< Zekaria 1 >
The Lord sent a message to Zechariah the prophet, son of Berekiah, son of Iddo, in the eighth month of the second year of king Darius' reign, saying:
2 “Jehova nĩarakaririo mũno nĩ maithe manyu ma tene.
The Lord was very angry with your forefathers.
3 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio ĩra andũ atĩrĩ, Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga ũũ: ‘Njookererai, nĩguo Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga, na niĩ nĩngũmũcookerera,’ ũguo nĩguo Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga.
So tell the people this: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord Almighty.
4 Mũtikahaane ta maithe manyu ma tene arĩa maahunjagĩrio nĩ anabii a tene, makeerwo atĩrĩ: Ũũ nĩguo Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga: ‘Garũrũkai mũtige mĩthiĩre yanyu mĩũru o na mĩtugo yanyu mĩũru.’ No makĩaga kũnjigua kana kũrũmbũiya uuge wakwa, nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
You must not be like your forefathers. They were told by previous prophets: Give up your evil ways, and the evil things you do. But they would not listen or pay any attention to me, says the Lord.
5 Maithe manyu ma tene makĩrĩ kũ rĩu? Nao anabii-rĩ, nĩmatũũraga nginya tene?
Where are your forefathers now? And the prophets, did they live forever?
6 No rĩrĩ, githĩ ndũmĩrĩri yakwa na irĩra ciakwa cia kũrũmĩrĩrwo, iria ndaathĩte ndungata ciakwa cia anabii itiahingĩirio maithe manyu ma tene? “Hĩndĩ ĩyo makĩĩrira makiuga atĩrĩ, ‘Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe atwĩkĩte kũringana na ũrĩa mĩthiĩre na mĩtugo iitũ ĩtariĩ, o ta ũrĩa aatuĩte nĩegwĩka.’”
But didn't all my instructions and warnings that I ordered my servants the prophets to communicate, didn't all that I said happen to your forefathers? So they repented and said, “What the Lord Almighty planned to do to us was what we deserved because of our ways and our actions. He did what he said he would.”
The Lord sent a message to Zechariah the prophet, son of Berekiah, son of Iddo, on the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month (the month of Shebat) of the second year of king Darius' reign:
8 Nĩndonire kĩoneki ũtukũ, na rĩrĩ, mbere yakwa ngĩona mũndũ wahaicĩte mbarathi ndune! Mũndũ ũcio aarũgamĩte mĩtĩ-inĩ ya mĩhandathi yarĩ handũ mũkuru-inĩ. Thuutha wake nĩ haarĩ mbarathi ĩmwe ndune, na ingĩ cia gĩĩtĩĩri na ingĩ njerũ.
During the night I saw a man sitting on a red horse that stood among some myrtle trees in a narrow valley. Behind him were red, brown, and white horses with their riders.
9 Na niĩ ngĩũria atĩrĩ, “Mwathi wakwa, ici nacio nĩ cia kĩ?” Mũraika ũcio waaragia na niĩ akĩnjookeria atĩrĩ, “Nĩngũkwĩra nĩ cia kĩ.”
I asked him, “My lord, what are these?” The angel I was talking to replied, “I will show you.”
10 Nake mũndũ ũcio warũngiĩ mĩtĩ-inĩ ya mĩhandathi akĩndaarĩria akĩnjĩĩra atĩrĩ, “Aya nĩo Jehova atũmĩte mathiĩ thĩ yothe.”
The man who was there among the myrtle trees said, “These are the ones the Lord has sent out to patrol the earth.”
The riders reported to the angel of the Lord who was among the myrtle trees, “We have been patrolling the earth and saw that the whole earth has been pacified.”
12 Ningĩ mũraika ũcio wa Jehova akĩũria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ nginya rĩ, Wee Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe, ũkwaga kũiguĩra Jerusalemu na matũũra ma Juda tha, marĩa ũkoretwo ũrakarĩire mĩaka mĩrongo mũgwanja?”
Then the angel of the Lord said, “Lord Almighty, how long will it be before you have mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah which you have been angry with for the past seventy years?”
13 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Jehova agĩkĩarĩria mũraika ũcio twaragia nake na ciugo njega na cia kũhoorerania.
So the Lord replied to the angel I was talking to with kind and comforting words.
14 Nake mũraika ũcio wanjaragĩria akĩnjĩĩra atĩrĩ, “Anĩrĩra ndũmĩrĩri ĩno: Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga atĩrĩ, ‘Nĩnjiguaga ũiru nĩ ũndũ wa Jerusalemu na Zayuni,
Then the angel I was talking with told me, This is what you are to announce. The Lord Almighty says this: I am jealously protective of Jerusalem and Mount Zion,
15 no rĩrĩ, nĩndakarĩtio mũno nĩ ndũrĩrĩ iria ciĩiguaga irĩ ngitĩre. Ndaarakarĩire andũ akwa o hanini, no ndũrĩrĩ icio igĩkĩrĩrĩria kũmanyamaria.’
and I am extremely angry with the arrogant nations who think they are secure. I was only a little angry with my people, but they made the punishment far worse.
16 “Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, Jehova ekuuga ũũ: ‘Nĩngacooka itũũra rĩa Jerusalemu ndĩrĩiguĩre tha, nayo nyũmba yakwa yakwo kuo rĩngĩ. Naruo rũrigi rũa gũthima nĩrũgatambũrũkio Jerusalemu,’ ũguo nĩguo Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga.
Therefore this is what the Lord says: I have returned to be merciful to Jerusalem. My Temple shall be rebuilt there, as well as the city, declares the Lord Almighty.
17 “Ningĩ ũthiĩ na mbere na kwanĩrĩra uuge atĩrĩ: Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga ũũ, ‘Matũũra makwa nĩmakaiyũrĩrĩra ũgaacĩru rĩngĩ, nake Jehova nĩakahooreria Zayuni rĩngĩ na ethuurĩre Jerusalemu.’”
Announce this as well, says the Lord Almighty: Prosperity will flood out of my cities. I the Lord will comfort Zion, and Jerusalem will be my chosen city.
18 Ningĩ ngĩtiira maitho, na rĩrĩ, mbere yakwa ngĩona hĩa inya!
Then I looked and saw four animal horns.
19 Ngĩũria mũraika ũcio wanjaragĩria atĩrĩ, “Ici nacio nĩ cia kĩ?” Nake akĩnjookeria atĩrĩ, “Ici nĩcio hĩa iria ciaharaganirie Juda, na Isiraeli, na Jerusalemu.”
“What are these?” I asked the angel I was talking to. “These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem,” he replied.
20 Nake Jehova agĩcooka akĩnyonia mabundi mana.
Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen.
21 Na niĩ ngĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Aya-rĩ, marooka gwĩka atĩa?” Nake akĩnjookeria atĩrĩ, “Ici nĩcio hĩa iria ciaharaganirie Juda nĩguo gũtigacooke kuoneka mũndũ ũkwĩhaanda, no mabundi maya, mokĩte kũmamakia na magũithie hĩa icio cia ndũrĩrĩ, iria ciambararirie hĩa ciao igĩũkĩrĩra bũrũri wa Juda, nĩguo andũ akuo maharaganio.”
“What are these men coming to do?” I asked. The angel replied, “The four horns—these nations—scattered Judah, humbling the people so that they could not lift up their heads. These craftsmen have to come to terrify these nations, and to destroy them—those who used their power against the land of Judah, scattering the people.”
