloved; him you must hear.”
8 Ellesidi entti yuushshi aathi xeelliya wode, Yesuusappe attin haraa oonakka bantta matan be7ibookkona.
And suddenly, on looking round, they saw that there was now no one with them but Jesus alone.
9 Entti deriyappe wodhdhishin, Yesuusi enttako, “Asa Na7ay, hayqoppe denddana gakkanaw, hintte be7idabaa oodeskka odoppite” yaagidi kiittis.
As they were going down the mountain-side, Jesus cautioned them not to relate what they had seen to any one, till after the Son of Man should have risen again from the dead.
10 I kiittidayssa entti, “Ero” gidi, “Ha hayqoppe denddo geyssi woygusee” gidi, bantta giddon odettidosona.
They seized upon these words and discussed with one another what this ‘rising from the dead’ meant.
11 Entti zaaridi, “Higge asttamaareti, ‘Eliyaasi koyrottidi yaanaw bessees’ ays goonaa?” yaagidi oychchidosona.
“How is it,” they asked Jesus, “that our Teachers of the Law say that Elijah has to come first?”
12 Yesuusi zaaridi “Eliyaasi koyrottidi yidi, ubbabaa giigisees; yaatin, ays Geeshsha Maxaafay, ‘Asa Na7ay daro waayettana ixettana’ yaagidi oychchis?
“Elijah does indeed come first,” answered Jesus, “and re-establish everything; and does not Scripture speak, with regard to the Son of Man, of his undergoing much suffering and being utterly despised?
13 Shin taani hinttew odays; Eliyaasi yis; qassi iyabay Geeshsha Maxaafan xaafettidayssada, asay iya bolla bantta koyidabaa oothidosona” yaagis.
But I tell you that Elijah has come, and people have treated him just as they pleased, as Scripture says of him.”
14 Yesuusi, Phexiroosi, Yayqoobinne Yohaannisi hankko iya tamaaretakko simmidi yaa wode, daro asay entta yuushuwan eqqidaysatanne higge asttamaare gidida guutha asati enttara palameyssa be7idosona.
When they came to the other disciples, they saw a great crowd round them, and some Teachers of the Law arguing with them.
15 He daro asay Yesuusa be7ida wode malaalettidi, ellesidi iyaakko woxxi yidi, iya sarothidosona.
But, as soon as they saw Jesus, all the people, in great astonishment, ran up and greeted him.
16 Yesuusi ba tamaaretakko, “Enttara ay palameetii?” yaagidi oychchis.
“What are you arguing about with them?” Jesus asked.
17 He daro asa giddofe issi uray zaaridi, “Asttamaariyaw, ta na7aa bolla odetethi diggiya tuna ayyaanay de7iya gisho, iya neekko ekkada yas.
“Teacher,” answered a man in the crowd, “I brought my son to see you, as he has a dumb spirit in him;
18 Ha tuna ayyaanay iya oykkiya wode ubban, iya shocci yeggees; iya doonara gopponttoy yees; qassi achche garccisees; asatethaaka minnees. Iyappe ha tuna ayyaanaa kessana mela, ne tamaaretas odas, shin kessanaw dandda7ibookkona” yaagis.
and, wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and he is pining away. I asked your disciples to drive the spirit out, but they failed.”
19 Yesuusi zaaridi enttako, “Ammanonna ha wodiya asaw! Taani hinttera awude gakkanaw daane? Qassi hinttena awude gakkanaw dandda7anee? Na7aa taakko haa ekki yiite” yaagis.
“O faithless generation!” exclaimed Jesus. “How long must I be with you? how long must I have patience with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 Entti na7aa iyaakko ehidosona; he tuna ayyaanay Yesuusa be7ida mela na7aa kokkorssi aggis; na7ay sa7an kunddidi, doonara gopponttoy toofu gishin gonddorettis.
They brought him to Jesus; but no sooner did the boy see him than the spirit threw him into convulsions; and he fell on the ground, and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
21 Yesuusi he na7aa aawakko, “Hayssi ne na7aa oykkoossappe ay mela wode gidanee?” yaagidi oychchis. Na7aa aaway, “I guuthan de7ishin oykkis.
“How long has he been like this?” Jesus asked the boy’s father.
22 Iya wodhanaw daro wode tamaninne haathan yeggees, shin ne dandda7ikko, nuus qadhettarkii, nuna maaddarkii” yaagis.
“From his childhood,” he answered; “and it has often thrown him into fire and into water to put an end to his life; but, if you can possibly do anything, take pity on us, and help us!”
23 Yesuusi iya, “‘Neeni dandda7ikko gay?’ Ammaniya oodeskka ubbabay dandda7ettees” yaagis.
Why say ‘possibly’?” Jesus replied. “Everything is possible for one who has faith.”
24 Ellesidi na7aa aaway ba qaala dhoqqu oothidi, “Taani ammanays, shin gujja ammananaada tana maaddarkii” yaagis.
The boy’s father immediately cried out: “I have faith; help my want of faith!”
25 Yesuusi asay dari dari beyssa be7idi, tuna ayyaanaa, “Ha tullenne muume ayyaanaw, ha na7aappe keya gada nena ta kiittays; qassi nam77antho iyan geloppa” yaagis.
But, when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly collecting, he rebuked the foul spirit: “Deaf and dumb spirit, it is I who command you. Come out from him and never enter him again.”
26 He tuna ayyaanay waassidi, na7aa daro kokkorssidi, iyappe keyis. Na7ay hayqqida daanin, daro asay, “Na7ay hayqqis” yaagidosona.
With a loud cry the spirit threw the boy into repeated convulsions, and then came out from him. The boy looked like a corpse, so that most of them said that he was dead.
27 Shin Yesuusi na7aa kushiya oykkidi denthin, na7ay denddi eqqis.
But Jesus took his hand, and lifted him; and he stood up.
28 Yesuusi soo gelidayssafe guye, iya tamaareti, “Nuuni he tuna ayyaanaa kessanaw ays dandda7ibookko?” yaagidi Yesuusa dumma oychchidosona.
When Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately: “Why could not we drive it out?”
29 Yesuusi zaaridi, “Hessa melay woosappenne xoomappe attin haraban keyanaw dandda7enna” yaagis.
“A spirit of this kind,” he said, “can be driven out only by prayer.”
30 Entti he bessaafe denddidi, Galiilara aadhdhidi bidosona; Yesuusi ba de7iyasuwa oonikka erana mela koyibeenna.
Leaving that place, Jesus and his disciples went on their way through Galilee; but he did not wish any one to know it,
31 I ba tamaaretakko, “Asa Na7aa, asi asas aathi immananne wodhana; I heedzu gallasappe guye, hayqoppe denddana” yaagidi tamaarssees.
for he was instructing his disciples, and telling them — “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of his fellow men, and they will put him to death, but, when he has been put to death, he will rise again after three days.”
32 Shin enttaw I geyssi gelibeenna; qassi iya oychchanawukka yayyidosona.
But the disciples did not understand his meaning and were afraid to question him.
33 Entti Qifirnahoome katamaa bidi soo gelidayssafe guye, Yesuusi enttako, “Ogen ay odetteetii?” yaagidi oychchis.
They came to Capernaum. When Jesus had gone into the house, he asked them: “What were you discussing on the way?”
34 Shin entti, “Nu giddon ubbaafe aadhdhanay oonee?” yaagidi palamida gisho, si7i gidosona.
But they were silent; for on the way they had been arguing with one another which was the greatest.
35 Yesuusi uttidi, tammanne nam77u tamaareta xeegidi, “Oonikka sinthe aadhdhanaw koykko, ubbaafe guye aadhdhidi, ubbaas aylle gidanaw bessees” yaagis.
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said: “If any one wishes to be first, he must be last of all, and servant of all.”
36 Issi guutha na7aa ekkidi, entta giddon essis; he guutha na7aa idimmidi enttako,
Then Jesus took a little child, and placed it in the middle of them. Folding it in his arms, he said to them:
37 “Hayssa mela guutha naytappe issuwa ta sunthan mokkiya oonikka tana mokkees; qassi tana mokkiya oonikka tana kiittidayssaka mokkeesippe attin ta xalaala mokkenna” yaagis.
“Any one who, for the sake of my Name, welcomes even a little child like this is welcoming me, and any one who welcomes me is welcoming not me, but him who sent me as his Messenger.”
38 Yohaannisi, “Asttamaariyaw, issi asi ne sunthan tuna Ayyaanata kessishin nuuni be7idi, nu bagga gidonna gisho, iya diggida” yaagis.
“Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons by using your name, and we tried to prevent him, because he did not follow us.”
39 Shin Yesuusi, “Oonikka ta sunthan Xoossay oothiya malaatata oothidi, ellesidi ta bolla iitabaa odettanaw dandda7ey baynna gisho diggofite.
“None of you must prevent the man,” answered Jesus, “for no one will use my name in working a miracle, and yet find it easy to speak evil of me.
40 Nubaa ixxonna uray nu bagga.
He who is not against us is for us.
41 Taani hinttew tuma odays; hintte tayssata gidiya gisho, oonikka hinttew ta sunthan halo haathi uyanaw immikokka, ba woytuwa ekkana.
If any one gives you a cup of water because you belong to Christ, I tell you, he shall assuredly not lose his reward.
42 “Tana ammaniyaa ha guuthatappe issuwa balethiya oonikka, gaacciya wogga woxa ba qodhen qachchidi, abban wulliyako iyaw lo77o.
‘And, if any one puts a snare in the way of one of these lowly ones who believe in me, it would be far better for him if he had been thrown into the sea with a great millstone round his neck.
43 Ne kushey nena balethikko, qanxa hola. Neeni nam77u kushera to7onna gaanname taman yegetteyssafe, duuxa kushera de7uwa geloy new lo77o. (Geenna g1067)
If your hand proves a snare to you, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter the Life maimed, than to have both your hands and go into the Pit, into the inextinguishable fire. (Geenna g1067)

If your eye proves a snare to you, tear it out. It would be better for you to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye, than to have both eyes and be thrown into the Pit, (Geenna g1067)
48 Yan entta miya guxuney hayqqenna, tamaykka to7enna.
where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not put out.’
49 “Yarshshoy maxinen geeyeyssa mela asi ubbay taman harqettana.
‘For it is by fire that every one will be salted.
50 Maxiney lo77o, shin I mal7onna ixxiko, zaaridi waati mal7ethanee? Hinttenan maxiney de7o. Yaanidi issoy issuwara sarotethaan de7ite” yaagis.
‘Salt is good, but, if the salt should lose its saltiness, what will you use to season it? ‘You must have salt in yourselves, and live at peace with one another.”
