< Thaburi 55 >

1 Thaburi ya Daudi Wee Ngai, thikĩrĩria ihooya rĩakwa, ndũkaage kũigua ithaithana rĩakwa;
For the leader. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David. Listen, God, to my prayer. Don’t hide yourself from my pleading.
2 njigua na ũnjĩtĩke. Meciiria makwa nĩmathĩĩnĩtie na ndĩ mũgiĩku
Hear me, and answer; for bitter is my lament.
I am wild with the noise of the foe, with the clamour of the ungodly; for they hurl disaster upon me, and attack me with fury.
4 Ngoro yakwa ĩrĩ na ruo rũnene thĩinĩ wakwa, nganyiitwo nĩ imakania nene cia gĩkuũ.
My heart shudders within me, terrors of deaths press on me,
5 Guoya na kũinaina nĩcindigiicĩirie; hubanĩirio nĩ kĩmako kĩnene.
fear and trembling attack me, and horror wraps me round.
6 Na niĩ ngiuga atĩrĩ, “Hĩ, naarĩ korwo ndĩ na mathagu ta ndutura! Ingĩũmbũka thiĩ ngahurũke,
O for the wings of a dove: I would fly away and rest.
7 ingĩũra thiĩ kũndũ kũraya, ngaikare werũ-inĩ;
I would wander far away, find refuge in the wilderness. (Selah)
8 ingĩhiũha thiĩ handũ harĩa ingĩĩgitia, kũraihu na rũhuho rũu rũnene na kĩhuhũkanio.”
I would find myself a shelter from raging wind and tempest.
9 Wee Mwathani, andũ arĩa aaganu nĩmanyiitwo nĩ kĩrigiicano, ũhĩngĩcanie mĩario yao, nĩgũkorwo itũũra-inĩ inene nyonaga o haaro na ngũĩ.
Confuse them, Lord, upset their plans; for I see violence and strife in the city.
10 Mũthenya na ũtukũ, andũ acio aaganu macangacangaga thingo-inĩ cia itũũra rĩu; narĩo rĩiyũrĩtwo nĩ rũmena na irumi.
By day and by night they make their rounds on the city walls, while within is crime and trouble,
11 Thĩinĩ wa itũũra rĩu inene no mwanangĩko ũrĩ kuo; kwĩhĩtanĩra na kũheenania ciyũrĩte njĩra-inĩ ciarĩo.
within is ruin. Her market-place is never free of deceit and tyranny.
12 Korwo nĩ thũ ĩranuma-rĩ, no ngirĩrĩrie; korwo nĩ thũ ĩranjũkĩrĩra-rĩ, no ndĩhithe ndĩkanyone.
The taunts were not those of a foe that I could have borne; the disdain was not that of an enemy I could have shunned them:
13 No rĩrĩ, nĩwe mũndũ wa riika rĩakwa, mũthiritũ wakwa, mũrata wakwa ũrĩa twendanĩte mũno,
but it was you, my equal, my dear and familiar friend.
14 o wee twanakenanĩra tũrĩ na ngwatanĩro njega, tũgĩthiĩ hamwe na andũ arĩa angĩ nyũmba-inĩ ya Ngai.
We used to be so close, together we walked in God’s house with the crowd.
15 Gĩkuũ kĩrohubanĩria thũ ciakwa o rĩmwe; iroikũrũka mbĩrĩra irĩ muoyo, tondũ ũũru ũkoragwo ngoro-inĩ ciacio. (Sheol h7585)
May death suddenly take them, may they go down to Sheol alive, for evil lives in their homes and their hearts. (Sheol h7585)
16 No rĩrĩ, niĩ nĩ Ngai ngayagĩra, nake Jehova nĩahonokagia.
But I will call on God, the Lord will save me.
17 Hwaĩ-inĩ, na rũciinĩ, o na mĩaraho, ngayaga ndĩ mĩnyamaro-inĩ, nake nĩaiguaga mũgambo wakwa.
Evening and morning and noon I lament and moan. He will hear my voice;
18 We angũũraga kuuma mbaara-inĩ ĩrĩa ndũithagio, ngoima itagurarĩtio, o na gwakorwo nĩ andũ aingĩ mandũithagia.
though I am attacked by many he will rescue me, unharmed from the war.
19 Mũrungu ũrĩa ũtũũrĩte aikarĩire gĩtĩ kĩa ũnene nginya tene, nĩekũmaigua na amaherithie, andũ acio matagarũragĩra mĩthiĩre yao, o acio matetigagĩra Ngai.
God, who sits on his ancient throne will hear and will humble them, for they never change, they never fear God. (Selah)
20 Mũndũ ũcio tũrĩ thiritũ nake atharĩkagĩra arata ake, na agathũkia kĩrĩkanĩro gĩake.
My friend turned against me, betrayed his word.
21 Mĩario yake ĩnyorokete o ta thiagĩ, no rĩrĩ, mbaara ĩrĩ ngoro-inĩ yake; ciugo ciake ihooranagĩria gũkĩra maguta, no icio nĩ hiũ cia njora irĩ njomore.
His mouth was smoother than butter, but war filled his heart. His words were softer than oil, but sharper than swords.
22 Rekereria Jehova maũndũ marĩa magũtangaga, na nĩegũgũtiirĩrĩra; ndarĩ hĩndĩ akaareka mũndũ ũrĩa mũthingu agwe.
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken.
23 No rĩrĩ, Wee Ngai, nĩũkaharũrũkia andũ arĩa aaganu irima-inĩ rĩa ũmaramari; andũ arĩa manyootagĩra thakame na andũ a maheeni matigaakinyia nuthu ya matukũ mao. No niĩ hakwa-rĩ, Wee nĩwe ndĩĩhokete.
But you, God, will hurl them down to the deepest pit. Bloody and treacherous people will not live out half their days; but I will trust you.
