< Tito 1 >
Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, appointed to further the faith of God's chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth that is in accordance with godliness,
in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before time began; (aiōnios )
3 Narĩo ihinda rĩake rĩrĩa rĩagĩrĩire rĩakinya, nĩaguũranĩirie kiugo gĩake kĩrĩa ndehokeirwo ndĩkĩhunjagie kũringana na ũrĩa njathĩtwo nĩ Ngai Mũhonokia witũ,
in his own time he revealed his word through the preaching with which I was entrusted by the command of God our Savior;
4 Ndĩrakwandĩkĩra marũa maya wee Tito, o wee mũriũ wakwa kũna thĩinĩ wa wĩtĩkio ũrĩa tũgwatanĩire nawe: Wega na thayũ kuuma kũrĩ Ngai Ithe na kũrĩ Kristũ Jesũ Mũhonokia witũ, irogĩa nawe.
to Titus, my true child in our common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
5 Atĩrĩrĩ Tito, gĩtũmi kĩrĩa gĩatũmire ngũtige kũu Kirete nĩ atĩ ũthondeke maũndũ marĩa mataarĩkĩte na ũthuure athuuri thĩinĩ wa o itũũra, o ta ũrĩa ndakwĩrire.
The reason I left yoʋ in Crete was for yoʋ to put in order what remained to be done and to appoint elders in every town, as I directed yoʋ.
An elder must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, with faithful children who are not rebellious and cannot be accused of debauchery.
For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for sordid gain,
but hospitable, a lover of goodness, sensible, just, holy, and self-controlled,
9 Ningĩ no nginya arũmagie ũhoro ũrĩa wa kwĩhokeka, o ta ũrĩa ũrutanĩtwo, nĩguo ahotage kũũmĩrĩria arĩa angĩ na ũrutani ũrĩa mwagĩrĩru, na ahotage kũregana na arĩa maũkararagia.
holding firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others with sound doctrine and refute those who contradict it.
10 Nĩgũkorwo nĩ kũrĩ andũ aingĩ aremi, andũ a mĩario ya tũhũ na aheenania, na makĩria arĩa a thiritũ ya arĩa maruaga.
For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision faction.
11 Andũ acio no nginya makirio, tondũ nĩmarathũkia mĩciĩ mĩingĩ nĩkũrutanaga maũndũ marĩa mataagĩrĩire kũrutana, na mekaga ũguo nĩgeetha monage mbeeca iria itamagĩrĩire.
They must be silenced, because they are ruining entire households by teaching what they ought not to teach, for the sake of sordid gain.
12 O na mũnabii ũmwe wao nĩoigĩte atĩrĩ, “Andũ a Kirete matũũraga maheenanagia hĩndĩ ciothe, na mahaana ta nyamũ njũru, na nĩ igũũta ngoroku.”
One of their very own prophets said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and lazy gluttons.”
13 Ũira ũcio nĩ wa ma. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio-rĩ, makaanagie ũgwatĩirie, nĩgeetha mehaande wega ũhoro-inĩ wa gwĩtĩkia,
This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they may become sound in the faith,
not paying any attention to Jewish myths or the commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
15 Kũrĩ andũ arĩa marĩ meciiria matheru, maũndũ mothe nĩ matheru, no kũrĩ andũ arĩa marĩ na meciiria mathũku na matetĩkĩtie-rĩ, gũtirĩ ũndũ mũtheru. Ti-itherũ, meciiria mao na thamiri ciao nĩ thũku.
To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and their consciences are defiled.
16 Kuuga nĩmoigaga atĩ nĩmooĩ Ngai, no nĩmamũkaanaga na ciĩko ciao. Nĩ andũ imaramari, na matiathĩkaga, na gũtirĩ ũndũ o na ũmwe mwega mangĩĩka.
They profess to know God, but by their works they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient, and have proven themselves to be unqualified for any good work.
