1 Eeqas yarshshettiya kathabaa gidikko nu ubbay eroos. Eratethi otorssees, shin siiqoy dichchees.
Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
2 Oonikka bana erays gidi qoppiko, I buroo eranaw besseyssa eribeenna.
But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
3 Shin oonikka Xoossaa siiqikko I Xoossaa matan erettidayssa.
But if anyone loves God, the same is known by him.
4 Hessa gisho, eeqas yarshshettida kathi muussabaa gidikko ha alamiyan Godi issi Xoossaafe attin hari baynna gisho, eeqi pathonnabaa gidonnayssa nuuni eroos.
Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God but one.
5 Xoosse gidonnashin, saloninne sa7an xoosse geetetti xeegettiya daro xoossatinne godati de7ikkoka,
For though there are things that are called "gods," whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many "gods" and many "lords;"
6 ubbabaa medhdhida, nu iyabaa gidida, issi Xoossay, Aaway, nuus de7ees. Ubbay iya baggara medhettida, nukka iya baggara de7o demmida issi Goday, Yesuus Kiristtoosi nuus de7ees.
yet to us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, through whom are all things, and we live through him.
7 Shin hayssa erey ubbaa gidenna. Issi issi asay eeqa goynnora meezetida gisho, kathi miya wode eeqas yarshshettidabaa oothidi ekkoosona. He wode entta kahay daabura gidiya gisho tunees.
However, not all have this knowledge. But some, being so accustomed to idols until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
8 Shin kathi nuna Xoossaara dabboyenna. Nu monna aggidi aykkoka qohettoko; qassi midi dumma go7ettoko.
But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we do not eat, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
9 Shin hintte koyidabaa maanaw la77atethi hinttew de7ikkoka hessi ammanon minnonnayssata dhubbonna mela naagettite.
But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.
10 Neeni nena eranchcho gada eeqas yarshshettida kathi maanaw eeqa keethan uttidashin, ammanon minnonayssi nena be7ikko hessi iya eeqas yarshshettida kathi maana mela denthetheneyye?
For if someone sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol's temple, won't his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
11 Hiza, ne eratethaa gaason Kiristtoosi iya gisho hayqqida, ammanon minnonna ne ishay, dhays.
And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whom the Messiah died.
12 Hessada oothidi, ammanon minnonna hintte ishata qohishenne entta kaha madunxisishe Kiristtoosa qoheeta.
Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Messiah.
13 Hessa gisho, kathi ta ishaa dhubbiyabaa gidikko, I dhubettonna mela asho ubbarakka miikke. (aiōn g165)
Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forevermore, that I do not cause my brother to stumble. (aiōn g165)
