< Thaburi 90 >
1 Ihooya rĩa Musa, ndungata ya Ngai JEHOVA, nĩwe ũtũũrĩte ũrĩ gĩikaro giitũ kuuma njiarwa na njiarwa.
A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations.
2 O mbere ya irĩma kũgĩa kuo kana ũkĩũmba thĩ na mabũrũri, kuuma tene nginya tene, Wee ũrĩ o Mũrungu.
Before the mountains were brought forth, and thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from eternity to eternity thou art God.
3 Wee ũcookagia andũ magatuĩka rũkũngũ, ũkoiga atĩrĩ, “Cookai rũkũngũ-inĩ, inyuĩ ciana ici cia andũ.”
Thou makest [mortal] man to return to dust, and sayest, Return, children of men.
4 Nĩgũkorwo mĩaka ngiri harĩwe no ta mũthenya wa ira ũrĩa ũrahĩtũkire, kana ta ituanĩra rĩmwe rĩa arangĩri a ũtukũ.
For a thousand years, in thy sight, are as yesterday when it is past, and [as] a watch in the night.
5 Ũhaataga andũ, ũkameeheria, magakoma toro wa gĩkuũ; andũ mahaana ta nyeki ĩrĩa ĩringũkaga rũciinĩ:
Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are [as] a sleep: in the morning they are like grass [that] groweth up:
6 o na gũtuĩka rũciinĩ nĩĩringũkaga, hwaĩ-inĩ ĩhoohaga, ĩkooma.
In the morning it flourisheth and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down and withereth.
7 Tũniinagwo nĩ marakara maku, na tũkamakio mũno nĩ marũrũ maku.
For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy fury are we troubled.
8 Nĩũigĩte wĩhia witũ o mbere yaku, mehia maitũ marĩa mahithe ũkamoimĩria o ũtheri-inĩ hau mbere yaku.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret [sins] in the light of thy countenance.
9 Matukũ maitũ mothe maniinagwo nĩ mangʼũrĩ maku; tũninũkagia mĩaka iitũ na gũcaaya.
For all our days pass away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a [passing] thought.
10 Mũigana wa matukũ maitũ-rĩ, nĩ mĩaka mĩrongo mũgwanja, kana mĩrongo ĩnana, tũngĩkorwo tũrĩ na hinya; no rĩrĩ, mũigana wamo no thĩĩna na kĩeha, nĩgũkorwo mathiraga o narua, na ithuĩ tũgathiĩ, tũkabuĩria.
The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if, by reason of strength, they be fourscore years, yet their pride is labour and vanity, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Nũũ ũũĩ hinya wa marakara maku? Nĩgũkorwo mangʼũrĩ maku nĩ manene o ta gwĩtigĩrwo kũrĩa wagĩrĩire.
Who knoweth the power of thine anger? and thy wrath according to the fear of thee?
12 Tuonie gũtara matukũ maitũ wega, nĩgeetha tũgĩe na ngoro ya ũũgĩ.
So teach [us] to number our days, that we may acquire a wise heart.
13 Wee Jehova, hoorera! Nĩ nginya rĩ? Iguĩra ndungata ciaku tha.
Return, Jehovah: how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
14 Rũciinĩ tũhũũnagie na wendo waku ũtathiraga, nĩguo tũinage nĩ gũkena na tũcanjamũkage matukũ maitũ mothe.
Satisfy us early with thy loving-kindness; that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 Tũma tũkene matukũ maingĩ o ta marĩa ũtũnyamarĩtie, na mĩaka mĩingĩ o ta ĩrĩa tuonete thĩĩna.
Make us glad according to the days [wherein] thou hast afflicted us, according to the years [wherein] we have seen evil.
16 Ndungata ciaku irokĩonio ciĩko ciaku, naguo riiri waku wonio ciana ciao.
Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy majesty unto their sons.
17 Wega wa Mwathani Ngai witũ ũrogĩa na ithuĩ; tũma wĩra wa moko maitũ ũgaacĩre, ĩĩ-ni, kĩrũmie wĩra wa moko maitũ.
And let the beauty of Jehovah our God be upon us; and establish thou the work of our hands upon us: yea, the work of our hands, establish thou it.
